Can somebody recommend coffeeshops in amsterdam or haarlem that play house music or drum and bass? also which coffeeshops play trance (so I can avoid going there).
Actually it would be good to have a list of coffeeshops according to the music they play.

Baba plays a lot of trance and other techno.
Hill St Blues further along the street plays a fair bit of DnB. Not heard much, if any, house in the c/s i've visited.

I've found its more about the Tender on the day's choice in tunes rather than the coffeeshop itself.
For instance, Homegrown Fantasy were playing Led Zepplin one day, then Gangstarr the next.
I enjoyed an early morning Wake and Bake in Hunters, and they were playing Classic Lou Reed.
Or go to Mellow Yellow, with a handfull of coins, and ram the Jukebox

Bulldog, can't remember which one, its on the Oudezjds Voorburgwal. The one with the wooden seats with the 'wookey hole' atmosphere, fairly small place. About 10pm the place seemed to pickup a pulse.
Was there a couple of months ago and the guy behind the bar had some brilliant hip-hop / drum & bass / and smooth dub-step playing.
In-fact someone there asked for the CD details and it turned out to be his own music.

One that rarely gets mentioned is Coffee Shop 36 just up from hill street blues. They have a huge collection, mostly varying styles of trance. But its one of my fav places to sit and look out over the canal. Nice sort of Goa trance early in the day and get a bit harder as the day goes on. Huge collection of CDs in there. Sounds is very good too. I always find i really get into the music after smoking a few in there, really good music for smoking too if you like that sort of music.

Most definitely.
Only stumbled in there for internet usage but the setup is great. Dark, gloomy but chilled out and not as crowded as Hill Street Blues seemed to get, with the same canal view to boot. Don't remember the music much but the vibe was cool in 36 and look forward to smoking some killer buds I probably bought elsewhere in there in a few months.

It was the first coffee shop i ever went to as my friends had been to the dam before me and had been at coffee shop 36 and loved the music. And as i do too they took me there first. Ive been there on every visit to the dam. Theres always a decent amount of people in there which is wy im surprised its rarely mentioned on here. ASAIR the weed in there was pretty decent too. Nice milkshakes and friendly staff too.
