Where did you stay in Amsterdam???
1st trip to Dam we left it up to one of my mates to book everything and arrived at his house on the morning of the trip to him saying he hadn't booked anything and it would be cheaper if we found something whilst there- bare in mind this was in July!
Luckily enough we managed to find a hostel called The Kabul- which in hindsight was a dump but for our 5 day mashup holiday was just perfect!Only prob was they could only put us up for 3 nights. So for the remainder we managed to get a quad room in Hotel Manofa- which was average.
2nd trip stayed a little further out which was better because we got to see much more of the city - at Hotel Bellington which was located in P.C Hoofstraat. A nice little hotel in a supposedly 'posh' area!lol. The breakfast was simple but affective.
For my next trip I am staying at Hotel Travel, will updat you as to what its like in 15 days time........

where we've been
hotel my home (aug'02/sept'03)haarlemerstraat- very basic 15e-25e pppn, cool lounge with tons of cd/dvd, sat tv and bongs. could buy good cheap weed here then(2g crystal 10e) off the owner chris, who will keep you playin pool all day if you let him.top man. recommended if you dont mind a prison bed to flop on.
hotel di-ann(3 stays between 05-07)raadhuisstraat. clean, friendly. small rooms but some have cool balconies looking across to westerkerk to the left and the back of the palace to the right. never had a problem with the green.got quoted 320e for 4 nights in dbl w/shower+wc plus balcony on 31st jan09
hotel nadia(feb 08) almost a mirror of the di-ann(other end of the same building) but a bit scruffier for same price.
euphemia(may'06)-off bottom of vijzelstraat. no way lads. a dump. told we could only smoke on fire exit stairs. fukin place looked like freddy kreugers boilerroom.
got an nice apt in june 07 just off the singel for 160p/n that slept 4. was run by hotel hoksbergen. only drawback was it didn't feel secure due to the back window, but nothin went so...
staying at the old quarter on warmoesstraat in 9 days, any craic?

I agree with Dave.Dave J wrote:I have to say I tend to stay at the Bulldog Hotel. Well it's cheap and chearfull and very clean in my oninion. Plus it does have a large bar where you can smoke your gear 24/7. I'd go as far as to say it's the best place you could get for your money if you dont mind sharing in a dorm that is.
There private rooms are a little over the odds compared to what you pay elsewere. But they are certainly clean and of better standard than many hotels out there of similar prices or more.
As I'm going on my own this oct\nov I will likely be it in the dorm in the Bulldog again to save me a fair bit of Euros for the finer things that Amsterdam has to offer.
I went to the Bulldog on trip #2 and haven't had cause to try anywhere else since.
Clean, reasonable, smoker friendly and excellent staff (really can't say enough about them, they're super). Very centrally located.
'Highly' recommended.

Re: Don't stay at the Swissotel if you smoke weed
smoked every night in the swissotel off the damrak. 600ng per night, you bet i was tokin'FloridaPothead wrote:We stayed at the Swissotel - great locations, terrific rooms, and...an archaic cannabis clause - no weed on the premises. Well, I never smoked in the room, in every nearby coffeeshop and in tons of abandoned alleys - when you need a joint at 3...you go where you must. Nice hotel otherwise.
Donkey smell.
never had any trouble smoking here and yes, the views are nice!Bhang Buddie wrote:Stayed here http://www.estherea.nl/ in the week between last Crimble and New Year, well tasty - however NOT smoker friendly, but well recomended. Was on the top floor, so it was an open window job, with an excellent view and with Kadinsky's just around the cornerme and my lady had a really nice time

Flying pig Downtown, it was clean, cheap and friendly staff, infact made friends with a member of staff and he took me and a friend to a squater club thing after he finished his shift, was pretty cool metal screamo and hardcore type bands were playing.
Like a Rock Like a Planet Like a Fucking Atom Bomb
ive posted about the pig too many times, in short, its a good clean place to stay, that is once again smoker friendly, and worth the moneynehctik wrote:Flying pig Downtown, it was clean, cheap and friendly staff, infact made friends with a member of staff and he took me and a friend to a squater club thing after he finished his shift, was pretty cool metal screamo and hardcore type bands were playing.

I've stayed at the Hotel Beursstraat a couple of times - very cheap, but with en-suite facilities... No brekky, but at the price, you cannae argue. Good location too. Big thumbs up, but not bookable online as far as I've found. Would happily stay here again, but for the fact that I like to book in advance whenever possible, rather than just turning up and hoping...
Hotel Di-ann - great vibe, good facilities - en-suite, safe and a fridge. Good brekky - well recommended, especially if you get a balcony room (perfect for toking). Clean and very friendly. Luggage storage.
Hotel Aspen - not bad, but shared shower/toilet. No brekky, but good price. Clean room. Friendly staff.
Dam Hotel - great location, en-suite and breakfast (well, they called it breakfast)... I ate elsewhere after first two mornings, but room clean and it had a lift!!!
"Hotel" (Read "shit-hole") Quentin Arrive. I'd rather chew off my own arm than stay here again. Absolute shite. Sleeping in Centraal Station with some bull-buggering-bastard spooning you all night would be preferable. Just say no.
Hotel Vijaya - great. En-suite, brekky(good), friendly staff and good location. Recommended. Been here a few times now and am returning May 12th-15th once more. Discount on food in restaurant for guests - had a curry here the first time... not bad at all!
I'm getting too long in the tooth now to be sharing rooms with other people (that I don't know), and shower/toilet facilities I find are better when you don't have to wait ages for either (Hotel Aspen) or you don't want to catch some unpleasant communicable diseases (Quentin Arrive) - the very first time I came to Amsterdam I had to stay in a hostel room on the 1st night due to arriving late at night and finding nowhere else with suitable rooms - was woken every hour by people coming and going... not an experience I'd care to repeat.
These days, I'd rather spend a little extra and have a few basic comforts...
I can't stress enough what an absolute disgrace the Quentin Arrive was - the room wouldn't lock from inside, only one shower between 3 floors (and someone had shat down the drainhole - possibly because the toilet had been smashed up), puke (and possibly worse) stains on every landing, and the most ignorant staff I've ever come across. Security was a joke - you could just walk in off the street and tell whoever was on "reception" a room number (no names required, and it was a different person each time) and a key was duly delivered to you. Great. I nearly reached the point of packing my bag every day and taking it with me to ensure I'd keep hold of my belongings. AVOID.

Nice one Boner!
I knew if anyone could find it, it would be you, fella...
I think I came across this meself quite a while back, but was surprised at how much extra the rooms were compared to when I'd booked the place direct and so neglected to bookmark it - then I realised I was completely battered...
and I hadn't accounted for the fact that there was two of us the first time I stayed there, so the room was a hell of a lot cheaper than it would have been for me on me own!!! Doh.
I've bookmarked that link now bud - the next trip I book with one of me mates, I'll try them first - single room costs the same as a twin, so if there's two of us, it works out cheaper than the twin rooms at the Vijaya;
Single room at Vijaya when I fly out in May is €210, twin €295, but €222 at Beursstraat for either!
I also forgot to add Hotel France to my list - not one I'd be going back to either, I'm afraid. The room itself was ok, apart from the lack of any form of daylight, due to it not having any windows...
In the middle of summer, this was no fun at all... Quite expensive too, from what I can hazily recall, considering the "quality" of this 3star hotel <ouch>! Beurrsstraat beats it, hands down.
Nice one.

This place does online booking for the Beurstraat as well: http://www.lowcostbeds.com/
