Wednesday Jan. 13th/'10
"Woke-up, got out of bed, dragged a comb across my head"....Beatles.
Got up around 9:30ish, no rush today, we don't leave until 7:15pm and I don't have anything to do, other than a quick SSS, until I go to the airport at 3:30pm. LittleD called and he is getting excited now that he has finally received his passport and the fact that he had not been on a plane in some 30 odd years. We decide to meet at the airport at 3:00pm, LittleD has a 1-2 hr. drive into and across the city, what with all the added security we are expecting and our combined anticipation, getting there 4 hrs. early doesn't seem out of line. Besides, any spare time can be spent supping over-priced beers in the airport bars.
We're off to the airport. Puff the last couple on the way there, hook-up with LittleD....hadn't seen him for almost 2 years....easy check-in at the machines, the bags are deposited with Air France and we're off for our first beers. Now it's have a couple of beers and then outside for a cigarette or two and back for a beer....this goes on for 2 hours or so. I'll be sleeping on this flight for sure.
Famous last words. They served us a meal and then I could not get to sleep, seems I should have had a couple more of those over-priced beers earlier, so I ordered a couple of over-priced in flight drinks and they worked fine. Seven and a half hours later we land in Paris. An hour of confusion after we land at CDG stretches into two hours of confusion and delays. Bad signage and no visible information or assistance. KLM from here to Amsterdam, now I can see the ground below and as we near Amsterdam and the ground starts coming up to meet us, I'm about to burst with excitement. We land around noon, breeze through customs and security and grab a shuttle to the hotel....I don't have wheels on my bags and I'm not going to lug them around on the train and then hump them down Damrak from the station to Dam Square, so the extra 10 or so euros is well spent for me.
It's Thursday Jan 14th. at what feels like 6:00am for us.
We arrive at Hotel Amsterdam - De Roode Leeuw, previously mentioned in one of Stuart1976's post's I believe as the place where the old folks he drove there with stayed? Anyway....our room won't be ready until 3:00pm so, we stash the bags there turn around and head out the door.

Now, remember that I booked this trip four and a half months ago and had been doing research and looking at maps since then. I knew where I wanted to go, what I wanted when I got there and how to get there. Out the door bear right across Dam Square, staying to the left of the monument, onto Dam at the top of Nes, left, head shop on the right...nip in, get a nice metal grinder and papers, walk along Dam to the third canal turn right down a block and look for the blue sign....I'm sure quite a few of you know the door handle that was in my hand.....Basjoe's.

The first coffeeshop!!! Walk in (two patrons seated in the booths on the right), up to the counter, ask if the man (with the knotted dread) behind said counter is James...knowing full well that this has to be the man I have read so much about here on ACD, he affirms my suspicions and I introduce myself and I tell him that I have read about him here on ACD in many reports, the latest being the exceptionally fine B'Day Adventure report by luvtick ...I get a fist bump from James....HOW COOL IS THAT FOR JUST LANDING. I even know what I want for my first smoke, 2grs. of Bas Special. LittleD grabs a couple of g's of Royal Hash, of course we get coffee's also and we settle at the table down front by the window....newbies want to look out the window and be amazed. Which is not hard at this point. The architecture, the bikes, the canals, the women (lots of nice looking women in this town, so far), the bikes. I'm sitting in the window at Basjoe's about to roll my first joint. I'm not what one would call a connoisseur of pot, I know that this pot smelt great and it felt sticky as I removed some from the bag and put it in my new grinder. By now I'm gagging for a joint. LittleD is crumbling hash at a furious pace. Just as I'm lighting this memorable first joint...big cloud of smoke around my head and I'm well into my second draw...two cops walk past the window, both turn and look directly at me. Well, without any conscious thought from me, my arm moves and I hid the joint under the table...much to the delight of the aforementioned two patrons. I explain how this was not a conscious act and the one fella tells me "it's alright, they were parking wardens anyway". Busted a gut. Finished the rest rest of the joint peacefully....tasted great and the buzz was a creeper....a few more of James' fine coffee's and we puffed LittleD's hasher. Nice and high after that. I ask if I may take a photo inside the shop, not to include anybody other than LittleD and I, not only is it cool with everyone but James strolls out from behind the counter and I have a photo of him and I together. We roll a mix of the two, say our goodbyes....with promises of returning....and head out. It's about 2:30pm, we're both fairly high, we have a plan and we have the ACD Coffeeshop map. Up the canal, through the RLD, hang a left, cross Damrak and it's on the left. 420/Kuil. Well it might be there but, we certainly weren't. Turned a street to soon we discover, wonder if that mixed joint we discreetly puffed on the way was any help? Found it.

