Amsterdam Vondelpark renovation completed
28/02/2010

Amsterdam has celebrated the completion of a ten-year project to renovate the Vondelpark.

The final act was the unveiling of the restored statue of 17th century Amsterdam writer and playwright Joost van den Vondel. The park's drainage has been improved and its paths raised and restored. The five cafes and restaurants have also been renovated, as have been its five bridges and its playgrounds.

The Vondelpark was created in 1865 and was declared a national monument in 1996. The Amsterdam council says that each year an estimated ten million people visit the park to take a walk, to jog or to have a picnic.

I walked the entire length of the park this past Saturday and they still have some work that needs to be completed near the southwestern bird pond. Other wise the park looks good, even in dismal March.

Peace.

Nice!!

We absolutely LOVED the park when we visited. Really cannot wait to get back there. Gorgeous place to sit, eat, walk, bike, or do ANYthing really.

Plenty of benches to sit on whilst smoking a spliff and watching the day go by..........*big sigh*.
