Just some things I've gathered from the forum

Post by Newbie 2 dah Dubbie »

Hello all -

So I've been reading lots of reviews of coffee shops and weeds/hash to try -- I did this just for my own use - but thought that I might share my findings - get input - and someone else might find helpful.

I did a lot of cut and pasting - because this was for my own use - didn't think I'd be sharing - I didn't "site" my sources - most info is just from you all - some from other websites - anyway if this isn't cool me reposting stuff people said without siting let me know and I'll delete.

I thank you all for your great info -- looking forward to adding to my info as I learn new stuff --

If you are wondering - I used to be an event/meeting planner so yes I like to plan things

I hope you enjoy --- yes it's long....

Forum suggestions-
Close to our B&B
Barney's - Haarlemmerstraat 102 (625 97 61).
• Utopia Haze from Barney's, grabbed 2gram... really love this stuff. Barney’s, for 5 grams
• Red Dragon...super spongey to the touch, and boy is it absolutely caked with trichs! – good for morning wake and bake Barney's Red Dragon - A cross between Utopia Haze and Pink Kush, a great great great sex weed. Soft and spongy, it smokes smooth and was a real fav!
• Dr Grinspoon Much like GA pure sativa, you can't go wrong. A little costlier (like many of my favs) but worth the price IMO.
• G13xHaze –
• Bong likes the Vanilla Kush
• close to Central Station. If you arrive early by train this might be a good first stop. The extensive breakfast menu, and the fact that its served all day long, is the main attraction of Barney's. All food is prepared with organic ingredients, and what's more, even the weed is organically grown. A few doors down is Barney's brasserie with meals and alcohol to go with your smoke.
Open daily 7am-8pm.

Dampkring 2 - Haarlemmerstraat 44 1013 ES Amsterdam - Amsterdam Map ref: E1 www.dampkring.nl/?handle=dampkring_haarlemmerstraat
• NYCD; Chocolope SUPER QUALITY! Highly recommended and Laughing Buddah
• Rifman Aziza (14/g) was very nice, too... it smells very sweet and it was so fresh
• Very comopolitian look to it – very modern
• Melana Cream –
• white russian was awesome - i feel this was the best smoke of whole trip not as it was cheap but it killed us all within 5 minuetes had a lovely wierd kind of creamy taste loved it.
• cheese & tibizla hash is good
• bublegum was better lovely taste - laughing buddah and white russian. both good for daytime tripping
• hot chocolate from here, I had never seen anything like it and also their pancakes were awesome and fairly reasonable by Amsterdam price standards at 4.50e for a nice big pancake with syrup
• try a pre rolled moonshine joint 8e
• hash cake from here which was very light moist and tasty, unlike many space cakes in amsterdam and had a covering of chocolate cream. Weed space cakes were available in muffins
• Dampkrings II« MENU is prob the best in town and on last trip became my Wake and bake shop «the budtender are prob the coolest Buds in town he knew by second day what i wanted to smoke each wake! (think cause i told him on first visite that was here for the Cheese) Mexican Haze at Dampkring, it has a nice clear headed high that leaves you feeling functional.

Picasso - Haarlemmerstraat 8 1013 ER Amsterdam

• Diesel, white widow Close to hotel – small place less expensive than some others
• its fun - better seats upstairs with a piece of cubism - Bubblegum t had a lovely flavour

GreenHouse Lounge –
• I'd have to rate the Alaskan Ice as the top smoke, closely followed by the Hawaian Snow. The Strawbery Haze smelt really fruity allthough I'm not sure it was a strawberry smell. It was a really nice smoke but expensive at 14E per g. The Alaskan Ice came with recommendations from 2 budtenders (they refer to it as "Alaska Nice") and was prob the best sativa I sampled this trip - there is a glass floor that is truly unique downstairs

Greenhouse Tolstraat 91 (673 74 30).

