A man known as Canada's "prince of pot" pleaded guilty Monday in a deal with prosecutors that could send him to prison in the United States for five years.

Marijuana activist Marc Emery pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Seattle, Washington, to a single count of conspiracy to manufacture marijuana following an 18-month investigation into the seed-selling business Emery operated from his head shop in Vancouver, British Columbia.

well, if he already sold seeds, I feel more safer than before, because now that there is no one selling the seeds, there will be no more people who can grow it, so the world was saved again, by Team America!

I think their rationale was that he was selling to US customers. But of course this argument has more holes than swiss cheese.

whats next? arresting a coffeeshop owner because a US citizen tried to bring weed back with them?

Pretty sure it's because he sold seeds to people in the US which is illegal, to be fair it's very draconian of the US but the law is the law and he knew what he was doing, I know it doesn't justify it in anyway but he's a scam artist anyway, I've read countless accounts of people being sold shit seeds and not only that but he sold them at extortionate prices.

I think he's ok with all this as well as he's become a bit of a 'martyr' in the pot world because of it as well and only helps his legend.

yet another example of world police....looks like canada's sovereignty is worth jack shit......what's next? coffeeshops busted and the owners extradited for selling to U.S. citizens??? it's fuckin pathetic......overgrow the feds....they water their pretty lawns etc.,drop a few beans into said areas as you pass by.....it doesn't have to be you're best beans...any old beans will do,even from bird seed/fishing bait.....if it's everywhere, they can't stop it........which reminds me,the local courthouse is due it's annual deposit,as is town hall

Some of you have hit the nail on the head!

This issue is ENTIRELY about sovereignty!
why was he tried in usa, when he was operating in canada????.

Because, when the fucking Yank government says jump, our government says "How high?" (No pun intended)

We have a Tory government, who have heavily borrowed policy from the Republicans and to them its a win-win situation. They get to kiss Yank government ass and we are rid of a strong anti-prohibitionist.

The Yanks wanted Emery because he also funded the US Marijuana Party and was outspoken about prohibition.

QUESTION: If it was simply for selling seed to the Yanks, then why haven't all the other seed sellers (In Canada, Holland, the UK, and so on) who also sell to the US been arrested?

ANSWER: they keep their fucking mouths shut, simply pocketing their money from that ridiculously lucrative business, and, in NO way try to help end prohibition!
I think their rationale was that he was selling to US customers. But of course this argument has more holes than swiss cheese.

Actually, think of this analogy.
You sell and ship bottles of booze to countries where booze is illegal. (Say, for example, to an Islamic theocracy, such as Iran, or Saudi Arabia. Would you expect your government to deliver you to Iran/Saudi Arabia to do your jail time? Can you see the American Government saying "Okay Iran/Saudi Arabia, we'll send you one of our citizens to face punishment in your country"

Not fucking likely!!

It is called extra-territorial judiciality..It has always been part and parcel of American foreign policy and probably will allways be so.
....And it means that Yank foreign policy is such that they think they can do what the fuck they want!!

Imagine that same theocracy arresting Americans for not blocking foreigners access to the content on US porn sites?
Ain't gonna happen!

.

Well, logic dictates that if he was a "scam artist" then the US case is moot, RIGHT???

I am not saying he was an angel. Some people had a beef with him.
However, there is NOT one seed shop that does not garner bad reviews. The same goes for coffeeshops. For every coffesshop that most people think is the Cats Ass, someone thinks it is shit/had a bad experience/claims to have been ripped off.

IMO, Emery did seem, somewhat, the "author of his own legend", and seemed to enjoy his notoriety, but I have been in his shop many times and he was always genuinely friendly and I never got ripped off. He was, above all else, a businessman, but he also did good things for the legalisation movement, both in Canada and the US. Futhermore, he declared all his taxes and was completly transparent the he was selling marijuana seeds AND Health Canada recomended Canadian Medical MJ uses to buy their seeds from him. (A government endorsement.....how the fuck can they send him to the states?).

This issue has nothing to do with Marc Emery, but rather with national sovereignty. I am sick of our governemnnt always caving into Yankee bullshit. They do this all the time rather than telling them to Fuck off. If Marc Enery commited a crime then he should serve his time in a Canadian jail, which he was willing to do.

Finally, he was an intelligent and extremely articulate anti-prohibitionist. Even baked out of his fucking skull he could rationally and articulately discuss any manner of issues. This is something the legalisation movement needs, because we have to sell the legalisation issue to non-stoners. Having some inarticulate fuckoff as a spokeperson, while perhaps amusing to us, will set back the legalisation movement.

the hundreds of people that got the wrong seeds and or nothing would disagree with ya there.....then if no jail...how about i bash his 1000 dollar bong over his head,,id feel better...he might of treated you right and thats fine...but he shit on alot of us.......and some of us beleived him and got ripped off more then once....i was a sucker...now he is.....what comes around...and in conclusion...treat people the way you wanna be treated....honestly...and good things will happen....and if ya bait and switch and take money...bad things....enjoy our spacious prisons...lol

Ingwey, how can you say you were never ripped off when he was selling seeds at a much greater price than they were sold for elsewhere? I've noticed a lot of the Canadian seedbanks do exactly the same, Hempdepot being another prime example. (Greenhouses Feminised Hawaiian Snow, on HD are $250 and on somewhere like Attitude they're $59.24. (both canadian $'s)

This is what i think.

The dude wanted this show down, tbh i think he's a bit of a douche with a superiourity complex, he seems to think that it's his life is some movie/super hero thing with him up playing David and the US playing Goliath, while that could be true it means i have little sympathy. This is ultimately what he wanted, his campaign overgrow the DEA kinda shows what he's like IMO. He wanted us to overgrow the DEA, but only with his overpriced ( and apparently shite ) seeds. He could of given out seeds for free, underground, but he wanted his face on everything and out there and it bit him on the arse.

Fair play he was arguing for a cause i believe in, but David Cameron said once upon a time he wants to legalize cannabis for medical reasons, but i think he's a cunt as well.
