Hello all-
I am preparing for my first trip to Amsterdam. I do not smoke very often anymore and want to make sure I am not getting too strong of a bud and also I want to know if it is a sativa or indica I am smoking. I have been looking at his site as well as marijuanreviews and smokers guide and I have found a few strains of weed with exactly opposite descriptions. I don't know if it is just opinion or if a strain can be grown as both an indica and a sativa.
For instance I saw the following comments describing Jack Herer:
"energetic" and "eye shutting body high"
What gives?
I have seen cheese labeled as both an indica and a sativa, but mostly as an indica
I was hoping to get your input on this.
I saw some other posts that has some suggestions for sativa's that are not too much for an occasional smoker they were the NY Diesel, Lemon Haze, Chocolupe and Amnesia Lemon.
I was also going to try to find a decent, but not too strong indica for late night. I was thinking Blue Cheese or L.A. Confidential.
Am I on the right track here?
Thanks for all the knowledge that is spread on this board, it really helps folks like me out.
Peace and Love
Peace and Love.

Hey dude. Yeah you can cross sativas and indicas, to be fair most sativas have some indica in but only like 20% dont hold me to this but i think its rare to find a 100% sativa.. . Just tell the budtender what your looking for and they will usually lead u in the right direction. The menus normally have some form of discription as well. keep looking through this forum as other people like yourself have asked similar questions about what strains are good to start on if u dont want to go to strong. Good Luck! and have fun! as im sure u will!

I´m also an occasional smoker (once every 6 weeks) and I must tell you, that I never experienced any problems smoking cannabis in Amsterdam. Just don´t overdo it!

If you smoke with tobacco just take a little less of the "green thing"
As far as NYC Diesel ( from SomaSeeds) is concerned I must tell you that I LOVE this strain... I would call it my favorite all day smoke! It´s pretty much 50% sativa 50% indica, marvellous taste and pleasant high.
Super Lemon Haze might be a little bit too much for the start. If you are not used to the Hazes it can be a little bit "overwhealming". Just smoke some lighter gear before and it will be fine!

Why not trying some good marrocan hashish. My "last smoke of the day" in Amsterdam is always a good maroc.
Another strain I would recommend for an occasional smoker to begin with is a good Blueberry or some Laughing Buddha.
I promise you: When you´re in Amsterdam on the third day you will smoke everything without problems! Just go easy on the beginning.
Have a nice time in the Dam! (I will be there too after Easter and damn I long for it)

Jack Herrer is mostly Sativa, some people report it as being kind of trippy. I haven't run across a sample that impressed me very much. There are different varieties of Cheese in Amsterdam. The best I have found is at Homegrown Fantasy. I think that runs more on the Sativa side. The Big Buddha Cheese, which is available all over town, has a little more Indica in it. The original Cheese came from a Skunk lineage , which is mostly Sativa. Big Buddha crossed that version with an Afghani, if I'm not mistaken.
If you want a mild Indica, White Widow or Blueberry would be a better choice then LA Confidential, which is quite fantastic by the way. I found the Blue Cheese to be very pleasant, not real strong. As far as a nice Sativa that isn't as strong as a Haze, I would choose the Honey B from Amnesia or Barneys. If The Green Place has Lemon Skunk, that is also a very pleasant smoke. Just ask the Bud Tender for something that will meet your needs at the time. If you get to high you can always "chill" in a Coffee Shop until you come down a little. Then get back on the streets with the throngs of people who are all in the same condition as you. Just watch for Bikes. Enjoy.

White Moses,
To review what has already been said, talk to the budtender and tell them what you want. Since you mentioned that you don't want anything strong, I recommend you stay away from anything with Haze in the name. Haze is a strong head-high which will kick your ass if you are not careful. Mentioned already on this thread is that the Haze is a Sativa.
Before I forget to mention, nearly all cannabis on the market is some type of hybrid, whether its Indica dominant, Sativa dominant, an even split, and Ruderalis, which is found in auto-flowering plants.
With these types of crosses, we are bound to feel the effects produced by both strains. (this comment is for the Jack question).
Here is a website that I hope answers some of your questions.
http://www.marijuanastrains.com/
- Sativa produces a head high. Good for being active. (not exclusively)
- Indica produces a body high. Good for bed time. (not exclusively)
Peace.
