It was my turn to drive to Amsterdam and on the morning of departure, I was called by a friend (who I loaned my car to the night before) and was told it had been booted. Took over six hours to sort it all out. Nothing compared to the OP, still sucked though.

As for payback, check this.
The next time you see him, have a talk. Explain to him how much he owes you, when he has to pay, and that refusal isn't an option. Make sure you have some back-up, he probably has some friends lurking and slinking about.
What this does:
1. He knows that you know he is responsible.
2. He knows that you know where he lives.
3. If he is afraid of what you can do to him, and given his current financial situation, he will be running scared until he pays (mental anguish).
4. Ruin his reputation, if he has one that is. Nobody likes a narc.
5. If all else fails, set him up and call the Rozzers. You may not get your money back, but at least you will have some satisfaction of knowing he might be someones bitch while incarcerated. Remember, better him than you.

my last trip I was flying out of Montreal in Nov. and while I was driving to Canada in my friends car the engine blow up and the car completely shit the bed an hour and half from Montreal in the middle of bumfuck Vermont, then I ended up getting a ride to the airport from a friend and arrived 20 minutes before my flight left and hadn't checked in so I had to pay 220$ to reschedule my flight for the next day. Hows that for shitty luck?

day before i left for my january 2009 trip i went to the credit union to get cash out for my trip. already had payed for my lodging there on cc and was getting my weed/food/unexpected expenses money from the cu. anyways i get there and they gave me a bunch of stuff about the amount i was taking out and said i could take it now but if i did i'd be taxed!! anyways it all worked out after about 2 hrs in there while we talked and they made calls. if they hadn't have given me the money i wouldn't have been able to go.


besides that nothing has really happened. had a 5 hr wait in chicago once and there seemed to be no ac..that sucked.


oh and on my 2008 trip united didn't load my bag so i got off and it didn't come down the belt. had to come back the next morning to pick up my bag which arrived on the flight. that was a hassle and really slowed down the start of my first full day.
