Lansing, my old stomping grounds. Well East Lansing more accurately. I wonder if my Colorado MMJ info will work in MI. Last summer when I was back home, all I could get was schawg. This really sucked because I had a migraine the first day and spent most of the day vomiting. Some good weed would've helped with the nausea.

That's a great question.

I did a read of the Michigan law, and can find nothing about Michigan recognizing or otherwise honoring another state's medical cannabis permit.

Rather a "Grey Area", eh?

There's lots and lots of those in the Michigan Medical Marijuana Act, and it's precisely the way we like it. 8)

Dispensaries aren't specifically allowed or prohibited, yet here we are.

Grower's cooperatives aren't addressed either, yet here we are.

I'll ask my guys the next time I get meds about recognizing another state's card.

MOVES TO REGULATE DISPENSARIES IN MICHIGAN

Major market newspapers have been struggling; an increasing alternative to local news is the free or underground/alternative press. In Detroit, it's the M E T R O T I M E S .

In Lansing it's the C I T Y P U L S E. ... A great alternative newspaper that does the real journalism now that most big-market print media has gone through large scale-backs of size, content, and home delivery.

Here's a great piece from this week's City Pulse on the issue of medical marijuana dispensaries in Lansing:

For any Michigan peeps not having their certificate, there is a clinic for those who have qualified but not registered. It's at Gone Wired Cafe in Lansing. Pretty cool coffeeshop, I've been there. Sunday May 16 from 9:00 - 18:00. Just thought I'd pass this around.

More information on this issue.

Apparently, the owner of the "smoking club" had some serious weight at his home....about 90 lbs. (50 kilos).

If proven in court, this is clearly outside of the allowed maximum of 2.5 ounces (about 70 grams) that a patient can possess.

Caregivers (growers) can possess 2.5 ounces for every patient they grow for, and a caregiver can retain and grow for a maximum of five patients, including themselves if the caregiver is a patient, too. Up to 12 plants are allowed per patient.

Medical Marijuana Smokers Club Re-opens

Talk about pushing the envelope, however this is what may be needed to start a successful ballot initiative like the Great State of California has on the ballot this November.

Here is the current collection of Michigan Medical Cannabis pieces from the local newspaper, The Lansing State Journal.

Like a lot of newspapers in the states, especially in the smaller markets like Lansing, the reporting is bush-league at best due to staffing and budget cuts, however the information is here.

MICHIGAN MEDICAL CANNABIS INFORMATION ARTICLES.

A recent wrongful termination lawsuit was filed in Calhoun County Court in Michigan against Wal Mart for firing an employee who tested positive for cannabis. This employee was legally permitted to use cannabis under the Michigan Medical Marihuana law.

This is the test case we've been looking for, and I'll be certain to keep the information in this thread current.

Thanks for viewing.

Michigan's Ingham County Sheriff and County Prosecutor have a history of antagonism toward the current law and persecution of patients and caregivers.

A Michigan man is proposing converting a 23,000 square foot warehouse in Royal Oak, Michigan, into a commercial medical cannabis growing facility. Space would be rented to caregivers who are growing cannabis for medical purposes.

Drayman, thank you for taking the time keeping us in the less developed world up to speed with the go-ahead, will-do attitude of the Michigan folks. It seems to me one of the biggest tasks is creating a framework to get from total prohibition to something legal and managable for M.M. as a lots of cracks soon appear, ie. testing pos at work, driving etc. As for recreational use then the same problems will occur only more so. I mean the Amsterdam model is probably not the best to follow, as the scene there developed in a particular way and at a time which couldn't be replicated, and still has a grey area regarding scourcing and distribution.
Any way thanks again for a very informative thread :) .

Peace Spider.

Appreciate the comments spider.

It's a bit exciting, really, to be on the cutting edge of what's happening in Michigan with the overall cannabis scene. Medical cannabis has simply exploded on the state in the past two years. As of today's date there are:

# 37,924 original and renewal applications received since April 6, 2009.
# 20,548 patient registrations issued.
# 8,905 caregiver registrations issued.

And that's revenue for the cash-strapped state, too, about $4,000,000 in permitting fees. Since there's at least a three month backlog to approve new or renewal applications, the millions are NOT being spent on staffing increases.

We'll keep pushing the envelope here in Michigan. The first test case described above will hopefully go our way. In addition, there's a story I'm looking for to post. The Michigan Supreme Court recently ruled that the metabolite of cannabis is NOT considered a controlled substance in our state. That's HUGE as well; if it's not illegal, how can I be fired for testing positive for it?

Keep checking back for more current information on Michigan Medical Cannabis, and thanks for the views.
