Just wanted to post some info on this hotel:

http://www.hotelcornerhouse.nl/

Stayed 2 nights, 10 people, 5 private (en suite) Rooms.

1 - Excellent Location, 2 minutes from the Grey Area, Abraxas and HGF is literally 15 doors away!!

2 - Rooms were ready for check in at 10am, guy told us no smoking in the rooms!!! Went up the stairs, 1st thing we all smelled, WEED!!! flowing everywhere. Everyone smoked in the hotel and received no complaints!!

3 - My room was perfect, it had a door that opened up on to a small rooftop, great for smoking on!!!

4 - Facilities are basic, at least the toilet was clean and i felt comfortable taking a dump  Shower could of been a bit modern, but did the job. Bathroom extremely small!!!

5 - My only complaint would be the old guy who opened the door both nights around 3-4am. 1st night we came back and wanted drinks, he told us what we could have etc... We bought around 8 bottles of corona for the 3 of us who had come back, and waited for the others to come back to the hotel. No problem, thought this is ok. But!!! The next night we came back around the same time and the same guy completely flipped on us, saying we never bought drinks at the hotel, or didn't eat in his restaurant, etc..What a cheek!!! We bought 2 rounds when we checked in!!! 12 of us, that makes 24 beers we bought!!! not to mention the countless times in the day people bought a coffee/beer/juice when they stopped back at the hotel to drop things off!!! And to top it all off, when we were going up to our rooms he SHOUTED at us - "YOU ALL OUT AT 10:30, OUT, OUT, GO"!!! Blimey we know check out is at 10:30 you muppet!!!

So to end things, despite the excellent location etc, i wouldn't stay here agin in a hurry, maybe as a last resort (as it was this time). Usually i have a the Ibis Hotel next to central station or the other at Valkenburgerstraat (near the Bluebird) when booking with friends well in advance, or the Radisson Blu (formerly the SAS) on Rusland directly opposite Rusland coffeeshop, and 10 seconds away from Basjoes and Bagheera!!! Now thats a Location!!!

I would say though, as a last resort, only booking 2 weeks in advance what can you expect, at least the place wasn't a rat infested shit tip, although i don't know what the other rooms are like. Downstairs is a hostel i think!!!

What did they charge you? I think they must of been took over since last year as the staff couldn't of been better for me.

70e per night, per room.

The other staff were ok i guess, but i just resented this old guy talking to us like that, we spent money in his hotel.

Things like that really piss me off, and the fact that usually i would of booked my hotel well in advance means I probably won't use it again out of principal.

Hotel was OK and i would say if you want Central location and Smoker Central you can't go wrong.

I paid €45 a night for a private twin room last April, I think the single rooms were €30 or 35, I wouldn't pay €70.

Do any of the single rooms have a TV? I emailed Cornerhouse a few days ago but forgot to ask this question and haven't seen anything on their website about it. Any info would be appreciated.

single rooms do have TV;last time i visited there was a prob with the TV and the staff went out of their way to fix the problem with the tv in my room the same day...i've stayed there 4 times now and never had any probs(apart from the tv) although it can be a little noisy on the lower floors above the bar but a few good doobs and i never hear a thing after i hit the pillow

I'm planning to hit the Dam in May and I have stayed here a few times throughout 08/09. I can defo say that management has changed, its no longer Theo, who was always pleasure to deal with and gave me cheaper than advertised rates. Their website states 40e for single and 70e for double, but when I called the lady quoted me 88e first, then a male voice could be heard saying 'no 98'?!? I enquired as to why the hike in price to which I got a very uninterested reply something like different rates for different times. Yeh right basically whatever you can get away with!I

I then emailed and made sure there was a trail of previous emails when I was quoted 60e in the past, and when I got my response this morning was told they are under new management and the best they could do was 90E per night.

Not happy with this, might look into Amsterdam Cribs, Greenhouse Effect or Voyagers....
