with all talk about rascism on here recently, curious as to what peoples view on this vid are, obviously the teacher shouldn't have said what he did but did he say it in a rascist way?

Neither. I would call it stupidity.
The 'N' word is one which holds great pain and meaning to a group of people. For me, its a reponsibity for all white people not to use it, after all its one word out the thousands in the English language. Is it that much of a deal.
The teacher should never of used it. I've been in that position many times, in fact one school i taught in i was Sir Snowflake. However, i would never use that word, ever. Its just shear stupidity.

this hapened years ago. always used to laugh when the teacher says "can you lend a nigga a pencil".
personally no one black or white and ESPECIALLY not a supposed authority figure/role model like a teacher. it just shouldn't be said. people will try and say theres a diff between the word that ends with an a and the one that ends with an er but its all the same to me.
not that it makes it right but seeing as i onlt left hs 7 years ago im willing to bet this kid said it first. the word was used a TON in hs when i went. but either way the teacher was in the wrong.
anyone else have really cool teachers in hs? my hs history teacher used to let my mate phillip take smoke breaks during class. my friend came in stoned out of his head once and showed the teacher a q ounce of some kind weed and the teacher said "put that shit away" and didn't even give him a referral haha. another teacher in the school always jokingly called my same friend spicolli haha.

There was a kid i taught, i referred to him as Space Cowboy. Gave him the song on a CD when he left. Its only they he got the joke i think.

I voted no,in all fairness it wasn't spoken in a racist way.more like an old man trying to be cool you can bet your arse that the kid said it first and i reckon not just once either.
I totally agree that he shouldn't have said it at all but 10 days without pay seems a bit excessive to me.

It all depends on who you want to believe I guess. The student claims that the teacher said "sit down nigger." The teacher claims he used the word nigga in a joking manner. Personally I think the teacher was trying to be cool using nigga, but the student misinterprated him and thought he was calling him a nigger. Regardless, nigga is a term used amongst friends and is not a term a teacher should ever use in a classroom.

Bad all around. Sadly, the white teacher knew better. A black teacher may have gotten away with it. Food for thought.
The teacher explained clearly that he understood the literal nuance as it refers to the usage of "nigga". This word obviously is an African American euphemism, and the meaning and intent for this word is one of endearment or familiarity, albeit based on a racial slur. So even if the intent was one of familiarity, the kid didn't/doesn't consider the teacher to be one of his niggas.
Ebonics come back to haunt?
Who would've thunk? ''
Peace.

I can't view the above video here but I was reminded of this episode of Louis Theroux's Weird Weekends when it was repeated on the tv the other night. It's more than 10 years old but this seems like an apt thread to share.

Parts of this utterly disgust me. The way I see it is life's full of c*nts, being a c*nt is irrespective of skin tone. You're judged on your own merits, not on those handed to you by default.
The chappy who said "we'll see you in captivity" had me absolutely furious and if the world really did work on an 'eye for an eye' basis then we'd all be blind.
I guess we don't do racism in the UK like the way they do accross the pond 'cause some parts of that episode had my jaw hit the floor. In Scotland we don't really have any kind of racial tension - we'd give anybody a warm welcome (it's just each other we want to fight with

)
