Ain't that a bitch!
For some reason my hotel reservation in Rotterdam during the Tour de France was canceled. I have looked at every possible site and the rates are now too expensive. So, I think we are going to make a detour to the UK. I have been to London numerous times and was wondering if maybe we should go to Edinburgh instead. Any advice on an alternate location in Western Europe or the UK would be greatly appreciated.

As a resident of the Burgh of Edin, I'd say come and vistit. Its an awsome city, and if you enjoy a beer, there's more public houses than one could possibly want. Plenty nice restraunts if yer a foodie. The whole city is quite small, so getting around is very easy.. And if yer lucky, it might be sunny
Oh, and if yer into museums and shit, we have loads http://www.nms.ac.uk/our_museums.aspx
This is the Daddy, and its free ( as far as I remember ) http://www.nms.ac.uk/our_museums/national_museum.aspx
If you make the Burgh yer base, you can be in Glasgow in 40 minutes ( train or car ) and a little longer, you could be at Loch Ness.
Edinburgh Airport has loads of daily flighs all over th U.K too, so day trips n shit are a possibility.
Any other questions, fire away, I'll do my best. There are a few Burgh of Edin, residents on this forum, and a few more Jocks from elswhere, so I'm sure we can collectivley help you out

Go on, you know you want too....

I am sold on Edinburgh, the problem is trying to get my m8 to go along with the plan. I've been twice, Spring 1997 & Summer 2003, and thoroughly enjoyed myself. We would fly in on 2 July and leave the 6th. I might have to compromise and stay in London the 2nd & 3rd and then fly to Edinburgh. The only other problem is getting back to A'dam before 10:00 to meet my brother. I looked at EasyJet and the only flight that day leaves in the afternoon, I wouldn't want to leave him to wonder alone on his first foreign trip. Any suggestions for getting back earlier on a budget? Where should we stay? Both times I stayed off Princes St., which was convenient, but is that the best location? I'm sure we'll do the Whiskey Museum, Edinburgh Castle and the Night Tour. Besides a pub crawl, which is a prerequisite, anything else I'm missing?

Theres also a train service from Edinburgh to London. There may be a direct route, you may have to go to Glasgo via Lancaster/Preston down. Much shorter, can be expensive.
A cheaper route on the train is Edinburgh to Manchester then Manchester to London.
Dude, i've been an Epic tit, i thought you was worrying about getting back to london, ignore that post.

Have you tried the KLM website, they often have an early morning flight to Amsterdam from Edinburgh, usually around the £100 pound return ( dunno if return matters? ).balou1999 wrote:I am sold on Edinburgh, the problem is trying to get my m8 to go along with the plan. Princess Street, or George Street are the prime locations in Edinburgh City center for Hotels, but tbh, I pay no attention to hotels, being as I live here

I'm ashamed to say I've never visited Edinburgh, been to paisley once and also went up to Loch Kishorn as a kid by car (from the midlands) which is probably why I hate the thought of driving up there again, I suppose I should mention I got married in Gretna Green as well, no we didn't elope either it was all planned.
