was wondering if anyone ever goes to the cinema while in Amsterdam, and if the movies they show are in English or dutch....?

if anyone has ever been to a cinema somewhere close to the centrum, where they show movies in English, i would appreciate it you'd let me know where it is...?

Alice In Wonderland 3D is out the week before i get there and would love to see it after smoking a few spliffs of quality weed.
if its half as good as avatar 3d was after a joint then it should be an experience.

Went to the Cinema just off Rembrandt square it was in a lovely old building and had a nice beer with my popcorn. Movie was a standard Hollywood type in English. There is a more modern complex up the road too although it's presise location escapes me.

What Pauli said. Believe it's called Pathé Tuschinski and they have most of all the first run movies there. Here's a link:

http://www.pathe.nl/english/cinema/tuschinski/

I could be wrong, but it was my understanding that while the movies are shown in English, there are still Dutch subtitles? Can anyone confirm this?

I plan on seeing a movie while I'm there, mostly because of the history of the Tuschinski building which was built in 1921. Looks like a cool place to watch a movie.

Just curious -- can you leave the Pathe in the middle of a showing and come back (if you keep your ticket stub)? I'm just considering how awesome it would be to nip down to MY for a smoke during Avatar, a nearly 3 hour beast.

The cinema I went to there was a coffeeshop right across the street down a little side street. It was a low ceiling place very small and very friendly and cheap. I was the only customer in there. Does that ring a bell for anyone regarding it's name?

well I had the opportunity during the 420 last year to attend the Imagine film festival. Its like the Cannes of B rated horror movies. It was a blast. it was at the Tuschinski . Its right off Rembrantplein very close to Stix and smokeys coffee shop. Alot of the stars where there also. Lots of fun.

I LOVE the Tuschinski ...... They have some chairs that are actually small couches/loveseats ........ You can get a package deal with Beer/Wine/Nuts/Cheese And there is a really cool/weird candy store next door. The carpet there was flown in from (I cant remember what country) ? For free by KLM (Dutch air) If I remember right at a cost of about 10k Euro. GO ! Its totally cool !
