Hi there Bilbo

The hotel does sound a bit on the expensive side - is this the hotel you and your wife have your heart set on? If not, I would have a little hunt around on expedia - some bargains to be had there....

As for the RLD I would take a stroll through on a morning or afternoon but evenings can be a little rowdy. It is actually a very beautiful part of the city, but as people have already mentioned, I would stay away from the alleyways.

My boyfriend and I don't smoke either but we sample cakes etc. Abraxas do a mean hash muffin and bonbons - they're worth a try.

Ahh we just miss you - we're going out on June 12. Have a wonderful trip. :)

Thanks folks--will take on all your suggestions---good forum this---I,ve been wanting a decent forum since my hang out for years Overgrow got raided by the mounties and shut down. Good mix of nationalities and a reassuring lack of nutjobs, think I'm going to like it here

Anyway I Know £650 is most definately a bit on the pricy side, but give me a break guys ( and gals) I'm married and trying to do a balancing act here, my good wife of 30 years is a great lady and would be put off any further visits to the Dam if, on her first visit she encountered any sleaziness. Dont get me wrong shes a 70's chick at heart and when we first met we hung out in some pretty wild psychedelic dungeons and got off on some way out music and all but it is only recently that our youngest has fled the nest and we are revelling in our new found freedom, if we get this trip right and have a good time I can see her desperate to get back on a regular basis. So its important to get things right this first time. Shes kind of Hung on the Park Hotel website which looks pretty posh.

So without worrying too much about a hundred pounds or so it would pay in the long run to encourage her to mentally associate going to Amsterdam with being cossetted a bit and generally being pampered and all that stuff, so as you see hehe I have ulterior motives here, I dont enjoy as much as I used to the package beach holiday scene and am een to visit some ordinary places--Amsterdam being at the top of the list and hopefully a regular visitor.

We have booked our flights and now are waiting a couple of weeks till wages day before booking and paying for our hotel.

Edgar Allen Poe lol --- as I recall he was a total nutjob.

Reading a lot of the posts here I am a little concerned about the recurring theme of people visiting a coffeshop and being harrassed to buy weed, buy a drink, and even having done so being approached every ten minutes and more or less told to buy drinks or get out so the table can be used by others, I like a wee drink too but I'd end up under the table if I had to down a beer every ten minutes, what I am looking for is a place I can hang out for a couple of hours drink two or three drinks and have an easy time without feeling pressured to go on a bender.

Thye two coffeeshops which have popped up on my radar after reading a lot of the reviews ( not as many 2010 reviews as I would like ) are Basjoes and 420 I think ( The one that plays rock music and a lot of Frank Zappa) lots of others sound great but what do you guys think--what shop plays good music in the 60s/70,s mould and is a hassle free hang out ?

ps--edit---I know I just got here and have no right to ctiticize any part of the site--but I tend to ignore any coffeeshop reviews from as way back as say 2004--Im sure things have changed out of all recognition since then, so I tend to just read the reviews from the last couple of years.

Bilbo -

I think there is now a law on the books there you can't serve booze and weed at same place - I think there might be a shop or two that has figured a way around it - but the drinks you'd buy most likely would be soft drink, coffee, tea or milkshake - i've heard they are the bomb!!

I hear you on wanting to stay somewhere clean and with nicer facilities. Look in to some b&B in dam - might be nice choice for you. We are staying at one near train station that is about 780 for 6 nights - with full breakfast - has wonderful reviews too - if you want name pm me - i'll let you know.

I'm waiting on the whole lot of people reporting on 4/20 trip for updated reviews and ideas for strains to try :) we should be pretty updated after then

welcome to the forum - i'm new too :)

You may find it no more expensive to rent an apartment than a hotel room.
Check this site out. Has some great apartments.
My wife and I all most always do it this way as you can save by cooking your own meals, etc.

Ty guys--been hanging out in here for a couple of hours a night and think its a great site

can anyone tell me how to get to the '' Whos In Town '' page for June that FlyByNite was so kind to mention a few posts ago I cant seem to find it anywhere on any of the site.

Also Thinking over my plans for getting wasted while I'm away I have decided to by a bulk deal from somewhere almost as soon as I get there--of something pretty common but good--what springs to mind is something old fashioned like Northern Lights--the plan being to sample some of the more fancy strains--the only known strains I have ever tried is Northern Lights, Skiunk number one--and Bubblegum ( Is there one called bubblegum ?)------the general plan being to roll this bulk deal for general out and about / hotel smoking, and to sample the fancier stuff gram at a time in the coffeeshops where I buy it.

So can anyone recommend a decent bulk deal anywhere

Enjoying your posts folks

Bilbo this is FBN's new site where you will find the Who's in Town page.
http://www.my420online.com/

Not sure what you mean by " buying in bulk ", but the most a c.s can sell you at a time is 5 gms.

