Thursday the 21st.
The flight departs today at 6:15pm local time. Shuttle booked for 3:45pm.
First thought....Last Day, Damn it.
We're up and moving about by 9:00. SSS, coffee/Bailey's (a few really strong ones each to finish the bottle), the packing is finished (one final search to make sure there is nothing left in pockets) we sit down to roll some of the 11 bags we have left. The grinder smoothly performs it's task and 7 empty bags....4 unknown weeds left are put into one bag....produce 5 weed/hash/tobacco mixed joints for our planned 'shopping for souvenirs' excursion this morning. I already have my shopping list so this shouldn't take too long....chocolates'-4 boxes, tee-shirts-6, A'Dam coffee/tea mugs-4, grinders-4, earrings-3 sets....I figure to be sitting in HGF by noon. LittleD has no list or idea what he is going to buy, except for DC's suggestion of something called "cow slippers". Apparently, all of DC's family have received these as gifts and he seemed to swear by them as souvenirs so, LittleD's teenaged son and daughter along with his wife "are getting fu*king cow slippers and that's it, I'm not spending my last fu*king last day shopping" as we exit the hotel to start our search it's a little after 10:00am.
Up Damrak for coffee and pastries which are consumed quickly so as to get to the first puff of the last day....good start for the day as the weed/hash/Bailey's kick in on the way to a few of the stores I needed, which I had spotted in our waddling around town. Chocolate and jewellery in particular had been checked out so these are scooped-up fairly quickly (LittleD picked-up a couple of necklaces too) and we get our second joint puffed on the way to one of the headshops we both liked. Grinders, tee-shirts and the rest of the junk....including 'cow slippers' for LittleD's family....are all purchased, returned to the hotel, packed and the bags taken to the luggage room to await the shuttle.
We make it to HGF by 12:15pm....don't bad. One gr of Cheese and coffees....can't come here without getting some Cheese....we sit a get the grinder to work on our mixed bag of left-over's whilst puffing the last of the pre-rolls from the morning. The grinder produces a large pile of multi-coloured, wonderful smelling left-over's which is mixed with a little tobacco and two nice fatties are twisted for the amble to Cafe420. It's a little after 1:00pm and it takes us about 20 minutes to stroll around, smoke those joints and make it to 420.
This is it, the last coffeeshop on the last day. We go no further, the hotel is five minutes away and we have about two hours left to smoke. We have decided to take it in turns buying grs, which we shall grind and roll into two joints. LittleD's up first so I grind the gr of Cheese which we sprinkle a little of into our joints of SSH. It's near 2:00pm, I'm fu*king fried/glued/blasted/shitfaced and some young girl who enters and joins us sitting at the bar starts talking to me....I can barely see or hear, my legs would not support me if I even had the desire to stand and my thumb and forefinger of both hands are cramped from a week of rolling and this girl wants to chat. It turns out that talking was one of the few things I could still manage so introductions are made and this chatty little girl from Chicago fills me in on her life so far. My turn and I retrieve a gr of Blueberry and coffees. The girl, Neanna I believe her name was, tells me it's her first visit to A'Dam....she has been here only an hour....and this is her first coffeeshop so I twist a big fatty of Blueberry/Cheese and pass it to her. It took a couple more coffees but that girl finished the joint with me and went and got a gr of I forget what, asked to borrow the grinder and started to twist one. 3:00pm and LittleD is grinding another gr of SSH as we pass the girls joint between the three of us. The last of the Cheese, the gr of SSH and all the fine powder from the bottom compartment of the faithful grinder is rolled into three joints....my last joint in A'Dam is to be savoured....I smell it, I dry toke it (the taste is beautiful) so I put it to the torch, it's drawn deep into my lungs, held for maybe three seconds and coughed out in a huge plume that must have gone six feet in front of me. LittleD makes comment that I must finely be full of smoke and offers to finish my joint if that is the case, between fits of laughter and coughing I assure him that I shall be alright and have enough room left to finish my joint.
Time and tide being what they are, it's now a little after 3:30 and time to go. Shit, I hope I can walk 'coz' I'm some fu*king kind of high. I rise in small increments, testing the legs in each phase and keeping one hand firmly on the bar for support. All goes well and I am soon standing fully up-right, and feeling quite proud of the fact I might add. I give the faithful, trusted grinder to Neanna with instructions to pass it on when she leaves, say our farewells and take our last walk down Damrak, laughing and bumping into each other all the way, this is possibly the only walk we took that we didn't puff a joint....to the awaiting shuttle.
Airport crap is taken care of quickly and efficiently by KLM and we head out for a cigarette or three before our 8 hour, direct flight home. Well LittleD comes through with the proverbial, flying colours when he produces two large joints that turn-out to be a great weed/hash blend that forces me to seek-out some place to sit down (must be the old age that is affecting my legs thusly as they have gone rubbery on me yet again). Most of the flight is spent napping, must be that old age again.
We land in Toronto and breeze through the crap. My favourite niece meets me at the gate and I am hustled out to the car where she has a six pack of my beer on ice and 3-1/2 grs of weed for the ride into the city. That's why she's my favourite and a fitting end to my first trip to A'Dam.
The story is complete.

I re-read my poorly written, barely legible notes (took most of a day to get over the headache) and I have counted 47 grams of weed purchased by me in the seven and a half days we were there, I imagine that LittleD's level must have been about the same as I don't have complete records of his purchases....he bought a lot of hash, as you may have noticed. We both agree that we managed to get a load of puffing done but figure that with an apartment we should be able to squeeze a few more grams in next time, what with those first thing in the morning and last thing at night smoke fests we both missed this trip.

Thank you all for taking the time to read these ramblings and for all the kind words you have expressed.

If I don't see you no more in this world, I'll meet you on the next one.
