I'll be staying at the Greenhouse Effect Hotel once again in April. I love the Hotel, it's like a home away from home, and the discount on the purchases at the coffeeshop makes it the best value in town. I haven't been to Amsterdam since 2009, does anyone have nay recommendations?

Just returned from a 2 night stay in their " Fluo " room. The room was perfect for the 3 of us, clean comfortable and better in real life than the posted photos on their site. Great bar that is smoker friendly and a good coffeeshop too. What more does a group of lads need. The Greenhouse Effect special was a grand smoke too. We have found ourselves a home in Amsterdam and will be back soon as possible. Cant recommend The Greenhouse Effect enough. Thanks to all the lovely staff who made our stay so relaxed

The Hotel is fuckin' ace but the room we stayed in was mega noisy and hot, although it was in the roof and was 35c outside so not really their fault. All the rooms have a mini bar which they will restock for you everyday, plus you can smoke inside too. The weed is really good for the centrum and the discount given when you stay there makes it really good value. The coffeeshop is little on the small and narrow side so I recommend popping next door to the smoker friendly bar where again everyone we met was really nice. What made it for me though was my 19 year old brother having a whole pint of bear dropped on them by a massive 60 year old German guy who then tried to chat him up while the two of us had been drinking and smoking their excellent Amnesia Haze, bless him he didn't know what to do with himself.

Im staying here 5-8th April. Got a single, private room. I emailed and asked for the red-light room but they said they're fully booked so cant change (i guess that means I'm in the spaceman room?)

My big question is, what's the weed like here?
Peoples recent experiences/recommendations?

The reviews seem to be quite mixed. I know a lot is dependent on what batches they have in, etc etc.

I looked at their menu online, quite a few nice Hazes. Couldn't decide on the hashes.

What discount do you get if you're a guest of the hostel?

Friendly budtenders?

Apologies for all the questions!

Worring about the quality of grass in Amsterdam is a bit of a waste of time....as a general rule they are all better and cheeper than you will get in your own country. All you need concern yourself with Indica or Sativa. You could drive yourself nuts looking at menus. That said I can recomend Doctor Grinspoons at Barneys and the house special at the Greenhouse Effect. Dont forget to try the vapourisers, such a clean hit. Enjoy yourself and make sure you bring a good pair of walking shoes.......you will end up walking too far, everyone does.

Thanks for the reply man. Not my first time in Amsterdam so I know about the shoes! (I remember my first time only taking one pair of canvas converse .. it rained for 4 days, they never had time to dry and I nearly got trenchfoot! Ha ha)

I know what I’m after for the trip, I said in the introductions page: my plan is to recreate the film Sideways, but with weed! 8)

Idea is – nice hashes, sativas for the day and indicas for night time hotel smokes.

Have a hit-list of stuff/shops already (both from previous trip experiences and recommendations from here):

Grey Area – Silver bubble or quaze
Paradox – fingerhash, Turkish hash, chocolope
Voyagers – kosher kush, kandy kush
Utopia – Citronella, Grand Cru hash
Kandinsky’s – Trans himalayan
Barneys – Dr Gindspoon
420- De Kuli – Nevilles Haze, Carmello hash
Babylon – Tidighin hash

I'm sure this list will change but MAN I am excited!

The reason I asked about greenhouse effect gear , given that I’m staying there and the possibilities of discounts – I wanted to gage what peoples thoughts were. Never visited this coffeeshop before and was intrigued.

My theory on weed in Amsterdam is: Why settle for second best. You have a limited amount of time in a place with such a huge variety of high quality weed – you have to take advantage of it. My analogy is: why would you go to a Belgian beer festival and drink nothing but Stella!

The gear there is normally very good and with the 15% discount is very cheap in comparison to a lot of places in the centrum. All of the bud tenders there have been patient attentive and very nice, plus they have a computer linked up to a stereo so you can play songs from youtube that you like. The coffee is great and reasonably priced, but as I said it is quite a narrow cramped cs so go next door to their bar to enjoy your purchase. I would stay away from their special though as it can be a bit hit our miss. The last time I had it the ash was very hard and black although the strength was okay I binned it as it obviously hadn't been properly flushed. Use your nose and eyes as always but in general this is a great shop in what is a very touristy area.

This is probably the best advice to follow whenever you're in Dam. I also usually ask the budtender what they recommend and if that matches up with the sight and smell then you won't go far wrong. One thing I understand better now is that popular cs often restock a few times a day so what's good one day may not be the same the next. I appreciate that the people the cs are buying from aren't producing a few plants worth of each strain at a time but obviously quality can vary quite a bit even within the same grow.

hi everyone, I'm going to amsterdam this weekend and after a hard search over the web i managed to find an apartment in the greenhouse effect. I wanted to know if you can smoke WEED in the rooms/apartments, i keep reading everywhere that you can smoke in the rooms but haven't found someone saying it is weed that you can smoke. Could anyone please tell me if you can smoke weed inside the rooms or do we need to go the coffeshop downstairs?

I think they stopped the 10% off and replaced it with a voucher, 1 per day i think. Unsure how much of a discount it gave, think it was DRA who mentioned it to me in March.

Here I am at the Greenhouse Effect Hotel after spending my first night in the Red Man Room. I am waiting for my Swiss friend to get up and at 'em after a late night of wandering around the centrum and toking. Our meal last night was delicious. We ate at the Si-Chuan Restaurant on Warmoesstraat. Not only was the food great but we also enjoyed excellent service as well as reasonable prices for the centrum.

I would also like to take the time now to rave about the great breakfast buffet here at the Greenhouse Effect which is served free for hotel guests from 9am until 12 noon. I always try to eat twice during this time since it's available. It's a great value and makes staying here even more attractive. I have stayed here many times since 1999 and I have heartily recommended the Greenhouse Effect as a destination ever since. Value and location make it a choice spot for your home base or meeting point.

One thing that has changed is the hotel guest discount offered on purchases at the coffeeshop, Instead of giving you a straight 10% discount on your purchases just by showing your key at the dealer's booth, you are now given discount vouchers at the time you check in to the hotel. These discount vouchers give you 2 euro off on your purchase of 20 euro or more. I do not like this new system because I don't usually purchase 20 euro worth of weed or hash at any one time, but at least the option is available to me as a hotel guest.

I seriously wish we would get a break in the current weather trend so we can have some time to walk around without getting rained on, Some sunshine would be a nice treat too. Be that as it may, my main agenda item for the day is getting to Voyager's at 3pm to meet the cool ACD people who are also in town at this time. I am looking forward to it and have been for awhile now.

Pretty place, weeds of quality in general but expensive.

I do not like greenhouse because I thus do not like ARJAN the owner I do not go there any more.

Too much trade, keep silent trade!

Greenhouse Effect has nothing to do with Arjan's Greenhouse... you can like them now !
