Hello, I found this forum while searching for information on Amsterdam. I've visited once back in February of 2009. I'm going to be visiting again in mid May(I hope;stupid volcano)

I've got a couple of questions for you guys. I've read plenty of threads but still got conflicting answers on this stuff.

Has the atmosphere in the coffee shops changed with the smoking ban and all? Have anymore coffee shops closed down since last February?

I've been reading most coffee shops arent really enforcing the whole tobacco ban. But then I hear they get fined and have made smoking rooms and all this. When I was there last it didnt seem like anyone really cared. But then again I just smoked pure joints.

Has there been any new law changes on coffee shops/ drug laws? The reason I ask is because it seems like I'm always reading about these AWFUL law changes. Such as some minister wanting to clamp down on the whole trade. Also, about making it only available to locals! This kind of stuff scares the crap out of me.

One last question, what is up with the red light district these days? I've read several news articles that are like " city to clean up area and close down xxx amount of windows" Are half the windows empty now?

Thanks guys!

"High" and Hello
I do not think that much has changed in the year and a quarter between your visits. I myself like the tobacco ban as I only smoke pure and do not like the smell of tobacco.

Thanks for the info guys. Its good to hear the tobacco ban is a bit "relaxed"

I keep reading articles about the cleaning up the RLD. But many say its still the same as last year. Id hate to get all the way there and it be sucky if its half closed.

Thanks for the welcomes! I have heard that La Canna shut. I never went there while I was in Amsterdam. Personally, I'm dying to hit up Grey Area and the Dampkring.
