The "gentleman" is named Gene Wrigglesworth. He's an entrenched dinosaur who's been in power for decades. I'll certainly remember these comments when the next election comes 'round.

LAW ENFORCEMENT IN MICHIGAN IGNORING THE LAW

Post by drayman86 »

While there's certain to be confusion and an adjustment period when medical marijuana laws are passed in a state, the blatant statements by Roseville Michigan Deputy Police Chief Jame Berlin are disgusting.

Here's the deal: under Michigan LAW, if a person applies for a medical marijuana permit/license/card and does NOT receive a rejection notification letter within 20 days of filing the application, then the application is deemed to be valid and the application THEN serves as the permit/card until the actual permit/card is received.

This is very, very, very clear as stated in the law.

However, Mr. Berlin chooses to ignore the law:

"If they don't have a card and they're in possession of marijuana, they're coming to jail," Roseville Deputy Chief James Berlin said. "And if they applied for the card, we'll let the judge decide" if a law was broken.

MANY MICHIGAN PHYSICIANS UNWILLING TO CERTIFY PATIENTS

Post by drayman86 »

Seems as though many of the docs in Michigan are either unwilling to or are unfamiliar with how to certify a patient for medical marijuana use.

Claims are made by the docs that they aren't familiar with the pharmacology of cannabis, resulting in their inability to regulate the dose. Administering any type of uniform/consistent dose would also be challenge due to the variety of strains and available and the associated THC levels of the strains.

MICHIGAN DOCS AND MEDICAL POT

OK, I can understand their concerns, however the hazards of too high a dose is at worst pulling a "whitey" and maybe vomiting, however this pretty much disinclines one to continue use.

Don't know of any deaths caused by too much cannabis, however I'm certain there's a lethal ingested dose providing one doesn't vomit.

Just instruct the patients to seek advice on strains and dosage from other experienced patients, don't drive or operate machinery blah blah blah, and that's about it.

Michigan Medical Marijuana Demand Booming

Post by drayman86 »

The demand in Michigan for medical marijuana continues to soar.

To date, the Michigan Department of Community Health has already approved over 13,000 patients and also permitted over 5,500 caregivers who grow the meds for the patients. Each caregiver can grow up to 12 plants per patient for a maximum number of 5 patients.

The department currently received over 1,000 applications a week. With a $100 application fee, this means that over $1,300,000 has thus far been collected, however there are only TWO full time employees and two temporary employees to process the applications, resulting in a three month backlog to issue the permits.

Michigan law requires approval or denial of an application within 20 days of receipt.

ZONING LAWS FOR DISPENSARIES

Post by drayman86 »

At least one city in Michigan, the state capital of Lansing, is considering zoning restrictions of dispensaries. It essentially means that dispensaries would have to operate in designated commercial zones.
