I remember back in 76 it was Dillinger "Cocaine in my brain" and Donna Summer "I feel love " that seemed to be playing all over town.
Last year 2 by Peter Bjorn John -"Amsterdam" and "The Chills" 8)

Amsterdam by Guster

My friend's band likes to plays this and I always have this kind of home-sick feeling when I hear it.

The Dutchman sung by Steve Goodman
I got to meet him many years ago. VERY nice guy ! He had a HUGE talent
He passed away many years ago from Leukemia

I sing it every time I am in the city and remember Steve
Always dreaming of the "Motherland"

First thing i thought when i saw this thread.
A while ago someone(boner?) posted a link to a HD vid of 'dam on Vimeo. The track on that was perfect. Portishead, possibly j'oublie.

Kevin Ayers - stranger in blue suede shoes.

Its old school, but possibly the best stoner song of all time. I got into this when I first started going out to the dam in the early 80's, and for me the spirit of the song perfecty captures the spirit of Amsterdam.
