FenixNYC recently did a trip report with some fantastic pics of his visit, and one in particular jumped out at me its a hash from Basjoes called Himalayan ... Could anyone tell me if they have tried this hash, is it a regular part of Basjoes menu and is it any good, in appearance alone it is fantastic

i have not tried the himalayan hash from basjoe, but i have tried several of the basjoe hash offerings and recommend paying a little more for the cream special ... it is a manali cream-type hash and is so dreamy

if you like moroccan hashish, then i recommend the basjoe royal hash

OK heres another daft rookie question, but as my jaunt to Amsterdam is looming fast, I am concerned about a couple of basics

When you go up to the budtender and order your choice, does he take the smokable bud off the main bud and sell you that ? reason I ask is I was watching some of Blueberry's indispensible coffeeshop weed menu videos and couldnt help noticing that although most strains featured are no doubt wonderful smokes there is a fair bit of branches in the tub---I would be a bit miffed if I got a couple of grams and there was a large branchy log taking up a fair percentage of the weight.

And if a budtender puts a hefty branch into your deal is it unreasonable to complain, and what is their attitude like if you have the temerity to whinge about what they give you

I know it seems daft but its wee things like this I am worried about, Even though I will be there in six days time my lifelong experience with weed is that you have to be on your toes to avoid getting ripped off

Usually they will try and grab a bud or buds that are close to the amount you want, then will top it off with a little shake.

Just say thank you, but no thank you and leave. It happened to me at Blues Bros, budtender said he doesn't break up buds for single grams.

Usually it's not a problem, in fact at Hunter's will probably ask you first!

That would depend partly on the size of the buds. If yer buying a gram, say, then the budtender will typically find a couple of small nugs and top it off with shake. If there are no small nugs or shake, then he/she will break a larger bud apart and go from there.

As for branches, the weed arrives fairly well trimmed so that's not usually an issue at all. Every big cola however, is going to have a stem inside of it so in many cases it's unavoidable, especially if yer after an entire cola, as many people are, especially the users on this board.

Well, I guess that would depend on the individual budtender and the type of day they're having... If you feel that yer being ripped off, then squawk by all means. However, as mentioned above, the weed is typically manicured so that excessive stems aren't generally a problem. Chances are that the budtender is nearly as knowledgeable as you about weed and won't try to sell you a load of wood. Put it this way, I haven't felt that any of the weed I've bought in the Dam was overly twiggy. Underweight bags are another story.

Same way as I deal with my drycleaner if he tries to pull a fast one. YMMV. If yer rude to the budtender, then it's not likely that he/she will feel kindly towards you.

Pointing at and requesting a particular bud is FINE. Just DON'T TOUCH the weed or else the budtender may object, as you're shaking off valuable trichomes. As mentioned before, a lot of people feel impelled to buy a giant cola just because it's a beautiful thing, and are willing to pay for it. For that reason, the budtenders try to keep larger buds whole. As for myself, I have no problem with buying shake so long as there are a few good buds left in the tub for me to ascertain the quality and consistency of the weed. If yer concerned about twiggy weed, then maybe this is the way to go for you. After all, shake is just as potent as a whole bud and maybe a little more, because of loose trichomes that have fallen off.

Much obliged, 6 days now, beginning to refine my agenda, I want to try some of the strains that are being bandied around

One of these is Casey Jones--I Have Grey Area as possibly the place to get this, anyone disagree ?

Also Black Widow which is Katsu, possibly exclusivly ?

Also some of the hazes but I think I will seek local advice on these as they are everywhere.

I will have around 300E in the back of my wallet for my personal weed budget for the 5 days so if I budget this out it sould allow me maybe 4-5 grams a day to get by on. I know some of you folks on here will consider me a lightweight with such a modest intake but it seems like a hell of a lot to me.

Plan to maybe start things off with a 3 to 5 gram deal somewhere which will give me a good stash to puff away on without doing the connosseur routine. a good honest basic strain which will serve as a benchmark to which anything else will be compared, I know its sounds dinosaurish but Ive always had a great kick out of good old skunk, any recommendsations on this , maybe not skunk but something like shunk/ nl/blueberry-----where is a good 5g deal of decent no frills smokable weed ?