• One of the best in town, according to the jury of the Cannabis Cup. It has won several awards, so worth the detour from city centre. Greenhouse is a coffeeshop on two levels, with an upstairs pool room, and a colorful interior with beautiful mosaics throughout. Relaxed atmosphere and good food, for a coffeeshop at least. Open daily 9am-1am. [47 reviews, avg 9/10]
• Super Lemon Haze***many recommendations **
• admittedly, very cool, indeed. The in-floor fish tank is mind blowing! –
• OG Kush …luv that smell! Bong rates the smoke. OG Kush: 8.5 out of 10 – good food - EXCELLENT lattes

Amnesia is the best of the rest.
• Sour Diesel –****
• Good milkshakes chocolate one the first time, last time I discovered the mocha one.
• Quazar Haze 34e - *smoked the quazar in two fatties and it was a hit with the mrs as well, really really a great horny weed. loved it, 1 or 2 on any list moving forward. **** must get*****
• LSD
• MKultra was out of this world.
• Manali Cream - hash
• Laughing Buddah********
• F*cking perfect décor to complement the name…this place is trippy!
• REALLY like the Pink Kush, man. You can't go wrong!"= Nice and warm, and quite strong, body stone that came on pretty quickly Was great for sex,

Ben
• 3g/Lemon Haze 40e *this weed was instant boner, no not Boner, but a boner! wife said the same things, that her body was tingling all over and she wanted a little special time

Katsu
• Black Widow! Black Widow always makes everyone chatty and giggly – og 18

Paradox

• was tops. When I was last there (May04) the music was mellow (Etta James and Crowded House) and the place exuded the sophisticated charm of its Jordaan canal-side locale. There is a ton of reading material (mostly Dutch) and the foods and fruit juices are great.
Old Church!
• I love this place at night, especially when it's raining outside and the streets are illumintaed by a sparkle of red light off the wet cobbled floor. The top floor is a nice place to crash out with a bong in hand. -- old church as I love the cosmopolitan atmosphere, also their prices were good and the staff were friendly

Easy Times and Tops;
• great owners and bud-tenders, very clean shop (toilets were very clean), reasonable prices, excellent coffee and right along a great canal. Tried 24 shops in the Dam, including the highest rated ones on several days at different times, and these two shops are the best, IMO.
Their menus were extensive; the quality of their weed and hashes were the finest I had. Their Cheese was the best cannabis strain I tried during this trip. Their own special Moroccan hash is a beautiful color, fresh texture and aroma and the only thing that came close was the Isolator at WW Sinsemilla in Haarlem. Kudos to the folks at these shop for they seem to work hard at making their customers feel welcome and satisfied with their purchases.

The dolphin «
• downstairs love to sit and look at them walls « i mostly go late at night on way back to hotel to relax and smoke some White dolphin -- Dolphins for me, I love the place, Nothing better for me than to chill out on the couches downstairs with a cheese and ham toasty and a chocomel after a great joint and a few goes at the vaporiser. - The Dolphins next and another quality shop, air conditioning, free internet and the White Dolphin house brand is great. bought two large pure rolls for 8e each (fantastic value for this great great smoke!) Dolphins - 2 tables on either side of the room with 3 table-mounted vaporizers – cool inside - Royal Dolphin Hash and a gram of White Dolphin.

GOOD BUD

Grey Area Coffeeshop - Grey Area - Oude Leliestraat 2 - 1015 AW Amsterdam, Holland - Phone: + 31 020 4204301 - http://www.greyarea.nl/home.html - Amsterdam Map ref: D4
Oude Leliestraat 2 (420 43 01).
Close to city center in a small street on the edge of the Jordaan district you'll find the Grey Area Coffeeshop, winner of numerous Cannabis Cup awards. The shop is run by experienced smokers who are more than willing to share their wisdom with the customers. True to the roots of the owners service includes US style eighth-ounces (3.5 grams for the rest of us), and an excellent collection of bongs. A home away from home for a lot of US travellers, including a fair number of celebs.
Open daily 12am-8pm.

• if were simply talking about quality of bud – chocoloupe ***MUST*** is well worth a purchase Chocolope did have a very fruity taste, and a good wake n bake type high, and the grey mist crystals are legendary. Grey Area Equatorial Sativa - 16.50e a gram but worth every penny. Do not smoke this weed immediately after smoking another sativa, you will waste your money. This is a great first smoke in the morning to get your gears going and have a productive day. Equatorial Sativa and The Wobbler - Grey Myst - greyberry haze is the tastiest weed I've ever smoked – (Silver Bubble ***) OH Kush
• Golden Soles was some of the best hash I found in the Dam

Homegrown Fantasy- Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal 87a 1012 RE Amsterdam - Amsterdam Map ref: E3 and Centrum Map spot: 94 (B5) - www.homegrownfantasy.com
• quality//comfort I would choose - due to their selection and the fact that they have 4 Volcano balloons so there's no waiting, and they have HUGE bags on them. Tommy the owners son is a cool cat. Enjoy. -- Homegrown Fantasy is the most comy CS in A/dam. I always like what ever is on their menu. Say Cheese!*** MUST TRY*** - Home Grown Fantasy, also try the sour kush, amazing indica, and awesome taste, very different from the cheese. Cheese , Sour Diesel, Silver Pearl -- Silver Pearl also gets many positive reviews

