Well the time as come to buy a camera of my own, after Iceolatoring my last one and having to borrow shitty ones ever since.
Not looking for DSLR just a nice pocket size camera that will take the most important of Dam shots. (Bud Shots).

I am pressuming i need at least 5x Zoom (Not digital) and at least 12 Megapixels. I also want it to be Li-on so i dont have to buy batterys. I have a couple in mind but want to see if they pop up in the replys.

Advice please, any links and even any close up bud shots to show would be great.

Not expecting alot of replys but any are very welcome.

Saw this in the paper this morning: Canon A3000 - if you google it it's £100 at Argos.

We have a Canon and it's very good, ours is 7.1 megapixel.

Edit: Just took this

I'd look for a macro feature, but be aware of lighting - since the lens usually has to be 1cm-3cm away from the subject matter - the flash is of little use.

I have a nikon coolpix and an olympus. No trouble with either, but the nikon - for an equivalent megapixel and optical zoom takes higher quality photos.

Cameras on phones seem to be just as good nowadays, but you could have an awesome 12 mega pixle camera, but it's useless if the lens is crap, having a really good lens is very important, although phone cameras you are a bit limited with options, the one I use on my phone is all I use now for a quick snap shot, even the macro is impressive.

I used to be heavily into photography as it was part of my graphic design college course, but this was using film and dark rooms, etc. Got a nice SLR camera with 300mm telephoto lens, fish eye lens and a standard lens, but it's in the attic collecting dust since digital.

I was gutted my cheapo camera didn't have manual focus. It has a macro and you can see it pass perfect focus, but it rarely settles on it.

Dunno if pricier models are better at this, or whether they routinely have manual focus.

+1 for Canon. I have an SD1000 7.1 MP 4x Optical Zoom that I carry just about everywhere. Also look at the SD 1300 IS(12.1 MP, 4x) and 1400 IS(14.1 MP, 4x & shoots in HD)

Peace,
Balou

Hi Kermit

I would recommend a Canon. Its what im gonna upgrade my compact too next. I think Boner's found a fantastic deal there. A3000 was £179 now £100!!! :D 10 Megapixels and 4x optical zoom..Good specs..They are also offering a half price memory card but i would recommend going to my memory as SD cards are super cheap there.

Other good makes to take note of..Nikon, Fuji, Casio or Sony.

for example: Nikon 12Mp 5x zoom £60 off! http://www.jessops.com/online.store/pro ... /show.html

Nice Picture Boner, what is said chronic?

I sell phones for a living, and used to sell digital cameras. There is no comparison between a cell phone camera and a dedicated digital camera. They may have the same number of megapixels, but that is only part of the story. The digital camera will always take better pics than a cell phone camera.

Of course it does! You're speaking to a technophile here who has studied photography both film and digital. Obviously a dedicated camera is better. However, all cameras are crap, it's only the person who takes the picture that makes the photograph. Some people may have all the expensive equipment they can afford, but if they haven't got an eye for photography or design, then it's pointless.

Anyway, rant over. I've taken just as good still shots on my old mobile phone that a dedicated digital camera can do. It's all about subject matter, but I agree, having a dedicated camera can't be beaten, especially ones with interchangable lenses and ability to lower or higher shutter speeds, etc. Having worked in photography dark rooms, really teaches you the fundamentals to understanding photography as a whole.

Still, I'll always use my camera phone when in Amsterdam and not carry another camera, like tourist's do.

A pic from my old mobile, set on macro, with a flash/light on. (Sony Ericsson)

I'm upgrading to a new phone soon with a better camera on it and hope it will OK with the results, fingers crossed. Anyone got the HTC Desire yet? That's the one I'm getting.

EDIT: apologies for causing the side scrolling due to the size of the pic I posted below, especially if you're on laptops. (It's Cheese BTW, if you were wondering)
