the hunt for old-school hash

Been in dam for about 36 hours now and the search for old-school hash, or maybe just memories. Who knows? A bit tricky to write on the computer though, after some breakfast pipe of Pollen Nepal (€10/g) from Katsu. So we take it from the beginning.

Day 1. Feb 21, 2010.
The SAS plane from Copenhagen lands at schedule at Schiphol airport. I know there will be a bus 197 leaving the Schiphol Plaza at 20.12. I slow walk and I am at the bus stop 10 minutes in advance. Smoke a cigarette to calm down. Been planning this trip for weeks now and I am a bit anxious, what to find. Done my background research and got som advice, where to go. The bus is on time and a quarter to nine I can walk into Rookies coffee shop and get my room key. It is the same room as last years Queens Day travel.

Five minutes past nine I am firing up my pipe with some Super Maroc (€11.00/g) from Rookies. It is very hard but softens with heat and is fairly easy to mix in with smoking “tobacco”. Have not been smoking in 7 weeks, so I take it easy and let the first buzz arrive before smoking more. After about an hour I had to have something to eat and after a quick burger I “happened” to walk past Rokerij and walked in after politely been told in the door to take my hat off. I bought a gram of their Nepal Cream (€9.00/g). Back at the hotel at 22.30 and smoked the rest of what was in the pipe.

At Rookies I also bought their “smoke mix”. I have always mixed my hash with tobacco and almost never smoked it pure so I wanted to try the tobaccofree version. The smoke mix, whatever it is, is working fine. No flavor to talk about and it burns fine.

When the pipe was empty and half of the maroc was gone iot was time to go to the black hash from Nepal. The Super Maroc gave a nice buzz, rather clear head, even if the menue said it should give a hevy stone. The buzz stayed in the head and did not effect my body that much.
Taste was typical maroc. For me kind of grassy, dry and with a real “hash smell”. Good starter.

The Nepal Cream from Rokerij mixed nice with the bacco and had a more oily and very peppery taste but not a big “hash smell”. Should stone me, but actuallydid not. I smoked almost all of the gram during two hours and I felt fine. But, not perfect! Yet!

That concludes day one. I get back with more about yesterday later. Now I want to go “shopping”. Yesterday I bought 5 hashes.

Stories about lovely, lovely hash. I'm licking my lips in anticipation..

Also, I'm not sure if you're limiting your quest to traditional hashes, but you may wish to enlarge your sample to include ice-o-lator types if you're looking for dat ol' school thump.

With me, hash is all about flavor and not potency, so I'm not an authority on ice hashes. Since you mentioned the Pollen Nepal however, I can suggest another from Katsu: the Crystal Clear. It won a Cannabis Cup ages ago and is one of the earliest examples of the form. Not the strongest by far, but affordable at ~10E for 0.4g. Others on the board seem fond of the Terminator nederhsah found at Basjoes and I've heard good things about Barney's Royal Jelly. Compared to the Crystal Clear however, the latter two are quite pricey at around EUR50+ per gram.

Anyway, carry on!

Day 2.

Started out nicely with the breakfast at the hotel, went up to the tourist office to by me a three-day tram ticket. Unfortunately I had to go to the main ticket office at the CS to buy that card, so I took the tram up there. Now I had my card and did not have to walk all the time.

First trip is with tram 24 down to Albert Cuypstraat and a visit to de Graal. I had seen the picture from “Twichaldinho's January 2010 Trip” of the White Gold and had to taste it. It was €15/g and you can buy even as little as 1/3 of a gram. Good when you are alone and want to taste a lot of different strains. Very nice shop to spend som time in comfortable chairs. Smoked some gold (nice headstone but clear) and went further on with my shopping list.

Walked back the Albert Cuypstraat and throught the market and turned first to the right. A block down and Katsu is on your right hand. Had been recommended their Pollen Nepal (€10/g and the Nepal Ice (€10/0.7g). Bought both of them and continued my walk towards south. After further a few blocks, the street widens and on this square, Van Der Helstplein, to the right, there is coffee shop Papillon.

