REGGAE COFFEESHOPS
I love listening to some nice reggae music while getting high. There is a lot of reggae themed coffeeshops in the dam but not all of them have quality products and good music/vibes.
My favourites:
Basjoe quality products. the friendly rasta who owns this place plays some cool tunes different styles jazz, dub, reggae.
Easy Times used to be a favorite looking forward to see the changes.
RastaBaby Comfy seating, friendly staff.
Double Reggae used to be cool to go there and play pool and drink beers. Is it still open?
Fake:
Dread rock cafe. well where to start? Low quality cannabis, MTV music, unfriendly staff etc
CS that i havent been to for a long time or never visited:
Black Star
Oude Kerk
Atlantis
Old Amsterdam
Free Adam
What is your favorite reggae themed coffeshop in the dam??

Whilst Paradise coffeeshop (off Dam square) may have a big pic of Bob Marley on the wall- avoid at all costs! This place is truly shocking, gives coffeeshops a bad name, Reggae Reggae is rightly themed however underweight pre-packed bags put me off the place completely
So that's the bad, the good have already been listed in the posts above.

Oude Kerk has been called the Bushman for the past 5 or so years and it got done up with the new name. I visited the Oude Kerk many years ago and a review on the main site is still there. However the place looks more neat and tidy now...and less 'seedy' as i put it in the review...although as i also said, this is what i actually really liked about the original place.
I have not been to the Easy Times since it has also been done up...but before that i would have classed this as my favourite Reggae themed coffeeshop.
And Black Star has already been described as more African, i only went in with a friend to fly and buy on a walk to a hotel once...it didn't come across as the most friendly place, had ok hash though.
I have yet to try Rasta Baby, a place i have heard mixed reviews on...but i wouldn't mind at least visiting the place once.

Lion King, here's a link that might help
www.rootsmusic.nl
info on shops like Easy Times seems a bit dated, but overall site might be of interest. I go along with what HB said about Bushman, music was heavy whenever I passed it on my last trip. Can't speak for the weed personally. Rasta Baby is safe as well. Last time I went to Atlantis, both music and weed was good, but that back in summer 2008 though. Stay away from Black Star though, place was renk.

cool link, cheers. So is Atlantis a reggae styled shop too then? Might like to try a reggae shop or two sometime
I would love to find some Ska/Rocksteady nights in Amsterdam as opposed to dancehall or ragga or the like.
Would also be interested in soul, funk, r&b or 60's garage nights, something for me to research before the next trip.

List of places i plan to visit:
Atlantis
Bagheera
Basjoe
Brasil Bar
Bushman/Oude Kerk
cafe Caprice
Old Amsterdam
Easy Times
RastaBaby
Gigs Im going to:
Hepcat (US ska) melkweg
Ziggi And The Renaissance Band (NL) melkweg.
Seen Ziggi at Roskilde Festival was cool also wanna see him at 'home'.
Rasta Love (soundsystem) at Buurtboerderij Westerpark. Dont know much about the soundsystem or the venue. Its mentioned on http://www.irielion.com/irie/holland/amsterdam.html
