Coffeeshops East of the Centrum

Post by RollUp »

I'm probably staying right near the Dampkring 2.

How are the coffeeshops that are East of D2 ??

http://www.wietinkaart.nl/

This site shows quite a few shops East of Haarlemmerstraat. With only a 10 minutes walk, would it be wise to check em out? Or should I stick to the centrum?

Sorry but thats got to be the most useless advice I've ever read, he specifically asked for East of the city and you tell him to go in the direct opposite direction. :?

Haarlemmerstraat has some really nice coffeeshops, Picasso, Popeyes even Dampkring, Barneys & Greenhouse are all nearby, Siberie isn't far away neither as is Amnesia and places like Grey Area and Paradox aren't that far away, you'll be in the Jordaan which imo is one of the nicest areas of Amsterdam, enjoy your trip.

Boner! in all respects,The birds in the trees + the dogs on the street could tell him/her to go to barneys/popeyes/doors & all that lot,Like i said before he or she would be far better walking down the blue bridge way & buy/smoke some decent weed at fair prices! ok its out the way! ok its a walk,But its a lot better on your pocket & lungs! the old pink floyd coffeeshop aside that Haarlemmerstraat has to have the biggest rip off place in the whole of amsterdam,Really you may think a chain of barney coffeeshops dominating the place is great but i think hes a greedy shark basicaly! & if i am a fool for stating the odvious well thats your problem man,His weed may have cool sounding names but its dam expensive! furthermore if the best you can come up with is Haarlemmerstraat after like 25 trips well i rest my case buddy,Goodnight.

what do u mean about pink floyd? i never went when it was pink floyd but have heard excellent reviews on the place & now its owned by the dampkring chain which imo sells excellent smokes for a very affordable price, jack herer,ak47,white choco, white russian all come to mind & ive found the staff to always be very friendly,
i do agree with you on barneys, blatant tourist trap, with overpriced products, what i also dont understand is people who slate barneys & then rave about amnesia, EXACTLY THE SAME PRICES
just an opinion m8 8)

Mellow yellow is a much beter place than barneys in my opinion! & i cant say anything about amnesia as ive never been there,What gets me is people blowing smoke up barneys arse & then they cry about his prices going up & up,They cant have it both ways 8).

Mellow Yellow also sell weed with mould on it so yeah thats great advice. ;)

When someone asks for a specific place then I like to give advice to that area not the opposite side of town.

Where exactly did I "blow smoke up Barneys arse" as well? I mentioned them because they're in the area the op is staying, the cost is only relevant to how much you can afford as well. ;)

I fully agree with you on his post being a bit "out of the line", but could you please stop bashing MY just because Puffin said once they had molded weed? Because when I got there one week after he did this post I got some of this "molded weed" and it was excellent and looked just great.

I dont want to say you shouldnt tell people what happened, but I see you are bashing MY for that since Puffin posted it. shit happens, even in the best shops.....and how can you be telling people MY is shit because of molded weed and then advice him to Barneys and Greenhouse? Sorry, but this is bullshit as well isnt it ;)

I never once said Mellow Yellow was shit nor did I bash them I just made a point that they sold weed with mould on it to the same person (Puffin) more than once.

I'd also like to know where I sang the praises of Barneys, Dampkring or Greenhouse all I did was mention they were on Haarlemmerstraat, just for the record Greenhouses Super Lemon Haze won the ICMags Sativa cup during 420, all the judging on there is 100% blind and not corrupt like the Cannabis Cup.

thanks for all the replies!

Want to hear something totally f*cked?

Being the stoner that I am, I titled this thread "East" instead of "West".

What I meant to ask everyone is:

HOW ARE THE COFFEESHOPS WEST OF HAARLEMMERSTRAAT??

my bad..
Are you high right now?

The ACD Amsterdam map will help you out a lot -- you can see where your B&B is - and go from there :)

That's what had me stumped! I was going to make a couple of suggestions but I was puzzled with the other replies. Here is a complete map of the Amsterdam Coffeshops, http://www.amsterdamhashmap.com/

Peace,

IMHO if you do not head out of the central area and into the more residential neighbouring neighbourhoods you are missing out on the real Amsterdam. I love coffeeshop hopping outside of the touristy centre of centrum, for a more relaxed atmosphere and service, often cheaper goods and just a nice experience. I think the best shops and best experiences to be had are outside the centre of things.

Paulie was recently in The Wauw Shop (Spaarndammerdijk 9) and seemed happy with what he purchased. thread

Marco has mentioned Chapiteu (Van Boetzelaerstraat 31) as a worthwhile coffeeshop. thread

De Republiek (2e Nassaustraat 1) and De Supermrkt (Frederik Hendrikstraat 69) are part of the Siberie chain so worth a look.

Technically just west of Haarlemersraat is the Jordaan area which I highly recommend. Shops such as 137, Spirit and Paradox.

West of Haarlemerstraat but to the south there are shops such as Boerejongens and Bij which are probably well worth a look as they have extensive menus and are reputedly of high quality.

Like I say I highly recommend getting beyond the real touristy areas for a nice coffeeshop experience, that said in Amsterdam you are never too far from touristy spots I think.

Use the Weitnkaart site and the directory on this site.

West Canals & Jordaan
The Old West
The West

Hope this helps you but tbh "what is west of haarlemerstraat?" is a kind of vague question as the answer is "lots!"
If you research the area on this site and forum you should be able to figure out what is available but tbh many shops will not be "popular" with members here due to location etc but may be very much worth a visit. Take a risk!