Two lovely looking ladies were serving coffee and bud and both turned out to be nice. I amble to the bud bar and get 2grs Blueberry and LittleD gets 2grs of 420 Kush, a couple of coffees, ask the tobacco policy and we are rolling joints in 420.... The Blueberry was very sweet smelling and I was exceptionally buzzed when it was butted out in the ashtray. We puffed one of the Kush but, I couldn't tell you what it was like...just that I was clued to the chair for a while. More coffees, roll a mix of the BB and Kush and we're off. A couple of lefts, half a joint and I believe I can smell the cheese. We walk into HGF. Good tunes, don't what was on, just says 'good tunes' in notes. Friendly bud tender. We get 2grs Cheese, 1gr Sour Diesel, 2grs Silver Pearl and 1gr Jack between LittleD and I. The place is almost empty at this time and we grab hot chocolates and dig into our new purchases. I rolled a large pure cheese (on the recommendation of Stuart1976, nice one Stuart) and have no notes after that point. LittleD says we puffed two more, one of the Silver Pearl and one Jack. I do not remember leaving HGF but do remember the walk, which took us to Kadinsky's where we got 1gr Bubble gum and 2grs Moroc Brown. Friendly bud tender but tiny place. Puffed one of the hash and headed back to the hotel, which was just around the corner, to check-in.

Had a nap.

I'll leave it there for now, this is getting really long.

This is good, very good stuff to read :) Keep on writing, can't wait for more! What a great way to start your journey, James must be one hell of a fella, should he be added to Amsterdam tourist guides as well? :)

Peace, good work!

Thanks Stuart, no I didn't use the toilet, now that I think of it I must have needed one by then what with the vast amount of coffee I had consumed.
P.S. Sorry about the giant photo, I'll work on that for later.

Thanks for all the good reviews.

The Remainder of Day 1

Don't know what time it was when I fell asleep but, it was 6:35pm when I awoke to flashing lights and LittleD muttering away about the stupid electrical system. It's seems that when he turned on the kettle half the lights in the room went out. No coffee, shit!! A fast shower, roll up a few fatties of various fine blends and we are on the hunt for food. But, we decide, on the stairs coming down from the room, that maybe a swift half or two might just sharpen our appetites, not before telling the front desk about the problem with the kettle....they promise to fix it right away. So it's out the door, across the square and straight down Nes. Man, one has to love Google, I knew so much of the lay-out around our hotel that we had walked almost directly to all of destinations, so far.

We must have still been buzzed from our afternoon rampage to have thought that pints of beer in stomachs that had not seen food since breakfast on Air France, somewhere over the Atlantic, was a good idea. So, up to the bar we stroll, the tender asks what we want....and we have no idea what beer to drink, I remember a thread on ACD regarding what does one drink while smoking and Leffe pops to mind. I don't know how to say it so, I spell it to the barman.....he chuckles and stands two pints on the bar. Newbies. I enquire if the bartender is known as DC on ACD and find he is not. Oh well, I'll have to come back again to introduce myself. As we seat ourselves at the bar and fire up one of the pre-rolls we have, I think that having to come back is going to be a good thing....this place is great.

