Master Card/Cirrus ATM Locations

Another dark, dreary, cold day here in the Great White North. Great time to stay indoors and research my trip.

After reading a lot of post about using ATM's instead of taking $ or exchanging $, I've decided to go the ATM route. My bank is on the Master Card/Cirrus network, and Master Card has a great ATM locator feature on their website.

Simple to use. Select Netherlands from the country menu, then enter Amsterdam as the city. Note: The results page only lists 10 hits at a time. You may have to use the drop-down menu on the results page to get to a location near your hotel or apartment. I found two ATM's within two blocks of the apartment I'm renting.

Be REAL SURE to let your bank know you will be using your ATM card in Amsterdam.
Folks that don't end up with a dead card for suspicious activity.

Just be sure to check your banks foreign ATM fees also. My bank is Chase,and they charge a 3 dollar atm fee + 3% of the transaction EACH TIME you use the atm. I actually found it cheaper to exchange my money at Lorentz Change on the Damrak than use my atm card. Here is a link for the different fees that many banks charge.

Bummer, you should use Charles Schwab. They refund all ATM fees at the end of the month (from any bank, even overseas!)

Thanks for the warning. I'm a Credit Union member, so I'm not charged anything other than a foreign ATM fee, which is $1.50 per transaction, and the exchange rate is the exact rate in place on the currency markets that day.

Commercial banks are nothing more than a rip-off with all the fees and penalties. Don't support big commercial banks that are largely responsible for the U.S. economic meltdown. Find an join a credit union:
