Coffeeshop with the "nicest" staff?

Post by trike »

Hi everyone,
Just curious as to what coffeshop you thought had the best staff in terms of being helpful, generous etc. (From your experiences)

I miss that place so much.

Considering DC works at, and they gladly house 'Het Boek', I would say 't Nes.

G'day Trike.

My coffeeshop experience in terms of different ones visited is rather limited but I have never had any problems with rude staff.

Pink Floyd sticks out as probably the most memorable from my last visit. I was there once and the "waitress" at the bar was probably the most friendly I came across. Scottish girl who was very happy to spend some time chatting with the customers.

The dealer was a rather large bearded English dude who was equally friendly but in a less enthusiastic sort of way to the waitress.

Nes-Cafe is basically the place to be for all connected with ACD when they choose to go to Amsterdam. No problems with any of the staff and I was there on several occasions. They will go out of their way to help you.

Irish girl there pointed out some very good shops where I could go to buy souvenirs for my nieces when I was there, DC was and probably still is an absolute star and the others I came across were also friendly enough.

There are some shops I have read about where certain attitude problems exist with certain staff but I would say that if you go in all smiles and friendly then the staff will probably behave the same way towards you.

Thanks guys,
I thought Nes would be a winner.
Pleased to hear about Pink Floyds - That was on my list for next time already! 8)
I've also read a few reviews complaining of rude staff - but I agree with Doog - I think it does come down to how nice you appear to them. Just wanted to see if any stood out in particular...so far so good... :)
I miss that place so much.

Hard question to answer as there seems to be high turnover in coffeeshops.
Whatever your experience in a shop yout next visit could be totally different.

From my experience over the years John at the Grey Area ranks with the best.
My thoughts are free.

Hard to argue with this!! I'm sure everyone has had different experiences at different shops and therefore have many views and recomendations. From my own experiences in shops visited I would rank Pink Floyd, De Kuil, The Coin, Katsu and Tweede Kamer as all having excellent all around customer service. Not saying that the others weren't friendly, just these are the shops that stand out in that factor.

Don't want to end the post on a bad note but I would say the only 2 coffeeshops in Amsterdam I wouldn't revisit due to bad vibes from the staff are La Canna and Kabouter (3 if you include Theehuis in Haarlem).

.....be the next customer after i've had to deal with some junkies and ya may find a bit of an edge to my service quality. :D To be honest though there really isn't any excuse for that either. We choose to be in this industry and can leave at any time, but I s'pose we're human too. So, with that in mind I'd say sometimes the benefit of the doubt might need to be given to some staff, especially on a single visit, but go back again and it's the same?. Then yeah, they're a bunch of muppets! Rule of thumb for me is....if ya have to look for the place then generally the staff are good.

Awesome feedback guys - I know that people's opinions will differ, but I think its interesting as to what coffeeshop people thought had really nice staff. I thought that the big, "commercial" coffeeshops (la canna etc) would have pretty "impersonal" staff - but I guess that's a given....
I think it is safe to say that good weed doesn't make a good coffeeshop and I think this "staff feedback" is a good way to organise where you wanna go when you're next there. Pleased to hear about Grey Area, the weed there has a great reputation - (I couldn't remember what the staff we're like last time because it was soooo busy!) Stones ay? That's cool, I'm staying very close to there.....
I miss that place so much.

if you buy something from them, they're all nice...

umma gumma sticks out, they're VERY cool there... The Coin is nice, Rokerij has the hottest chicks working there... Alot of shops have dickheads if you check their menu and don't buy something. Sorry, i'm not always impressed, especially if they offer the standard white widow, jack herrer, orange bud and northern lights.... yawn....

 ....Smoking snobbery sucks ass!

....and for the nicest staff in town fullstop, the cannabis college wins hands down considering they're volunteers. 8)

My vote is also for John at Grey Area. What a nice guy. He always remembers me from my previous visits and I really like that. He's also given me some small token deals, meaning that if I buy 5 grams of Grey Mist Crystals he might knock off a few euros or if I buy a lot of one kind of marijuana he might give me a small bud of another kind at no charge.

I agree alot with the forum members. If I have a bad experiance with a coffeeshop I just go somewhere else. Lots of C.S. around, all that said, Nes is my place of choice. Not just Dave, but Bruce and Simon are all great guys. I was lucky enough to get to know Dave a little bit and truly a nice guy. DC, 5 1/2 months and the wife and I will be stopping in and saying hello at least a few times. AzLaker 8)
