both the jewish historical museum and the portuguese synagogue are regular visits for the family during a trip to amsterdam ... good choices

question - did you visit the café at the jewish historical museum? … the smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel is divine and they have a uniquely amsterdam dessert - the ginger bolus which is made in amsterdam by the delicatessen Laromme (Kastelenstraat 69 1083 CC) … in summer the café is across the street from the museum and in winter it is inside the museum (you can go just to the café without having to pay the entrance fee - just ask at the ticket office and they will let you in)

if you are interested in the history of amsterdam during wwII, then I recommend both the dutch resistance museum (versetzmuseum) and the hollandsche schouwburg

SS67 - did not eat at that cafe, sounds wonderful though. Some day I'd like to go to the Resistance museum.

Stoned Shaman - Kind words, thanks!

grateful deb wrote: TO EVERYONE WHO WRITES UP A TR (AND ESPECIALLY LUVTICK) -I have sooo much respect for you all. This is hard to remember stuff and I am reading AJ's notes. Before we left, I made lists and pages of stuff to see and do. My notes are stapled together with all different topics and colored pens from so many different days of checking out info that I start calling them my unibomber notes. But it was this prep that really helped to prepare for the trip. Not that there wasn't any spontineity, plenty of that, but I had an agenda to make optimal use of time and it went awesome because of the trip prep.
Thanks, Deb. I'm flattered and a bit embarassed  I just write... 'Cuz I like to... And when it's a story you WANT to tell, it's that much easier.

I'm LUV'n the report! Write when you can...some days it took 8 hours to finish just one day's events! "Mommy can you...."

Great report so far- thanks for taking the time. We're headed back to the dam for my husband's 30th birthday party.

I told him about your 50th birthday trip and he promised that I would get one too. What a great idea!

You guys say the nicest things  8)

Will write soon, need to go and smoke something whilst I actually have the house to myself for a couple of hours. I could write but I'd rather get high with some friends. :P

It's fun to do some of the household stuff when baked!!

Actually I sometimes feel like I'm one of the kids around here, or at least that's how I act.

Thursday 3.25.10 -

I wake up real groggy, not from smoking but from drinking and staying up till 3AM. The time difference is messing with my sleep patterns. Oh well, I guess I need to get high! What time is it anyway? Seems to be a theme on this vacation, never knowing what time it is.

Our plans -AJ wants to see the Anne Frank Huis. I kinda do too, I've been avoiding it cause I know it's gonna be a bummer but it is necessary.

We go get bagels and coffee on Raadhuistraat near 99. Also need an ATM because Rik the owner is picking up the rent money. Quick, stop at Grey Area. WTF??!! Closed till 12 noon? Fucking stoner hours! I forgot they opened late (and closed early!). I'll get some later after the AFH, I'll need something fun to think about .

The Anne Frank Huis -what can I say? AJ's notes say it all, "Sobering - sad - sickening".

We look for the the Tulip Museum across the street. Figured this would help to lighten the mood. For some stoner reason, couldn't find it... (even though we saw it days later right where we were looking :) ).

AJ likes the trams so we get on one and go the Beginhoff houses. The courtyard is beautiful and so is the weather. (We lucked out for most of the week).
Image

I can't take it any more and we march over to Handboogstraat - Dampkring! I buy 2g of rifman habibi (my, this is absolutely lovely!) 2 g of SSH and something else. How sad, if I didn't write it down, I don't remember what I buy. I also buy 3 lighters for my husband out of the cool machine on the wall next to the bud counter. It's all grateful husband asked for - lighters. I better not show up without his lighters. The bud tender made fun of us cause now AJ has to buy a bunch. I now have about 9, 3 @from Grey Area, 420 and Dampkring. That should cover it.

We settle into a table after asking the couple seated there if they minded if we share. (To all you people in the coffeeshop etiquette section of the forum, that is how it's done. Simply, politely and to the point. Nice other bullshit in that topic BTW!! ). Those 2 people really couldn't care less that we sat with them. I knew they wouldn't.

Oh, that hash is exquisite!!! AJ loves it! So soft and I dream of that smell but it is heavy on the lungs. I'm having a GRATE time here! We get some drinks, an oj for me and a coke lite for AJ. She really likes it here so we hang for awhile. It's such a funky place . The cat is there and looking pissed off that someone is sitting on his stool. We smoke a lot and then we're off...

...to the Pancake Bakery. I really like this place even though it's gotten mixed reviews on the ACD. I've been before and I'm so hungry now. I wanted to go to Maoz but it's packed and we are not in the mood to drip felafel all over ourselves while standing on the sidewalk. We need a proper vacation lunchspot! We check out the Flower Market and Dutch Flowers -too packed. My apple, bacon, swiss pancake is to die for. AJ agrees that this is a good choice. About 50 high school girls on a tour come in and sit in the back as we are finishing up. Timing is everything!

Back to 99 after roaming around for awhile. We are meeting Mary later so we have to rest up. She is intense and lots of fun. (AJ says that she needs to be darted!) . We are Mary's "important clients" again tonight. Thank you Mary, you're the best! Saved me a bit of cash so I now I can purchase more goodies! Not like money was going to stop me  .

I know that Barney's Uptown is having half priced drinks for Ladies night tonight so off we go. I had a margherita and a joint. Mary and AJ like it here. We smoke awhile and then go to Tuscaninis.

Image

We have a 9 PM reservation and we arrive 15 minutes early so Mary orders a bottle of wine. We are seated and we order. Our app's come but where is our dinner? We waited 45 minutes and the waitress keeps saying 3 more minutes. An hour and ahalf passes and Mary gets up and asks for the check for what we consumed and says we're leaving. The waiter says ,"Your food is almost ready". Mary says no way, everyone around us has eaten, and is leaving, you screwed up, give us the bill, we are leaving. She pays the bill, get our coats and leave. I'm so happy to be out of there cause I really didn't like the restaurant anyway, but Mary was taking us out.

I drag us back to Barney's. This time we go to the coffeeshop, Ah, much better. Mary buys 1g of laughing Buddah and 1g of vanilla kush. I buy? WTF is wrong with me? Why can't I remember anything? I'm sure we liked it.

Anyway, we have a great time. I think I probably nearly peed myself from laughing so hard, the kind were your stomach muscles hurt the next day? We are laughing about the restaurant! Not our fault!

We walk Mary home to her hotel, pass our lady friends on the way to 99. Of course we spark up in our living room before we pass out for the night . Ain't life grand?