Hunters Coffeshop https://www.coffeeshopdirect.com/Hunters.html have good discounts on 5 gram deals. As do Anayday https://www.coffeeshopdirect.com/Anyday.html .

Both the Menues can be found on Fly By Nights site. I've posted them here for you.

Hi Bilbo, and welcome.

My wife and I are heading to Dam next week for our second trip. We saw lots of the city last year, and really want to sample the coffeeshop culture this time round.

Anyway, in terms of your request for live music, someone one here (I think) recommended a place called Bourbon Street to me. I don't know what it will be like, but might be worth a try, or at least a google...

Oh, and I really want to try the eel sandwich. I was really disappointed that I didn't get round to it last time, but I'm a bit of a "foodie" so really up for it. Smoked eel is awesome, certainly not what you'd expect, so I'm hoping this will be similar.

Have fun =)

I tried the Take Away Bag from Hunters for the first time last week. Weather was finally nice so I took the convertible out for a spin and rolled 2 nice joints with some of that stuff. It was more like powder so I sprinkled it in with weed and it was the best high I've had in a long time. Only smoked one, that was all I needed.

I'll definitely try it again; it's like mixing different weeds together, which is usually more potent. I have a friend in California who always has great weed, has been smoking forever, and he mixes his strains together all the time when he wants more potency.

Bilbo - Music in CSes seems to be somewhat hit and miss ,depending on who's on duty...our 1st visit to 420 we walked into Lovely Rita ,which was followed by Itchikoo Park ...next visit was a Doors set ...so music wise they may be what you're lookin for ...Basjoes is really eclectic , but never too loud ,its often a couples crowd there ,and James keeps it down...Have enjoyed both Hill St. Blues musically...remember an early Stones set at the one by the Market ....Yo-Yo may suit you as well , just to sit out and enjoy the street ,nice vibe ...Katsu and De Graal in de Pijp may work for you as well ...I remember last year hitting the dam on the 4th of July and it seems everywhere we went that day was a Dylan / Joan Baez sorta folky thing goin down .
If I'd gotten a Euro one year for every time I heard that Amy Winehouse song -I'm no good - or whatever all over the NL we'd have been flying free this year ...Siberie can be nice ....lots of Reggae most everywhere ...Tweedy comes to mind for that
NES is usually very good musically, with a cool crew and crowd ...tell DC you like the Who ...(If you do)...If our plans progress as we're hoping ,we'll be there for part of your stay . Haven't booked the air yet but the plans to arrive June 8. and be over jetlag in time to cheer the USA on to Victory over England ..

Thanks so much for the very helpful posts--very interesting menu there from twitchaldino

I must admit to being a bit old school in my approach to hash, now when I was a lad eg 1982 ish it was a bit simpler you had a choice of 3----black leb or moroccan Morrocan was £15 a quarter ounce, Leb was £20 and black was £25 a quarter ounce ( 7 grams ) 7 grams is almost exactly the weight of a 2 pence piece by the way and thats how we judged if the deal was the right weight. Anyway I reminisce, I remeber the '' black '' we used to get in the early 80s sometimes had a gold foil covering which had Arabic lettering on it, this stuff was the dogs bollocks as I recall. later in the 80s there was black '' border hash '' on the go which came wrapped in red cellophane ( This was imported I believe by Mr Nice aka Howard Marks ) and it was pretty good as well.

Anyway looking at that menu from hunters, I am intrigued by the likes of '' Bombay Black '' is this perhaps a descendant of these hashes from yesteryear ????--probably not as the bombay black at hunters is only 8 euros a gram and is one of the cheapest on the menu, any old timers out there remember the old time black--if so what is the modern equivelant called---and where can I buy it ?

I think Im just going to miss the world cup which is probably a good thing as it will as always take over everything in its path---during the world cup music will be turned of in the coffeeshops to accomodate the footy fans--I like my football myself but listening to music when stoned beats watching the football in my book.

Being a Scot I am not going to be drawn into an ambush by stating a preference regarding Englans chances.

Im also a bit naive when it comes to all the weed types you get---I've only ever tried northern lights and skunk number one--any other weed i smoked just came in a bag with no name.

anyway ty for all the posts--keep em coming--roll on June

The Bombay Black from Hunter's is really good for the price, very soft and sticky, and the effects are quite good

Thats an interesting street cam link you got in your sig there adamster--ive been kind of watching it for a while--and its a mystery to me that there are any Amsterdammers still left alive----this lot seem to think its cool to just walk out in front of any car and assume that the car will stop----and the car drivers just accept it---if that was good ol blighty the road rage would kick in, yet the car just stop and let the people walk on--seemingly oblivious to any danger
