This was the best trip yet with each day just getting better and better. I didn't know it but while I was flying over the volcano erupted. I got into the Bulldog Hostel Thursday about 9 and Bryan kindly directed me to the Greenhouse Centrum as the closest choice for something special. It gets a little hazy, but I recall that favorites here were the Hawaiian Snow and the Lemon Haze. The AK47 next door at City Hall was pretty good too @ 2.5 grams for 15 E. Quite the fun group developed at the hotel and I was happy to make the acquaintance of Jose and Emir from NY who took pride in rolling giant cones of pure cannabis, good lads. Other favorites turned out to be Abraxas' John Sinclair, a nice tasty and 'clear' high. My favorite 'hash' was (again) the kief from Grey Area, but Abraxas had something very similar in effect and much cheaper. OMG THE HASH IN AMSTERDAM! I finally tripped in the Dam, enjoying Atlantis truffles from the Bulldog's Energy shop. Nice peaceful high with plenty of visuals, had a great time hanging with my buddy at Abraxas II till it kicked in then off to the Van Gogh to be amazed by the artwork. Anyone who is into beer and hasn't discovered the Brouwerj T Ij should do so, awesome good beer, strong, inexpensive and all with a windmill beer garden. It was a perfect day and we managed to waft to the canal for a giant cone before the help very politely asked us to return to the garden proper. I liked the Atlantis so much I tripped the following day (4/20) which perhaps explains my early departure from the group at 420. It was nice to meet everyone, but the combination of the Atlantis, the biggest cone I ever saw and a general lack of air drove me out of 420 early. Unfortunately, I had NO problems getting home though I would love to have been 'stuck' another few days at least. I admitedly did not get everywhere, and did not sample every strain. In fact, with all those wonderful strains, I have a beautifully porus memory, but my favs were the Hawaiin Snow and the Lemon Haze both from Greenshouse.

I am in a way quite envious of those lucky enough to live closer to Amsterdam. For me, it is tough enough to afford the trip one time per year. I agree that I never get to do everything, but I always manage to have fun. It feels like a bachelors party from the time my feet hit the ground straight through to the departure. Although I just got back, I can't wait to return again.

One of the high points was meeting the guy to do this year's tatt in the hotel bar. Turns out his lady works there and his shop is across the canal. SWEET! He was covered with strictly black tatts, they were all so cool, I said to him 'Sorry for staring man but your tatts are all so awesome' ... he said 'I don't mind, that's why they are there. We began chatting and told him I wanted to get the year marked on my Amsterdam tattoo. He asked to see it so I showed him my calf, with my Calvin icon thinking 'Amsterdam is mijn Mekka' ... he loved it and he agreed to do it first thing next morning which of course was about 1:30 (Amsterdam + Tattoo artist = 1:30 morning )

So, now I know Johnny from Hanky Panky on the Oudezijds Voorburgwal 141 and he marked MMX on my calf, with any luck he'll do it again next year.

Over the week I was there, I passed Jose and Emir at least 3x each day on the street each day I was there. It was eerie in a good way. If we weren't immediately by a coffeeshop, they fired up a monster pure cone anyway, and of course in the hotel bar where Emir would proudly announce the particular variety, summarize it's qualities and source, and fire up a monster pure cannabis cone (marked on the carb it's origin and type!) ... thus the 'good lads' reference.

In the early part of this day and while alone, I noticed a large group of young women with two women my age more or less (49) so I struck up a conversation.
'Anyone speak English?' ... I love a stupid question like this because of course EVERYONE speaks up
'YES' ... most everyone is smiling now
'So, what brings you to town?' ...
"Studies' ... I put on a feigned and amused look of shock to the giggles and delight of the young students, not so much the teachers my age. A little more chit chat and I find they are visiting from Belgium. Blah blah blah, they are on they're way and so am I and the day goes on.

If my faulty memory is functioning, this was 4/20, and the second Atlantis trip of the week. What a great day.

As the sunset, the boys at the hotel began to gather up wind for another night of red light district window shopping. It was great fun for me (49) to be with 6-8 'kids' 22-26. Slightly embarrassing the lads pretending to be their father 'How about this one son?' 'My son is a little shy about his small penis' ... and so on.

At one point, I lost them and then I was that tripping maniac we have all seen standing somewhere in the middle of Amsterdam ...

'JAMES! ... I have lost my BOYS! ... HALLOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

Some young fellows from Germany tried to help me. Their English was limited so I gestured for them ITS OK and waved them on. I walked to the KonTiki for a lamb hamburger with fresh pickles and sweet chili sauce to wait, enjoying the show.

As anticipated, the boys ambled by eventually and we walked back to the hotel together. I think Jose was enjoying the crazy talk flowing out on my head most because he hung back with me as we walked. We were the last two to enter the hotel lobby.

As we entered, two of the young Belgian students from the morning waved me over and gave me a joint. I lit and we all chatted.

They were leaving the following morning and needed to use up the cannabis so we gladly obliged. Jose was gunning for the girls, I was asking about the teachers.

This whole day was a series highlights, but the point of this story was the beautiful generosity of the girls, I really love how camaraderie spans national, social and age barriers in Amsterdam.
