Im off to Amsterdam when the World Cup is on and wondered what I can expect.
Will the streets be a wash with the colour Orange assuming the Netherlands are still in.
Will there be any giant TV screens up around Dam like they often do in this country.
Does it take over the whole country like it does in this country. Im hoping for a wild carnival atmosphere

I went to the last world cup in Germany and went to Amsterdam for three days enroute to Colonge from Hamburg. Most bars had the football on and orange seemed to be hanging up most places. It was a good atmosphere.
I'm not sure about big screens, but the Dutch are in to football in the same way we are in the UK. So I would expect it to be like the UK, especially when Holland are playing.
With all the international visitors, I'm sure there will be a lot of interest with it being a world tournament/festival.

Yeah ,they go all out ,both for World Cup and the Euro Championships ...lot of fun even to to a football illiterate like me ...but I found myself wearing Oranje on gameday...
Breda 06
The little pavilion on Thorbecke Plein ,just off Rembrandt Square can be a fun spot ...seems whoever wins that night goes crazy there ...
Too bad the Turks aren't in it this year . They get REALLY crazy , horns honking, firecrackers as they caravan thru the town celebrating . Sleep can be difficult ...We'll hit town just before it opens and be over jetlag in time to cheer the USA on to victory over England

I'm guessing Rembrandtplein will be rammed for Dutch games. Do they have the game on Club escape's big screen?
I hope to be in Lindos, Rhodes for the first two weeks, should be class. Big rock festival on at the same time (tribute bands etc.)

I went to Germany for the World Cup, but started my trip off in Amsterdam. It was early in the cup, but the streets were filled with orange, and all bars/pubs/cafes/coffeeshops that had a tv showed the games. I didn't see any really large tv screens though. I remember watching Argentina vs. Serbia-Montenegro (I think) at 't Theehuis in Haarlem on a tiny little tv, while smoking some excellent orange bud and polm joints. Being an Argentina fan, I bet my buddy that they would kick Holland's butt. The loser had to buy all the beer in Munich. It was a tie

Ok I'm rambling now.

Great pics above. The atmosphere must be quality during any major footy tournament.
