No doubt, no doubt. I have no plan on rushing anywhere as I plan on being extremely blasted from the moment I arrive in the Dam till the moment I leave!
I figure on visiting one shop during the morning, one or two in the afternoon, and one in the evening, I also have a list of museums I want to hit up, plus several casual eating places.
I also plan on spending a good deal of time chilling in Lost in Amsterdam as it's just a few minutes walk from my guesthouse and by the looks of their website it looks like a great place to have a drink and chill for awhile!
Coffeeshop strategy...
We got the 4 day version of this ticket last July .Twice (at 18 E -I see the prices have gone up a tad) ...but it was well worth it to us .We've walked the town for years , and it's still the best way to discover Amsterdam -If you're not brave enough to bike it ...but this can be a footsaver .

Let's zip over to HGF for more Silver Pearl ...hop on the 4 ....out to Andys Birthday Party in the park ...nice ...Similar to a New York Metrocard day pass ...and priced about the same ... Just don't lose it .

I have been checking out that site. They also say they offer a 168-hour (one week) pass for 29 euros - that's about $42 currently. Just not sure how much I would use it enough to make it pay? That's almost twice what a weekly pass costs here in Portland (22.50). On the other hand, I can see it raining when I'm on the other side of town and it would be nice to not have to worry about that! I'll probably decide when I get there.Epsilon wrote:We got the 4 day version of this ticket last July .Twice (at 18 E -I see the prices have gone up a tad) ...but it was well worth it to us .We've walked the town for years , and it's still the best way to discover Amsterdam -If you're not brave enough to bike it ...but this can be a footsaver .

Do those passes include transport to Haarlem or do you need to buy a separate ticket for that?

Hard to find two points that are more than 90 minutes by express train, unless one takes a "milk run" train. For those that don't know "milk run", in this example it describes a train that stops at every station between two points. Take the inter-city express to the major city nearest your destination, then hop on the local train. Too easy.DazedandConfusedinOR wrote:Thanks for the info Epsilon! I really do want to check out some of the nearby towns...probably nothing that isn't less than 90 minutes by train from the Dam as I'd like to be back in town by evening. I'll have to read up on Zutphen - sounds interesting.Epsilon wrote:As a fellow gringo , I know one of the things we enjoy on our trips to the NL is getting out and about in the country ...theres some awesome smaller towns and cities out there. Where you just go "WOW What a place . How come we can't do towns like this"... If I could point to one particular town it would be Zutphen in Gelderland Province, town of 30000 or so ...3 nice CSes ...got that medieval movie set look ...(see pics in sig if you want) ...and the local 4 star hotel can often be booked real cheap - see this sites booking link. (we got it at 39 E a night last July )...We've always driven , but think it's about an hour / half train ride from AMS ... Just a thought should you decide to stay in the NL ...If its "all about the smoke " Leeuwarden has the best CS scene we've found out of AMS , and that includes Haarlem ...
Happy planning
"..probably nothing that isn't less than 90 minutes" means that you want shops farther than 90 minutes. Triple negative, sorry, I couldn't resist.
