Best coffeeshops for music

As some have already listed, coffeeshop Baba seems to stick with good trance/chill out music. Hill Street Blues (Warmoesstraat) play similar with a decent volume especially at weekends. Coffeeshop 36 I found to be playing nice chill out ambient trance too. Once went into Feels Good coffeeshop and they were playing great epic trance music, but it may have just been a one off trance session that evening. If you get a chance to check it out, let me know what it's like in the evening these days.

I agree with Boner. It all depends who's working behind the counter that day and what they feel like playing. I personally avoid with a passion, places that play any sort of rap music. Can't think of anything worse than listening to rap, which I don't even class as music, to kill a good buzz, swiftly swiveling on my heel out of there if I heard it when entering any pub of coffeeshop, but each to their own.

Any coffeeshop or pub that plays hard trance or ambient is my personal forte. I've always wondered if a classical music coffeesop would work?

Except for me, its Trancy-Techno-clicky-pop noise( I can't call it music ) that turns my stomach. Worst possible noise to get baked to.

Trance music is an invigorating emotion expressed through bass-pumping beats and beautiful, melodic chords, fused together to create a genre of music capable of whisking the listeners mind away into hypnotic euphoria of ecstasy.

Whereas Rap is not a music genre, it's a voice style, imho. It's just not my cup of tea and completely appreciate that trance or ambient trance is not to everyones taste although there is a very fine line between trance music and classical music, I like both, but rap I instinctively don't get.

when you talk about rap, are you referring to rap along the lines of 'gangsta' ? Where does hip-hop stand in all this?

Rap and Hip-Hop is more or less all under the same umbrella for me and before all this could spiral out of control, veering off on a tangent, this is just my personal feeling.

I completely appreciate that some Hip-Hop music doesn't necessarily have to have a rapping in it, however rap came from from Hip-Hop culture in my view. Notice I used the word culture here, which I feel is the operative word. I totaly understand and appreciate a good artist who can sing with a good voice but to me, rap is basically talking in a certain manner/way, ie, not music.

As a general synopsis, although not strictly precise, I tend favour pure music in a vocal-less format such as trance, ambient, hard trance, progressive trance, tribal, Goa, Gabber, even classical and some spacey new age stuff, ie, pure music.

I feel compelled again to state.........each to their own and no offence to those who like rap, just as much I would hope not to have any offence back for me liking trance music.

Trance is music! Just because a synth or computer was used to create a combination of usually hard up tempo, 4/4 rhythms and winding acid loops, arpeggiated sequences and euphoric anthem-like refrains, still needs a creator and artist to compile the music score, regardless. However, a DJ mixing and morphing tunes, either on turntables or on a PC in someones bedroom, is not a musician.

Hmmmm----I like a bit of old school rock like Pink Floyd or the Beatles etc---but like a bit of pop too like britpop--ocean colour scene, oasis , blur etc---trancy pop like Morcheeba and a new trancy pop band i got into--Bonobo-----dont expect I'll be enjoying much of this stuff in your average coffeeshop

My boys a DJ so I had about 5 years of noises coming from upstairs that sounded like someone was trying to break into the house with a hammer. i dont like dance music but can go a bit of trancy pop----reggae is cool

Only a few days to go - been lookin forward to this for yonks and now I have a right horrible nasty cold with bronchitis and really fucked off.. Hopefully it will clear up by then. Boyfriend is convinced he will get it though.. sorry, moan over.

Possibly Sussies Salon. It's a smoker friendly pub, not coffeeshop. Has a duke box if I recall and pool table and is very popular with Americans and Brits alike and gets very busy too at night or when top sports are on. I like the place as you can have a beer and a smoke. It's opposite Greenhouse Centrum coffeeshop .

each time i visit i make sure to bring a few cd's that i leave with the guys. they usually make it onto the "setlist"...and a little goodwill never hurt!
