In the shade of the Dutch Cap 24th-31st March 2010

OK this time have some pics and words. Not so many weed pics this time cos I'm crap at taking them even with an 8mp camera. Got some more menu pics which flybynite is welcome to use for the menu section of the

site.

http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/101539469 ... directlink

Flew into the dam on a very pleasent afternoon. My hotel was close to Mellow Yellow - Hotel Asterisk - 118 eu for a 2 nite stay during a very busy 2 days in the city for hotel rooms. Apparently there was a big
avionics show on in town which had caused all central hotels to triple their prices.Would not stay at the Asterisk again. Actually leaning toward renting an apartment next time I'm in town as the ability to be able to smoke freely in your own space and then go and do fun stuff outside coffeeshops seems to be worthwhile for a variety of reasons....

Mellow Yellow was my 1st port of call. Bought some chocolope, rolled (did not smoke) and left for a lovely stroll through the museum/antique area of town. Having a beer in the sunshine in March in Amsterdam was a
real bonus considering the weather in the UK outside that day was more more condusive to taking a shower. It was 16 degrees in Amsterdam and positively tropical! This may sound wierd but I wanted to get to the T&T that night at NES before getting stoned so that I wouldn't be a drooling stoned wreck upon meeting everyone.
Also went to Coffeeshop Little (a different day) which is almost next door to Mellow Yellow and very easy to miss. I used the internet for about 3 hours. Had the Big Buddha cheese probably although I can't even remember so probably not great.

Not wanting to be late for stu's vape party at the NES that weekend I rushed around looking for an internet place to check this site for the time and place and also a smart shop to grab some papers/lighter/grinder/pipe etc. After much rushing about and gnashing of teeth I walked into NES right on time to find the party in full swing. The first thing I noticed was the large tub of space cakes on the table. Didn't know it was Stu's birthday party. Wish I'd brought him a card now! At least we had lots of cake. It was only when I saw the large plastic baggie full of pre rolled pure weed joints that I began to get scared! Was I going to make it out of the Nes alive? Is it possible to overdose on weed?
I don't smoke at all outside the Netherlands so just a tiny bit of that strong bio weed they have there is enough to send me onto cloud 9 most of the time. Also with only 1gram of weed on me I felt totally unprepared.
This was my 1st ever T&T. Next time I vowed to be better prepared

The thing that became clear through the clouds of smoke was that this was a whole new level of smoking carnage. Something that I had not seen the like of before even in my youth. Was I going to back off and miss this evening now? No chance. DC bought me my 1st beer on the house and went over to make introductions. Many thanks to DC for being very cool and for the ico o later hash too. More on that later.
What a great night though. Had a fantastic time and the NES is just a really really good bar. The best I've been to in amsterdam and I've been to a few (hic).

Best hash of the trip was DC's iceolator. Amazing stuff that really opened my eyes about a whole new level of high. It was almost scary.
Had the Durban Poison from Anyday and some hash from somewhere else. Don't really know what to do with hash really. It clogs up my pipe. It falls out of my bong bowl. Can I just eat it? Does it have to be in a cake
to work? My big plan was to buy a load of outdoor and pep it up with hash.
Anyday is a really nice coffeeshop. Very friendly and helpful budtender and a cool upstairs smoking area with vape bong thingies
on each table. For me it is a clearly superior coffeeshop to most in the area including HGF for instance. However the weed itself was not something I remember too well (might have been Jack Herer - sativa right?) so either I only bought hash or it was not great.
So I went to Samerterang and bought a load of Ghanian(3g 10eu) and Durban outdoor(3g 10eu) and decided to try it 1st without the hash. What a great smoke! I think it was the Ghanian. Really mellow and not too
strong at first. The high kept on coming and really liked the fact it was not too sudden. So I finally realised my mission had been to find some crappy weed and put my hash into it? Hmm seemed like an oddball plan so i binned it and ended up rolling the durban poison hash into a big sausage and putting it in a cheese joint from HGF. I was like 'this will get me stoned' I'm sure it did. If only I could remember what happened next.

My favorite weed of the trip was the Dolphin house special. Really good heavy hard stone AND high. Really punched hard in both categories. Something I've not experienced very much before. The high kept on
pushing higher similar to good Blueberry Cheese and the stoned really hit all across the body in a good way similar to good cheese type smokes.Smoked smooth in the vape and was available for 40eu for 5g.
Tastewise from a joint it was probably it weakest point although it wasn't that bad in that respect and most likely my own meagre rolling skills coupled with the fact I smoke pure probably doesn't help the taste factor. It actually tastes like it is going to be strong if you know what I mean. The other thing is it leaves little or no 'stoneover' so you can do stuff the next morning no problem.....

Other weed. Blueberry cheese from Greenplace not as good as I remembered it.
LSD from Amnesia was really really strong stuff. Bit trippy I thought. The headband was a real disappointment. did not feel the headband around my head at all. Loads more weeds were smoked and if I remember any of them I will post again. Really sketchy on memories for this trip and especially on conversations I'd had with folks. Anyone else get this? what do you do to combat it besides the un thinkable possibility of smoking less weed!

