Day 5: The Final Day

Wake up this morning, both sad being I have to leave, yet excited to be going home and getting back to familiar surroundings and my daughter. I move super slow this AM, finishing up packing and rolling up the remainder of my stash and proceed to check out and drop my luggage off in the hotel before I head out one final time.

First stop, directly across the street to Kokopelli and I pick up some wind chimes for my mother. I next head into Hunter's Bar, grab a brew and hit the bench outside for a cone of some Bas Special and my beverage.

Realizing I only have about 3 hours before I need to go, I haul ass over to the RLD to take one more quick lap around and get a final gander at the ladies. Take a left up Bloedstraat and find a line of guys 5 deep seemingly waiting outside a kamer with blue lights. I guess the she-men are popular this afternoon!

Quick right and I figure I'll buy my last gram of the trip where I bought my first, Green Place. Now my plan at this point was to ask someone in one of the shops if they could roll me a cone and I'd spark it up with them, as the pre-rolled cones burned rather unevenly half the time. Spot a local looking guy, strikingly similar to the guy from that American Choppers show, and give him my sob story about not knowing how to roll. He agrees so I head in and order 1g of Pineapple Haze. When the tender pulled this tub out and popped the top off you get this super fresh, citrusy smell, extremely nice! Grab my gram and a pear looza and sit outside with my designated roller. Get to chattin' and it turns out this supposed "local" is actually a transplanted New Yorker named Steve who's lived in AMS for some time. He rolls up a nice cone, takes a few hits and tells me the rest is all mine, sweet. We start talkin' New York Yankees baseball to which I start laughing, thinking that no more than 5 minutes I ago I thought this dude was a local who possibly didn't speak English.

Finish up the entire gram of Pineapple Haze (smooth, somewhat sweet smoke with a very clear, sative high), say my farewell to Steve and thank him again and head back to Warmosetraat for my final 2 hours. I have 2 joints left, one filled with Bas Special and the other with some mystery bud that three guys gave me at Green Place as I was leaving the night before, so I head on over to De Kuil, grab a hot chocolate and the front window and waste another hour away chiefing my mystery bud and listening to the classic rock tunes. With only 1 hour to go, I head for the place I smoked my last J last time, good ol' Hill Street Blues.

Order my usual hot chocolate, grab a seat at the front window and fire up my last smoke of the trip, a fatty of some Bas Special. Take in every last bit of my surroundings, thinking about the events of days past and trying to piece together some of the more fuzzier moments.

Take my last puff of Amsterdam herb for likely a long while, hold it for a good 20 secs and finally, exhale.

It's time to go home.
