Find your hotel on this map, and go from there.

It's miles out the center: Click here.

Ask at reception for the best/quickest way into town, good luck.

I Stayed there for a few nights in 2008. It's quite a way out. Probably a good 20-25 mins on the tram. The hotel itself and my room was nice enough. My only niggle was the location. I had no problems smoking, but I blew it up the extractor in the bathroom.

is it too late to cancel and get something a little closer?

There are plenty of Hotels for the same money in the centre.

I have stayed in the annex part twice recently. It is about a 10 minute tram ride to leidsplein with tram number 2 from 'westlandgracht' whch is a 5 minute walk from the hotel.

I would explain the annex part as a portacabin next to a motorway in the middle of a dutch council estate, but the main hotel looks nice. There are lidl and Albert heijn supermarkets next to the hotel.

Yep, make sure your booking is not in the annex, its prison type accommodation.

The main 3 star hotel (not 2 star annex) has some lovely rooms and supplies an amazing breakfast. A breakfast where you are encouraged to take a bag full for lunch too!

It is out of the centre, but an easy bike ride, a lovely long walk, or quick tram hop, and hey presto!

:)
i always enjoy a laugh when i read about the HEM, stayed there a lot of times, 3 times just last year & had every type of room & i've booked again for a week in april
the annex isnt all that bad (far from being classed as a hotel) it is just a dozen or so porta cabins with dodgy positioned toilets & ifffy windows but its safe & its got a bed, smoking easy if not facing hotel entrance, not the most comfortable but we got our room for £30 for 6 days, cant complain :)
the hotel IS far better & top floor has smoking rooms (with ashtrays)
for me & pal its perfect, getting on a bit & its not noisy, safe to leave luggage & only 10 mins on tram to centre
staff are twats but cleaners are ok as they stay out of our room till the morning we're leaving if asked nicely
in a nutshell if 18-30 its not good for party atmosphere & whole place bit run down but for a place thats just to lay head & roll joints its fine
crap if going for a holiday but good if going for a smoke

Might be worth mentioning, quite a few of the rooms in the main hotel have 'internal' windows and it is well worth asking for a room with a window to the outside world. Ever so strange to be sat in your room, all stoned and confused, watching people walk by in the corridor outside your room. A cross between feeling like a goldfish and a prostitute in your red light window!
Your dead right Greenblade, makes me laugh when people talk about Hem too. Its fine and CHEAP AS CHIPS! Once you are used to the level of accommodation in the dam, you realise what a fab deal this place can be…

me and my pal johan stayed here last year, i was shitin it bcos of reviews i had read on the place .. but i must say the hotel was great we stayed in the hotel part and had a twin room was very clean , the only things i didnt like was the see throu glass that covers the shower i mean it would be gd if youre sharein with a gf or wife but i was with my pal so when one of us was in shower the other one had to face round to the wall , the other thing i didnt like was you cant smoke in the room
our room was like a room inside a room its hard to explan . other thing was that it was miles away from city center and last tram left at 12am there was a nite bus but was hard to find then stoned