The swift half turned into I don't know how many.....as it often does....I know we puffed the four mixed joints we rolled in the room and had both picked bags out of our coats and put the grinder to work. Now, you must understand that I am pushing 60 here, 59 next April, so I don't drink like I used to, and 8 or 9 pints of Leffe, copious amounts of hash and pot with an empty gut and I'm getting fucking loaded. Best be getting some food and soon so, we roll a couple for the walk and we're off. Well it turns out to be almost mid-night so, with much complaining a muttering, we enter MacD's. I have spent 1000's of $$$, half a day traveling across an ocean to a city I have dreamt about visiting and I'm standing in MacD's drunk....fuck!!!, I could do this at home. We gag back some tasteless crap and head out for a walk and a puff....it's to the RLD that we seem to be wandering. The first group of window ladies we came across are, we both agree, not what we consider attractive...I believe the comment was made that this group was in fact a 'herd'. We strolled around the area for some time....there are many very attractive and exotic young ladies in this trade. Neither of us partake.

We are out of pre-rolls so a stop seems to be in order and we happen across Stone's Corner. We grab a gram each of AK47, OG Kush and Chocolate, squat at the bar with a couple of coffees and break out the grinder. Couldn't tell you what anything tasted, smelt or even looked like. I was wobbling around on my stool, LittleD thought I was going to fall off at one point. I know the music was terrible....some form of hip-hop, dance stuff that just went boom, boom, boom in my ear.....we left soon after puffing one and skinning a couple for the waddle back to the hotel. We are both drunk and very high and turn the wrong way coming out of Stone's and wander deeper into the RLD. We happen across the aforementioned 'Herd' and are saved, we just have to remember to turn onto the street with the 'Herd' and we are heading towards the hotel. Hope the girls keep the same windows or we're screwed.

Back at the hotel, we empty out our pockets and are astounded at the number of baggies we have from our first half day in A'Dam.

Drunk, very high and exhausted I collapse onto the bed and am done for the day.

Hello,

Thanks for the encouragements and interest. I got off work a couple of hours early today so found the time to pull the notes together for day two.

Friday Jan. 15th.
We are awakened by the gentle yet persistent tapping of the cleaning staff on the door. Receiving no reply, the lady opens the door and peeks into the room. As LittleD rises to bellow his standard "F...OFF" I jump in with a 'Could you come back later', no sense pissing-off anyone. I get up still a little high and a bit hung-over. We had not even unpacked yesterday so now I have to rummage through my bags and dig out my bathroom kit. Glad I thought ahead and put a bottle of aspirin in there. I hit the shower and come out to LittleD flashing the lights and threatening the kettle with instant destruction if it keeps refusing to boil. While he showers and such I dress, unpack and start flashing the lights myself for a bit, all the while dying for a coffee, LittleD exits the bathroom to find me about to throw the kettle out the window and against the adjacent wall. No Fu*king coffee, can't puff fu*king joints in the room and I'm fu*king dying. Great start to our first morning in A'Dam. By the time I down a couple of those little bottles of Bailey's and skin up half a dozen joints LittleD has dressed himself and downed a little bottle of Jack, or two. We load up on baggies and stash the remainder in the safe with our extra cash and passport copies.