I asked for the Nepal Cream (€8.00/g) since Kermit recommended it. I am smoking it right now and it is working out to be a nice head stone, but not too strong. Promising so far. I did not stay to smoke in this shop, what more looks like a modern wine bar. But looked comfortable and I sure can sit down there some other time.

Hunger!! And I took the tram up to Muntzplein, to find the Burger Bar. A very nice place with fresh ingredients in the burgers. You order your own variety and they taste lovely. The only bad thing to say is that they can use more salt and pepper on the meat. Next is to find Stix and it is raining a lot. It has been raining all day and you can take that if it is not too much.

So a walk a bit back and forth, and finally I found this tiny coffeeshop. Two persons in the shop. The female budtender and another guest. I came here for the Nepalese Tempel Balls (€13.50) and got a piece for €17. Very soft and pliable. While waiting for the coffee I prepared my pipe with the NTB. The effect was there and now I was getting more stoned, but still clear in my head and the rest of my body. I nice little shop, Stix, but I don’t think you sit there for a long time though, if you want to be for yourself.

When I came out of the shop it was pouring down and I decided to go back to the hotel for a while. At least to dry up a little. And there I stayed!!

After a while I tasted the Nepal Ice from Katsu, but it did not take me any further than the NTB did. I think I was kind of filled up. On that evening I also finished the Super Maroc and in the end I just had a big headache.

Did I find the old-school on this day? No not exactly, but I felt fine and happy with the day.

Now the Nepal Cream from Papillon have decide that I am not going to be able to write in a while. See u later!

Thank for your all suggestions. I need to stay longer the next time, but on the other hand there are a lot of good hashes in this tread, for those who seek.

Day 3
Traditional breakfast and a book. Isn’t it nice to go to a hotel breakfast, take your time with the breakfast and reading a book. No hurry, no worries about the day. It will come and what happens, what happens.

As you read in the first part the day started with the breakfast pipe of Pollen Nepal from Katsu. I nice comfortable head stone that grew bigger that morning. After reporting to ACD I went out for todays shopping. During my both stays in Amsterdam last year I had decided to try Super Silver Haze and Cheese. But in the end I had always bought too much to buy them on those trips. Now I wanted to be sure.

Took the tram to find Homegrown Fantasy. It’s along tram route 1 and 5 so it was no problem. Went into the coffee shop and asked for the Cheese (12.50/g). The budtender was nearly out of it, but managed to get a gram out of the box. Bought a cappucino and continued on my book. While smoking my pipe the budtender politely asked if I had tobacco in my pipe. I said no and it was fine. So, obviously you are not expected to smoke with tobacco at Homegrown Fantasy. I saved the cheese for the evening.

And! Yeah, the toilet is fantastic. A nice and comfortable coffee shop.

Next stop was 420. To get that Super Silver Haze (€12.00/g). Got my gram and a cup of coffee and sat down, downstairs, where they even have a microscope so that you can watch your bud in detail. Rolled up some haze ans fired it up. And here is the combination of the day! Start up with some nepal and then kick it up with this haze. Now we are getting close to my memories. Spent some time here during the afternoon and it was crowded most of the time. Of course it is located right in the middle of the tourist area.

After some walking and tram travel I was back in the Burger Bar from yesterday. Tasted fine today as well.

Today was no rain at all, but a steady and cold wind. So you prefer to be indoors. And indoors can be in a tram. Try sightseeing with the tram on your own, and it is kind of included in your travelcard, since you can travel as much as you want. I spent an hour on the tram. You sit down and just enjoy the city passing by.

The evening was intended for the rest of the Nepal Ice and the Cheese. I think I got the perfect mixture during the day and it did not come back during the evening. Maybe it is like you have already got enough and it really doesn’t matter what you smoke. You don’t feel any difference any more. The first smoke of the day is setting you up and if you should compare strains with each other, they should actually be tasted on different days.

Did I find the old-school on this day? Yeah! Maybe! The Pollen Nepal combined with the SSH, was great. So, yeah I found, at least a recepi.

See u later!

I agree more or less (but there would be much more to say about it. However, nice to see others reflecting it as I thought about it very often). Kind of 'inconvenient truth' .

Anyway, enjoy the rest of your days  !
