Ibis ~ Next to train station but that didn't stop me sleeping I'd stop again for the right money.

Crowne Plaza ~ Nice big hotel and after swapping rooms I was happy I'd stop again but like the Ibis for the right money.

Botel ~ I loved stopping here only downside I stopped on the wrong side should of chosen the city view, they also have a free porn channel! ;)

Rho ~ OK I've stopped here 3 times and nearly on my 4th (roll on sunday) the location is fantastic, the breakfast ample, no problem smoking weed there, fridge in the room (make sure you ask for the fridge and not the mini-bar) ample sized room for the money as well.

Outside of Amsterdam I've stopped at the Sativa in Haarlem which for the money (€45 a night) can't complain, shared facilitys but what better way to start the day brekkie with a spliff!

I've also stopped at the Amadeus in Haarlem which was a really nice room at the top overlooking the Grote Markt but the hotel stank of sewers and going in the lift made me heave once or twice so I wouldn't stop there again.

We also stopped at a Hotel Suite in Haarlem (I forget the name but I'll find the website and edit this post later) which was brilliant, the only downside being the proper dutch steps to get up and down to the suite very steep!

Last but not least a hotel that I stopped in in Delft which was sound, right above a bar that does amazing steaks and nice Heiny's (Billy Bear's the name of the Eetcafe) I haven't the foggiest of the name of the hotel though?

Edit: I've also stopped in Volendam and Marken but I wouldn't stop at either again as they are only accesible by road (bus or car) Volendams worth day-tripping to see a nice old dutch town.

I can 2nd the amstel botel! i stayed there for 5 nights myself & the place was good,I to didnt have a view of "prins hendrikkade" either boner :( ,& i did notice there porn channel @ night! the dutch like the hard stuff lol.

They had cannabis leaves in a no entry sign in the rooms when I stopped there but just walking down the hallway you could smell it so I blazed away without any problems, I wouldn't choose to stop there now though as it's over on the North side.

we stayed at hotel Manofa. We chose this at first due to excellent location and it's very cheap price. A 2 night stay in a twin room was 85 euro - of course being middle of Jan helped us on that front.

After we had booked it I started to read online reviews and quite frankly I started to worry. Reports of weird homeless ppl roaming the corridors, mice everywhere, rude staff etc. Luckily we experienced none of this at all. Guess it pays to research first not after you book up :P

We arrived before due check in time but the woman at reception was really nice and sorted us out with a room in no time. The reception was 24 hour but we had those card keys anyway. The room its self was very basic. The light switch was shady as hell and had to be pressed in a certain way to keep it on. The view was over some crack alley (ok there was no crackheads there but looked a perfect spot for them.) And the shower was either freezing or scolding - I overcame this by pointing shower at wall and using the slightly cooler rebound water. All of this didn't bother me.

To me though these were minor points. I care not for luxury - a dry bed where I can get wasted and not spend much cash is all I look for when on these kind of trips. We were told we could smoke in the room and judging by the amount of spliff ends and fag butts outside the window we didn't need to bother asking

I would definitely go back there but only in low season - I checked prices for high season and at those prices I would rather kip on a bench

Golden Tulip Apollo Hotel-

awesome location-metting of 5 canals, gorgeous views, quiet neighborhood away from the crowds, yet only 10-15 minutes away from central station by tram.

Nice AC in room but no AC in the hallways/lobby area

Weird shower with a half glass door that doesn't slide, so that water splashes everywhere- very strange.

As far as smoking- the staff told us if they "find anything", there's a fine of 250 Euros- ouch! But as long as you open the windows, don't blow smoke at the fire alarm, and clean up your ashes everytime you leave the room, you'll be fine. Use the "Wonton Method" I adopted:

Wet some toilet paper, wipe up your makeshift ashtray/plastic container, take another piece of tissue and ball it up, like a wonton. Throw into the toilet and flush----no sign, no fine!

Hotel Bellevue near Centraal Station
Nice modern hotel with a great staff. Paid 60E a night for a single room en-suite, was upgraded to a double on arrival. Not smoker friendly but Resin was a 3 minute walk. Damn, I hope they finish the renovation soon and reopen!

Hotel Terminus behind the Beurs van Berlage
Okay hotel, picked it mainly for location and price 55E a night single en-suite; had an elevator but then some crazy stairs as well
simple but adequate breakfast including in room rate

Townhouse Hotel on the Prinsengracht
Wanted to stay in a quieter part of town; paid 50E a night for a single en-suite; location was great 10 mins to Rembrandtplein and several pubs around; found a great record store down the street and it was huge; smoker friendly if you opened the window

NH Carlton by the Bloemenmarkt
Nice hotel with a great location; paid 45E a night via priceline bid; upgraded to a twin smoking superior for free; skipped the 20E breakfast; my new favorite hotel as long as I can get that price again!

I used priceline.com to bid for the hotel. The cheapest way for a 4 or 5 star hotel in Amsterdam!

As did I, Priceline had a vacation package for back in July (14-21) I got that one for me and my girlfriend and I believe it was around 800 per person. Very nice hotel, if you havent been to Amsterdam and you look at this place on the map your thinking, oh crap I am so far from everything, when in reality you are right in the heart of it all. Right out the hotel lobby you cross the street and take a left go up to the corner after the McD's and bahda bing bahda boom, Rokerij III, The Bushdocter, and The Saints, are all in the general viscinity. Rokerij III is a solid first coffee shop too... try the Jack Herer (MMMMMMM).

I have stayed in many hotels around the city with Estherea being the best of the bunch and takes preference to anything else when the missus is in tow.

Other enjoyable ones have been
Die Port van Cleve (Top floor suite) Loved it
Victoria (A few times)
Terminus (A few times)
Botel (Many times at its old location)
GHE (Loved the place even though it was shared bathroom)
Armada Canalview (Location for me on this one)
These have been the better places and here is the worst of the bunch.
The Veteran (First ever place i stopped, was one of the worst)
Euphemia (Very close to MY but what a shit hole)
Hotel Season star (Get me out of here QUICK)
Damrak Hotel (For 2 hours then i walked, proper shit hole)
All the others that i have stayed in are average hotels for amsterdam (IMO)

WINTER TIME YOU GET SOME GREAT DEALS ON HOTELS ESPECIALLY THE TOP ONES!!

But this trip i will be back in one of Niels Apartments, hopefully the one on the Spui (If he lets me toke in it this time) and even better if he has got that Damn Jacuzzi working.
