I must say to everyone, good answers so far.

The only thing I have to add is be careful not only of the strain or strength of weed smoked, but, of course, the amount. The easy thing with cannabis is how easy it is to regulate the dose. I'd say, 3 or 4 tokes each then wait a few minutes to see how it affects you. If you still feel fine just continue doing this until you start to feel it. Don't just chong away on a whole 1g spliff to yourself the second you land!

BTW, since everyone is mentioning Basjoe I wanted to add that they will definitely carry a good "beginner" strain. The Orange Bud would be an okay start...but I'm pretty sure they always carry either a Jamaican or Thai strain as well. You should definitely start with one of those if possible. Not only are they the most mild way to ease yourself in to 'dam gear but they're extremely affordable, too...I think Basjoe's was charging €4 a gram or something very close to it.

When people say 'ease in' does that mean for my 3 day stay i should just stick to these weaker strains for the whole duration .Will i likely regret it if i try anything more interesting a day or so later ?

IMHO Start with one of the weaker strains and see how you go and play it by ear. Dont mix it with alcohol and make sure you've eaten too as weed messes with your blood/sugar levels

i think the intention is for you to start slow on day 1 and see how stoned/high/buzzed you feel, if it feels cool, then think about a gram of something a little stronger, but start with just a few puffs and then see how stoned/high/buzzed you feel, if it still feels cool, then have a few more puffs

you and only you will know what is ok and what is too much

no one wants to see you have too much too soon, that would ruin what should be a fantastic 3 days in amsterdam

enjoy your stay ...