The days pocket stashes.
I complain a little more insistently about the electrical nightmare in our room as we pass the front desk and am told, once again, that it will be solved. I want coffee, then more coffee and then breakfast. But it's almost 1:00pm....I have another ACD flash and remember reading somewhere that Popeye's serves breaky until 2:00pm. Popeye's is a good walk from the Dam Square area, but we have our trusty ACD map....it's just walk west and turn right at the second canal. Nice walk, puffed one each along the way and found it no problems.
I like Popeye's. It's nice and open with lots of light from the front and side windows. We order full English for 8e. per. and look at the pot/hash menu, I get a couple of grs of Vanilla Kush and LittleD got 2 gr of some hash I didn't write down. For making a purchase we were offered a hit from the house 'Peace Pipe', I passed but LittleD was on it like ugly on an ape. The owner had to put a bit more of his pot in before LittleD handed him back the toker. I did notice that the owner scorched the metal inhaler with his lighter when LittleD was finally done, he did this after each person had finished I observed over breaky. We seat ourselves upstairs, at the railing over looking the counter, with coffees and I put the grinder to work and roll one of the Kush, LittleD is rolling the black hash into long strings and laying it on some of the Kush....this shall be for after the food, which is nicely timed to arrive near the end of the joint. Good sized plates of eggs, bacon, sausages, beans, fried mushrooms, fried tomatoes and some greenery with toast and orange juice on the side. Another coffee or two went down with LittleD's mixed joint, we roll a couple for the road and then we're off to find the Anne Frank house, LittleD's wife having just finished re-reading the book she wanted photos, which should be easy.....walk west to the Princes canal and turn left, easy!!! The plan being to hit the tourist trap and then keep going south for a stop at Paradox....the best laid plans of mice...etc.
I mentioned earlier about how I thought there were a lot of attractive ladies walking around well, LittleD's following me as I have the map and I'm looking for the Princes something canal....but only with one eye it seems, as the other eye is roving one might say. Needless to say at this point but, we....sorry LittleD....I miss the turn (How does one miss a honking great big canal??) and we end up somewhere not even on the ACD map, in a housing estate, puffing joints like fiends, lost as fuck and laughing our asses off. I make a comment about how no wonder the Nazi's could find Anne Frank, we can't even find the house with a map.....he retorts with, 'maybe the Nazis weren't high as kites and following young girls in tight jeans around'. The laughter is almost uncontrollable after that.
We eventually find our way back to familiar ground, three and a half hours or so later, and head for the Green House where I grab 2 grs of the cup winner, Super Lemon Haze and 2 grs, again, of some un-noted hash by LittleD. The SLH smelt great and was really sticky as I put some into the trusty grinder. Well, it wasn't Super....it was really good and proved to be a bit of a creeper....it tasted great but wasn't particularly Lemony and I was already in one hell of a haze. I have nothing in my notes about this CS, the pot or the hash....I do remember that the girl serving the coffee was a cutie and very friendly and that the shop was quite large by standard. We puffed a couple of blended joints, ordered more coffees, laughed about the day thus far and rolled for the road.

Next stops:-Amnesia and Grey Area. Straight down Heren canal, on the left. Strolled right to the door, butted the roach under foot just before getting there. By now it's past 6:00pm, late start.
Amnesia and Grey Area are packed to the rafters so we take a pass, fire-up a roadie each and head east back towards Kuil/420. We grab another 2 grs of the BlueBerry and some hot chocolates and perch at the tables opposite the bar, them being the only seats unoccupied. Out with the grinder and it's not long until we have a fat one of the BB burning. I like 420, the girls working there at the time were both pleasant and helpful...the bud tender showing the stock and the drinks girl singing away as she clears cups. Good tunes also. The pattern continues, a couple of more mixed joints, a coffee/hot chocolate or two, roll a few and we're off. It's well gone 8:00pm and I need more food. Real food!! Alas, it's not be. Tonight's fare turns out to be pizza slices from some place in the RLD. Full, but unsatisfied, we turn toward Nes. Of course we puff one each on the way.
Nes is fairly full and we are forced to take station around the pool table. I enquire after DC at the bar but he proves to be elusive and I shall have to return yet again...damn. We spend a pleasant few hours sucking beers back, smoking joints and laughing. We burned all the joints we had rolled over the day and a couple more besides so, we perform the roll for the road routine and we're off.
Basjoe's, where I score 2 grs of Cheese and LittleD gets some more un-noted hash. The place is almost empty and we settled into a booth for a relaxing hour or so of splendid weed, fine hash, good coffee and great company. We roll for the road and waddle back to the hotel, pick-up some Frites with mayo. on the way and puff some combo joint that almost knocks me down on the street. We chat in the room for a while then head outside to puff the last couple of joints for the day.

A little drunk and very high I finally crash out around 3:30am.
