Yeah shame really as I've read a few people think Amsterdam was actually like that, I'm pretty sure none of the scenes were filmed in the Dam as well.

Wow, you just watched it last night? I love that movie. Not sure about the beginning, but 95% of the film was shot in the Czech Republic.

Although it was just a movie, I felt like there (were) are places where something like that could happen. I remember years ago walking in a not so nice part of Marseilles, and being followed by a group of young kids who were very similar to the Bubble Gum Gang in Hostel. It was very discomforting.

Anyway, hope you enjoyed the movie. pretty gory but worth watching in my opinion.

Hostel really did kind of mess it up for Amsterdam. I must've had about 5 people make some sort of corny Hostel joke about the fact that I'm visiting the 'Dam, warning me to look out for torture chambers & grim reapers and all types of shit.

On the special features on the Blu-Ray, it shows how a lot of the interior shots set in Amsterdam (the sex parlour, nightclub etc.) took place on a sound stage in the US. The rest of the film was shot in and around Prague and smaller cities in the Czech Republic.

We have Deuce Bigalow: European Gigalo for that...

...pity we have to watch that film to see the gorgeous city that is Amsterdam!

I don't see the problem with the film at all.

Coffeeshops with tourists - check

Red light kamers - check

Clubs with tourists acting up and getting thrown out - check

It's not like they were tying to define Dam as consisting of only those 3 things.

I actually liked the film itself (hostel 2 sucked big time).

For me the story melts into the backdrop of canals and bridges.
FFS they went so far as to even use proper AT5 anchors for the tv news shots, that and the endless juicy location shots makes DB EG one of the better films featuring Am'dam in my book.