GOOD VIBE

Basjoes - KLOVENIERSBURGWAL 62 - 1012 CX AMSTERDAM- Amsterdam Map ref: F6 and Centrum Map spot: 66 (F7) www.basjoe.com
• without at least trying something on the menu, so i ask what’s really good today? Bas Special, 11e a gram is the response. HmmmI rolled a 1 gram pure and FOOOOOP! My head is feeling awesome. Underline AWESOME. Terminator Bas Special - Really great pleace!! When entered here I really understood the meaning of "good vibe". - Cheese was REALLY GREAT - daylight away from the main drags, so it appears to attract folks who are keen on smoking rather than just tourists trying it for the first time. Hash – Cream special
• Basjoe Space Cake as her favorite

GOOD FOR SWEETS
Rokerijj 111
• was the friendliest place yet, with really friendly staff. The dealer chatted to us a lot and was only too eager to show us his wares and told us about Queens day (so we are taking him at his word and coming this year. Their muffins carry a warning saying "THIS MUFFIN CAN SERIOUSLY ENHANCE YOUR DAY" it did just that and was the tastiest too. SOUR D
• good place to sit in the dark and relax

420 café - Oudebrugsteeg 27 - 1012 JN Amsterdam www.420cafe.com and www.coffeehouseculture.com

• 420 haze from, easily the best tasting haze I tried
• Super Silver Haze has always been my first smoke of any trip (if the place is open!) and is a fine start to a busy day - the NYCD is also a firm favourite - great flavour, and of the hashes they serve there, I have to say the Parvati Creme always does the trick for me
• New York Diesel was a nice smoke - it tasted like candy on my lips and tongue on the inhale
• Have vaporoizers , distinctive feature is the friendly bring-your-own food policy. This is cool because Oudebrugsteeg, where de Kuil is located, has a good selection of take-away food and cake shops (some open very late). pool table -its still good weed, just not the best...The guys working here and those just smoking all seemed to be cool guys....this place has a good atmosphere....if u havent tried it yet, then do....

Mellow Yellow

• LA Confidential , Sleestack , Blue Berry Ice-o-lator, SSH 420

Green Place Kloveniersburgwal 4 1012 CT Amsterdam - Centrum Map spot: 62 (F6)
• Mango Kush ** - Super Lemon Haze
• Blueberry Cheese ***MUST TRY*** from Green Place. Christopher Amsterdam tells me he paid 13 Euro/gram. He also says he’s seen it sold as: Bleu Cheese and Blue Cream Cheese. I love this stuff. Great high…great taste…oh yes…a new favorite Green Place... holy mother of god that stuff has some kick. we were pretty tired, but this stuff was the perfect "goodnight" sleeper. very strong taste, and punchy high... not sure about an actual "blue berry" taste, but it had a very unique flavor. - I say it’s a GREAT morning high!

HUNTERS –
• super silver haze and NYCD from Hunters which were both excellent
• NYCD is really fuckin' good
• fish tanks along the wall are great to lose yourself in! What is it about fish tanks when you have been smoking?! Grabbed some Lavender (E9/g) which is a nice little smoke, not too heavy, and some Amnesia Haze (E14/g), which is pretty expensive but seriously messed with my head. It really is pretty strong
• SoGouda was a nice smoke

Katsu…
• for some Black Widow - high crawls up on you…(back home we call that “creeper” weed - This is fun weed. I like it! In fact, Bong gives it 9 out of 10!
• Near a nice outdoor market -

De Dampkring Handboogstraat 29 (638 07 05).
• A must visit, this winner of several Hightimes Cannabis Cups. Though winning this prestigous award attracts a fair share of visitors from abroad, the Dampkring is all in all still very much a coffeeshop for locals, with a friendly staff which will answer any questions you might have.
Open daily 10am-1am.
• White Widow / White russian

Greenhouse Namaste - Waterlooplein 345 (622 54 99).

• For those not able or willing to make the trek to the Greenhouse in the Tolstraat they've opened a smaller branch on the Waterlooplein. Wonderful, bizarre 'spiritual' interior. Large outside terrace with a good view of the Amstel river, the Waterlooplein and city hall.
Open daily 9am-1am. [23 reviews, avg 8/10]

Rasta Baby Prins Hendrikkade 6-7 (624 74 03).