Paradox is a really nice and friendly coffeeshop. Enjoyed talking to a local ex pat who was considering leaving his life in the dam after 11 years for a job in London.Actually can't remember what I smoked there I'm afraid. Hope it will come to me soon. Nice relaxing place tho. Bought hash there and not sure about weed. Was not crazy about their menu although in the more local type places they don't tend to jazz up the menu the same way they do in the Centrum.
Basjoe special continues to be a really nice consistant weed. Had a great time at Stuarts T&T in Basjoe's. Smoked a nice big joint. 1.5g of Strawberry kush was it? Good rolling skills from PW made a nice big cone
although the effects of the joint itself were quite disappointing. The Basjoe's special was better.
Coffeeshop 137 stopped in here to buy and fly. Menu pic included. Seemed like a nice clean smart shop. No tobacco. Had house vapes and outdoor seating in a nice location on a canal. Would go back. Was friendly
too.
HGF - Cheese not great. Shared a red diesel joint in there with a couple of American blokes I'd got chatting to and it knocked the socks off the Cheese. I think he had got it from either Hunters or Grey Area. Possibly
Greenplace. Such a shame too as possibly the 2 most interesting folks I'd met on the whole trip was on my last day and I could not hear a lot of what one of the guys was saying in particular bacause he spoke so
quietly.
These days I'm getting in with the idea of chatting to random strangers in Amsterdam inside coffeeshops and bars etc. Why not? What's the worst that can happen? The results are radically different from person to
person and group to group. Often with (what I think are) hilarous consequences.
I chatted with English, Spanish, Dutch, Israeli (there were a lot of Israel people in town it seemed), German, Austrian (seemed to be lots of Austrians too), American, Canadian and amazingly enough no Australians
whatsoever. Usually it went well and folks want to socialise a bit but don't want to take the risk of starting up a convo (IMHO).

One memorable encounter was in Dolphins where somehow I got talking to a very large and incredibly intense (it turned out) young dutch guy near their row of vapes. He eventually informed me after learning I was
from UK that British culture had ruined the world. Ignoring some of the obvious contradictions that any sweeping statement can't help but avoid I enquired as to what culture would be better for the world to adopt. His
only answer was anyones but mine! Well I'm all for a spirited debate but not with a guy who looks to have a really large chip on his even bigger shoulder. Just allowing myself a hint of paranoia I'd say he might have had a chip on his shoulder or he might have been baiting me (stupid tourist) hoping for a rumble. Maybe he's right. Maybe British culture has ruined the world. I thought it was an interesting idea
worthy of discussion but at the same time that instinct that tells you to end a conversation cannot be ignored sometimes. Paranoia creeping in maybe? Just the luck of the draw perhaps when adopting such a strategy. Most of the time people were quite open and friendly.
So.... At this point I began to back away slowly with my arms half raised in a placatory gesture quietly mouthing my own personal brand of wishy washy liberal claptrap until I was at least out of the shade of his
enormous New York Yankees baseball cap. Do those really fancy baseball caps cost a lot of dosh? I think mine cost me 15 bucks but I'd never get into a rap video wearing it.

Anyhow to explain a couple of the photo's. I'm in love with the pirate woman. I think it might have been a comic shop in the Jordaan somewhere. The first bunch are from the train to centraal. Think I must have smoked some pretty strong sativa in Anyday cos I was jumping around taking pics there like a madman!
Had a bike for the whole week. It seemed like a lot of the time I was riding about exploring (ie Lost) and the rest of the time I really was lost and hoping that if I followed a canal it might lead someplace familiar. Would recomend hiring one now the weather is improving. It is surprisingly possible to ride one whilst stoned and more fun than I thought too.

What this trip did was play out amsterdam a little for me so that in the future I can
look to branch out into more varied and productive activities next time I'm there. I drank a lot less alchohol than usual and got about
a lot more as a result I think. Also I really really did not want to leave this time. Probably the sign of a good trip. Met a load of really interesting people on my final day. Always the way right? Finally I realised it didn't have to be about drunken stoned debauchery every night.....

Just most nights :P

Hey treetop,

Really enjoyed your report. You seemed to be walking around most of the time in a waking dream, or so I thought.

Kudos to you as well for the Anyday menu pics. I'm intrigued by their Honey Dew and Oaxacan.

Where did you get the Durban Poison?

Cheers :D
Everyone seems normal until you get to know them.

i got the Durban poison from Anyday. Had to be cos the pics match up. That is if you mean hash.

Hi PW - yeah I tried to contact to see if you wanted to do a bike coffeeshop crawl around town. nm maybe next time. I thought hiring a bike was a lot of fun except quite a few times especially in Centrum I totally forgot where I'd parked it and had to 'come down' a bit before I remembered.
