trip report: day one - 11/1/10

just back from a 3 and a half day trip to the mecca which is amsterdam. Was my 19th visit but my first for about a year, usually try to visit a few times each year but is getting harder as the pound continues to fall against the euro. Guess i never really appreciated how cheap it used to be.

Trip was planned a couple of months in advance with my partner in crime smokedog (think hes beaten me to posting 1st day report) managed to get cheap easyjet flights (usually go klm) and sorted out a smoking room at the siingle hotel. had looked forward to the trip for what seemed like an age, but as always it passed in a flash.

the day finally came. after an hour and a bit the plane swooped over the snow covered dutch countryside and touched town safe and sound at schipol. as usual with the minimum of fuss (take tips edinburgh airport) exited the airport and got the train to central. There are few journeys that i prefer to make than the one when you arrive (the reverse sucks a bit), the anticipation and excitiment abound....

after checking in to our hotel (check out hotel post for review- yet to post) t was time to hit our first coffee shop.

dampkring harlemstrat was the choice- it was close, has a good menu, cool industrial deco, and has plenty of seats. NYC at 9.50 per gram was my first purchase. have read posts slating the nyc here but i assure you that this was a lovely batch, great taste, smell and very nice effect. smoke dog went for tazman haze which dissapointed me no end. it was our first jay and lacked flavour, taste and any high. as i puffed at it i couldnt help but think of the pish weed we get in edinburgh. the NYC made up for t but i am suprised at the dampkring selling such poor weed- stay well clear of the taz haze unless you like wasting money. after a few smokes it was time for a good old wander round the streets to soak it up.

though id try a shroom search, didnt take long, didnt even need to ask just had to come back next day. nice

Next up was barneys lounge, a bit of a local for me from previous trips. seems to have got busier and the guy who works n the place does give a unfriendly vibe. shame. put me off returning as it is relatively expensive. got acapoco gold as it used to be my fav strain when the dampkring used to do it. was okay, thats all id say. reasonable taste, flav effect but way short of the studd dampkring used to do. probally not the same strain at all, or a poor batch?? smoke dog got crimea blue which i would not have bought as it was all tiny buds. turned out he was right to go ahead as it was as good as always. nice taste and stone. All this smoking ment munchies. mexican-buritos-very nice

after dinner came rusland. really like this shop, nice chilled out vibe, really good layout and brilliant coffee. perhaps the best i had there and amsterdam is full of great coffee. i didnt buy (i like the shop not the gear) but smoke dog got some isolator which was decent. continued to smoke my earlier purchases. i would highly recomend this shop as a place to visit but probally not buy. a bit more of a wander came next.

last up for the night was homegrown fantasy. if word is true it wont be there for much longer. real shame. one of the best shops. had heard alot about the cheese so 1g for 12.50 was purchased. great look, smell cheese taste and super high. good reviews are justified in jsmokers humble opinion. smoke dog got silver pearl also very nice- perhaps the nicest looking bud iv ever seen. after a few pure reefers it was time to head back to the hotel, smoke a few more and roll on tomorrow.......

would love to tell you where got the shrooms, but cant. sorry iv been 19 times so i had a good idea where to look. they are still about but not easy to get. my advice is not to go round the smartshops asking for them. they will only offer you truffels.

end of march sadly according to lady who works there. landlord wont renew lease and licience cant be moved location. shame. dam shame. can onlyt hope she was talking shit but dont really see why she would. heard her tell several others too.
