sphinx hotel opinions????
just about to book a trip to dam (on the cheap as we're pretty skint) for 6 of us in late feb. i found a 6 bed en-suite room inc breakfast for 3 nights for £40 each at the SPHINX HOTEL. it seems a bargain but i have read so bad reviews and wanted to know if anyone had an opinion to share?[/b]
weeded and liquored
well me and my mate went here about 8 years ago. Cheap the Pictures look stunning BUT!!! its a fu_king shithole and that's me being kind. as we walked into hotel we knew it would be a dump, but thats ok its cheap so walk up the stupid stairs/ladder, need to use toilet

opened door and the toilet had gone 100% moldy floor ceiling all walls plaster just hanging onto walls, the floor was tiled and all had gone with little pools of urine. i have never seen anything like it.

all i could do was laugh. Got into room rather thin stains over the carpet wardrobe had no door and was on the verge of collapsing bed sheets were Dirty and stained. the walls were covered in dirty fingerprints everywhere was a mess of a room a true 1 star hotel

only thing not stained or damaged was the sink, but it leaked and took over 5 mins to fill up the bucket

during the night you could hear the manager banging on doors shouting no smoking in rooms i think he kicked a few people out. we just ignored him when he banged on our door. when we went to sleep we went fully clothed, couldnt risk waking up with lots of bites. so overall its a dump and i would of preferred sleeping in the gutter. hopefully its not booked mate i would suggest a 6 man room in a hostel or my fav is zeeburg camping http://www.campingzeeburg.nl/ cabins are bloody Cheap!!

I stayed in a cabin at amsterdam bos campsite in June of last year and it had heat. It was one of the 2 person cabins, was 25 euro a night without heat and 30 with heat. I thought the place was great and would stay there again. I must admit though the pictures stuart1976 put up of zeeburg in his last trip report make me want to check it out.
its only flaws are 10min tram + a 5 min walk, and they dont have toilets in the cabins. lots of ducks and other birds, goats walking around has a great feel about it. And 2 man cabin 25 euros a night (low season) its the main reason i can go to amsterdam all the time theres a bunch of pictures of zeeburg in the trip report https://www.coffeeshopdirect.com/forum/viewt ... sc&start=0
didnt see any tents last 3 times i was there. for me its a question of carrying the tent and stuff i can be bloody lazy, and the beds are comfy and warm and a plug socket for kettle or laptop a nice table and chairs. its gotta be a cabin. in mid season you can just turn up we done it twice, but its risky if wanting a cabin. the bar sells meals theres a pool table, internet everything you could need, went to hotels but after zeeburg i cant go back
theres other reviews here and lots of pictures