• Reggae coffeeshop near Central Station with jungle style interior and a glassed-in terrace, which true to style tends to overheat a little during summer. Rasta Baby serves alcohol.
Open daily 9am-1am. [106 reviews, avg 9/10]

De Rokerij Lange Leidsedwarsstraat 41 (622 94 42).

• De Rokerij usually scores well with the Cannabis Cup jurys, and is a real gem in the otherwise touristy Leidseplein area. Knowledgable staff caters to a mix of locals and visitors, and is willing to take time to explain. Laid back atmosphere, with nice murals. Sprouted de Rokerij II (in the Jordaan) and de Rokerij III (near Rembrandtplein). Open daily 10am-1am.
Stix –Temple Balls
TWEED KAMER.
• for which I will remember forever, nice helpful staff, great smoke and hash. Hands down my favorite. Nicce cozy atmosphere. – local dutch place
Bushdoctor, and the Noon have the best product, in my opinion.

Rusland and the food and vibe are tops

Bluebird – Blueberry Cheese

My advice, throw that away and just relax and have a nice time!! Seriously, do more than coffeeshops.

But enjoy your smoke as I am sure you will. And if you run into anything and need some help while you are here, PM me.

What B & B are you staying at? Just curious, as I tend to bookmark accommodations. For buds, I trust my eyes and nose. I can second that Black Widow, strong stuff and quite tasty.

Nice list but dont take everything you read as gospel as things change very quickly especially in Amsterdam.

Marco, this is the coffeeshop forum most of us are here primarily for coffeeshops and what they have to offer.

You've done well Gras-shopper. hehe
If only more would do what you have done, better still, used the search function and read threads like this one.

Before my first Amsterdam (cannabis) experience, I read numerous opinions, talked with friends and acquaintances about their experiences, and brought along the ACD Amsterdam map. I believe this preparation enabled me to have a more enjoyable experience, all things considered. I've been to ADam so many times that the only thing I might do now prior to leaving is read up on what is available, by whom, and the price. Not so difficult for me to remember because the shops I frequent are fewer than 20. On occasion, I may venture to shops I read about and could find interesting, so it's back to the map for some quick study.

If you have Google Earth, use the walk-around feature provided in street view. I think this is an excellent visual aid to use as well.

Peace.

..and I just wanted to say thanks for your time and energy in compiling this list, as Boner says it may be out of date within a month or two but a couple of the things in it caught my eye (the bit about the spiritual interior and river view at one of the CS) and was useful..the next thing for you to do maybe is get out there asap and tell us whether you agree with all that you have compiled, we love a good bud debate and welcome to the forum :D

So ready for our trip -- when gets a bit closer I'll look for some current suggestions :) The travel logs have so many little tips if you are reading closely - little things that are just good to know :)

We only have 6 days so I want to make sure we go to quality shops and don't get stuck in tourist traps :)

I will definately come back and give my impressions - going to take a little notebook :)

You will have a riot, six days is more than enough, Im jealous. Ive been going for a very long time but only found this very friendly forum a year ago and I can easily say that for several reasons my last trip was easily the best for me, and part of it was down to not going to the same old touristy Bud bars and reading here who does the best Morrocan/nepalese etc, which is friendly etc, I wasted not one day and efficiently scooped up the best bits on Day one and then kicked back and enjoyed ithe next days knowing that I had found already enough really great hash to keep me going for the whole three days, therefore the next two days I could go with the flow and enjoy my random stoned behaviour/expeditions without worrying that Id missed a crucial bit of hash/bud..and of course I also only got to visit a tiny amount of the Coffee shops id intended to, which means I cant wait to be there again in a couple of months...This trip Im looking for Black Widow, the best Kush I can find, ditto silver haze, Charas and Temple balls and cheese - here I come.....as someone else said, make sure you DONT stick to your schedule for a day or two, thats when the really mad shit/memorable stuff tends to happen..

You guys are funny !!

believe it or not - i'm not planning our days with any type of schedule - we might pick one "productive" thing to do each day .. like anne frank house, canal ride, see some mills and tulips, see some art :)

I am a stay at home mom so just the freedom of being "kid free" for a week is just a vacation in itself being able to hang up my "mom" hat and be naughty is the plan :)

anyone know what day time is best to see anne frank house -- btw -- i've read crowds can me daunting

I hit it about 18:00, it was great no line at all. You could buy your tix ahead of time and print them out at home. I do that with tix quite a bit, as it helps me budget.
