Where do you buy rubbing alcohol (isopropyl) in AMS?

Post by titus wong »

Hi all. Many a time, I've been tempted to bring home a grinder, throwaway pipe, or some other souvenir from de Land o' Mokum and wished for some powerful solvent to expunge whatever lingering odors and traces may exist of my hobby from the wet noses of drug sniffing dogs.

So where to get some...Etos? Albert Heijn? You folks have any other tips? TIA.

etos has some alcohol-based cleansing pads which should do the job and would be more convenient (as well as useful to have generally)

their dutch name is Reinigingsdoekjes and there are 25 in a packet

sadly, my only other tip is please do not try to beat at dog at the sniffing game, whatever you do the dog will win because they have the better nose

i understand the desire to bring home goodies from mokum, but i am Mr Caution and have to advise against it, why give others the opportunity to mess with your head

however, it is your life and your choice, best of luck with whatever you choose to do

This is not an attack on you, but these kinds of comments are very, very dangerous. You see, others may see your post and think it is true. But dogs can smell a tiny amount. And this comment may lead people to believe the dogs you encountered are the same ones they encountered. Dogs are trained to smell drugs, or bombs, or food, but generally not all three. You could have easily been sniffed by a dog looking for bombs.

Anyone who takes back small amounts via an airport is really misguided...especially to the US. Because if they find something on you, you will forever be in the database....

I walked past a dog that was wearing a 'Narcotics' coat and I was carrying about an ounce, the dog didn't even blink at me let alone bark, this was in Schiphol.

You are totally right. I think we have to take this just as an occasion to make a little statistic, nothing else and that's why I had put "for my experience" first.
A dog sensitivity could also change from dog to dog, breed to breed and trainers to trainers.
Btw I was quite sure the dog I found in my airport was also for drugsearching cause the corp of the "owner".
But if you could face really big problems in your homeland just act responsibly and leaving your grinder in Amsterdam it's the best choice ;) I think you can buy one for this use just there, they cost so few. I also remember an user on this forum take them in deposit for free.

etos or most any drug store will have a little bottle of isopropyl alcohol... They may keep it behind the counter however so it helps to ask. You WONT Find it at the albert heijn or other grocery stores... its called
Gedenatureerde alcohol

They have both 70% and 96% at my local etos... It's a small bottle of about 110mL and is a bit expensive at 3 euros but it's worth it... works great to clean those pieces...

hope that helps!

I just did an isopropyl wash of my grinder to make some "grinder hash". Did a good cleaning, yet the grinder still smells faintly of weed.

The grinder is a couple years old and pounds of pot have passed through it, so that might have something to do with it - it was much dirtier than you could possibly make a grinder in a week in the 'dam.
Why drink and drive when you can smoke and fly?

remember reading a while back that customs dogs in uk no longer sniff for cannabis, if this is true then dutch dogs definatly wont, in uk the 1st thing sniffer dogs are trained to smell is money

I appreciate your advice Mr. Caution, and the spirit in which it was proffered. I just wish to say that we're talking about the occasional odd piece of paraphernalia, and NOT the illegal transport of illicit substances. Smuggling weed or hash back to the states is too prohibitively risky for me, especially after the recent implementation of body scanners at Schiphol (it's a matter of preference -- I simply don't care to shoulder that amount of risk). All I hope to accomplish is to eliminate any telltale signs that whatever pipe or grinder I'm carrying has been used. Hopefully, if they're clean enough, I can avoid arousing suspicion or alerting any dogs. Thanks for the warning though.

Sure does. This was the nugget of intel I was fishing for, I bet that bottle will come in handy wiping down bongs and vaporizer nozzles while I'm there. Thanks!

Hi Marco. You seem to have an active interest in Dutch politics so you're prolly in a better position to answer your own question than am I. If you're implying however, that Dutch authorities would simply confiscate the goods in question and leave the matter at that, then I would imagine not. But that would be a subject better explored in a thread of its own, I think
