I'm glad you asked! The point is and always was, is that cannabis can help and it can heal. The point was never about the man, Rick Simpson, the point was always about the discovery he made and brought to the public's attention. The discovery being that concentrated cannabiniods can heal people's illnesses and ailments, including cancer. Why wasn't it some research scientist that works for any government?
I believe some governments knew about this but were holding the information back from the people in order to fill their own pockets with money from drugs and procedures that do not cure and do not save lives.

DC, you were the one that was dubbing him a messiah. I don't think he's a messiah and I never said that he was, but what would you call a man or what recognition would you give to a man that discovered the cure for cancer? Nobel Peace Prize? International Humanitarian award?

In his 1971 State of the Union speech, President Richard Nixon declared war on cancer, prompting passage of the National Cancer Act, aimed at making the "conquest of cancer a national crusade." Just four years later, scientists from the National Cancer Institute published a study demonstrating that a group of compounds taken from a common, widely cultivated plant shrank lung tumors that had been implanted in mice, extending their survival.
In a world that made sense, this plant and the anticancer drugs it produced would have been rushed into further testing, and we'd have known in a few years whether they had potential as treatments for human cancers. Instead, research proceeded at a glacial pace, with almost no further progress till the 1990s. Since then, vast quantities of lab and animal data have confirmed those early findings, but studies of these plant compounds in actual human beings with cancer remain nearly nonexistent.
What got in the way was Nixon's other war, the "war on drugs." The plant in question was cannabis sativa -- marijuana -- public enemy number one in that other war, and discovering that marijuana had beneficial properties was the last thing the U.S. government wanted to do.

No, I don't because he didn't discover it, you even say yerself you think 'some governments' knew about it already and if it's the same 'governments' that stanky is goin on about..that was back in 1974. I dubbed him the 'messiah' because like god, faith in what he's saying seems to be all you need to believe him. Some sort of recorded proof is all we've asked from you, but apart from Simpson propoganda flicks to raise awareness about his impending incarceration, any reference you make is always to somebody elses work. Which, if they were started on their course by what Rick Simpson is doin that's fine, but I very much doubt they were and by all means feel free to post any connection you can find. That's all that has been requested Puffin, a bit of tangible evidence to back up yer claim of who you say he is and what he's done. I don't disagree with what he does, just how he's decided to do it and "the man that discovered the cure for cancer" is something he isn't. Your point was never just about the healing aspects of MJ, it's been about the oppression of a weed 'freedom fighter' by the man and the conspiracy theory involving large pharma companies. It's the condecending, guilt riddled, high moral stance you use while talking about it is what leaves a bad taste in my mouth though, because if you were half as interested in the point you say yer making, then you'd have noticed the more relevant things that have been posted about this topic (including from yerself) and would've concentrated more on that, than Rick Simpsons youtube videos.