I'm with SS67 on this one. I no longer feel like I have anything to prove by mad smoking. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy trying new strains, but when I'm on holiday, I prefer to stroll instead of racing from shop to shop for the latest craze. Also, I like to do other stuff, like visit 300 year-old bruin cafes. I'm quite happy with 2-3 grams per day, particularly if I'm smoking out of a pipe. With €300, I'm certain you'll find that you've over-budgeted for weed/hash.

When I first started going to the dam 15 years ago, I had the same thought as you, that is, to lay in a 5g supply of weed at the beginning. After 2 or 3 trips, I found that I wasted a lot of money this way as I was caught up in buying new strains and neglected my 5g stash. As a result, I usually gave away a bunch of it by the end.

However if you're intent on pursuing this route, I can give you some suggestions for a bulk buy. The most well known deal can be had at the Noon or Mellow Yellow, which share ownership: 4g of blueberry for €23. Back when I first started buying this, the Noon's blueberry was phenomenal, delicious stuff. I've bought it on occasion since then only to find it a shadow of its former glory, but it's still a cheap, tasty weed.

Blueberry, who's a longtime poster on Channels and recently on this board, used to buy the same strain herself. On her last trip, she purchased 5g of white widow from Anyday for €33,60 after being impressed by it. This is probably your best option as it's easy to get to in the Centrum, and I can't think of a better strain than WW that would serve as a baseline. I would like to try that myself.

If you're willing to travel far from the Centrum, you could go to Boere Jongens where they have a terrific variety of lesser known strains for €6,50/g. I don't know if they offer a bulk discount, but it would be sweet if they do. A lot of people on this board have praised the White Choco and Boerejack from there.

Also some of the hazes but I think I will seek local advice on these as they are everywhere.

Yer prolly right in seeking out advice from your local budtender re: hazes. Personally, I enjoyed the Dampkring's Mexican Haze -- spicy smoke with a diamond bright, crystal clear high. I favored it over the Grey Area's equatorial sativa which was getting all the buzz. Also underrated IMHO is the Amnesia Haze from Mellow Yellow which goes for a paltry €8/g.

I think I heard that Greenplace also had some Casey Jones, if I see some while I'm there in the next few days I'll let you know. I'm thinking that it will be fun to smoke some ECSD, Trainwreck, and Casey side by side. (Casey Jones is EC Sour Diesel X Trainwreck).

I was surprised to hear you say that you will start with a big bulk deal if you are only smoking 5 g a day (which I would also call medium weight btw). I recommend picking a gram or two of whatever looks good when you enter a coffeeshop, and if something is really good buy a few more grams on the way out. That way you get a good sample of what each coffeeshop has, you never feel hassled about not buying a shop's smoke, and you get to try more bud- which is part of the best part in Amsterdam. Plus you won't run into weed fatigue.

A few shops I would recommend for you and your wife: (No seediness, nice atmosphere)- Amnesia, Barney's and Barney's Lounge, Greenhouse Lounge

You should never buy if you think a budtender is giving you crap or stems, but you also don't have to be rude or confrontational about it. A simple, "No Thanks, I've changed my mind." Works great. If you look in a bin of bud and it seems like theirs a lot of crap in there but you still want some, just pick out a whole bud. Sure it might be 1.5 g instead of 1, but live a little.

The White Choco from Dampkring2 is a good bet at the moment, Valo's over there and he's reccomending it, worth a look at 8-8.50e agram.

Enjoy your trip Bilbo,getting close ,had the Casey Jones at Green Place recently and it was lovely,a nice high and a distinct flavour,(12 Euro i think)will be back for more for sure in August.I read you only have a few "binges" a year due to work,so 5 grams of goodness should do ya sweet,i'm about 6 or 7 and always nicely baked,if not plenty budget there fella,looking forward to hearing your report.Peace,Embraman

Thanks Embraman, geeky, titus--everybody---we went and got our euros tonight and thats me got my 300E stash in the back of my wallet--my wife has 750E in her purse and thats for day to day drinks meals, shopping and all other non weed related items, so we should have plenty of money for our basic needs

For pictures- my best suggestions are-

1- natural light and no flash. ideally the light will be cutting across the bud perpendicular to the direction that you are photographing as opposed to straight behind or in front of you.

2- Zoom as much as your camera will and still focus then prop your elbow on the table to steady your hand (an impromptu tripod effect)

3- Get down near the table and take the picture from an angle. Shots from directly above are usually pretty crappy.
