10 Days In A "Daze" May/25 - June/04
10 Days in a daze (continued)
DAY 6
One of the reasons that it is taking me so long to finish this report is that I am trying to make the trip linger in my memory. After planing and anticipating the trip for months, it seems necessary to "prolong" the experience, at least in my mind, now that I am back in my routine. For those of you who have visited Amsterdam, you know about the shock of returning to your home and how much you want to keep your vacation alive in your memory, I think that's what I"m doing. Anyway, back to the trip report.
It was Sunday my sixth day in Amsterdam, the time was flying by, as usual. I was going to stay in town today because there was a planed T&T at 3:00pm at De Graal Coffee Shop, hosted by Tempelball.
I took my time getting up and ready for the day. After breakfast I headed down to Softland to check my email. The horrible "Bud Tender from Hell" was not working that morning, a rather pleasant "low key" man had taken her place. I paid for a 1/2 hour of internet use and ordered a Coffee. I loaded my pipe with the 3 cheeses that I had bought during my trip: Paradox, Basjoe, and Extreme, in that order. I have to say, once again the Extreme version was the winner, Basjoe's was a close second. I added a little "Leb", that I bought in Leiden, to the Mix and finished my coffee.
HAPPY FEELINGS
Diesel Haze 12.00 per gram.
I walked down toward the Liedseplien, I hadn't been there yet this trip. I stopped at the Coffee Shop formerly known as Global Chillage, its now called Happy Feelings. This place has been transformed. It used to be a real "chill", hang out shop with "Fantasy" paintings on the wall. Now its a slick commercial venture with a turn style that lets you in once you have made a purchase, yuck! I had a look at the menu, the Bud Tender suggested the Diesel Haze so I tried that. I found a table with a "Verdamper" on it, that's a definite plus! I loaded a nice bowl of the D.Haze, and another. Once again, it wasn't the "soaring" Haze experience that I was looking for. Looking back, I wish I would have walked over to Mellow Yellow to try the S5 Haze, that I had read about, I was craving a really good Haze; but that just didn't occur to me at the time. So I had a few more "Verdamper" hits at H.F, then I headed out to get some food. I walked down to Maos to have a Fallafel. These things are one of my "staples" when I am Amsterdam. They are Filling, good and cheap, a little messy, though! After I ate I walked around the Leidseplien for a while; at this point I noticed that my throat was sore and I was sneezing a lot. Oh crap! I hoped it was just to much smoking and drinking and not a Virus starting. I decided to head back to my Hotel to rest up for the T&T at 3, sorry I just had to rhyme that!
De Graal
No Purchases
I rested for about an hour then headed out to catch a Tram to DePijp. I got off the Tram at Albert Cyup and walked down to De Graal. I walked by it at first, then I back tracked and found it,it was closed. It was a little before 3:00 pm, so, I walked around a little, then I went back only to find it was still closed. I stood there for a while in the hopes of running into an ACDer, no such luck so I thought I would try Katsu: that seemed like the most likely "back up plan" shop.
KATSU
Nepal Ice 10.00 per gram
I walked into Katsu and looked around for possible ACD attendees. I noticed there where only a few Dutch speaking people, so I thought I would look at the Menu and wait for a while. I bought a gram of the Nepal Ice, which I had wanted to try. It is supposedly taken from the same weed used for Nepali Black Hash, or TempelBall ,but the crystals are extracted using the "Icealator" method instead of by hand. I grabbed a stool and fired it up with a little bed of D.Haze. It was nice, certainly not over powering, with a little more of a head high then regular Nepali, I liked it. I waited for a while and still no ACD peeps, so I thought I would walk up to YoYo.
As I headed toward YoYo I could hear what sounded like an outdoor concert in that area, when I got close I could see that a stage was set up, with hundreds of people right next to the Coffee Shop. I really wasn't feeling like dealing with crowds, so I thought I would head back to De Graal to see if it was open yet. As I walked back down Albert Cuypstratt I could hear the sound of "My Way" in Dutch echoing off the buildings.
When I got back down to De Grall it was a little after 4:00pm. There was a young Woman unlocking the door. She said they had to clean up a bit then they would open up. So I stood outside and waited for about 5 minutes. Then some local people started showing up, they lined up to buy some products. So, I went inside in the hopes that some T&T attendees would show up. I wasn't really feeling that good so I waited a little while longer then I decided to take off. It turns out, as I found out later, I just missed TempleBall and Blueridge, they got there just after I left, I will have more on that later.
I caught a Tram and went back to my Hotel. Then I went and Got a Pancake in the shop downstairs. The Pancakes in the States are thicker and not really served as a "savory" dish like Dutch Pancakes, (which are more like Crepes). I have found that they are kind of "hit or miss" in quality but this one was pretty good. After I ate I went over to Extreme Coffee Shop, again. Joanna was there, I talked to her for a while as I smoked some Cheese and the Nepali Ice. I was feeling tired and slightly Ill so I headed back to my Hotel to call it a night.
Day 7 coming soon, only 4 days left of my trip! Cheers!

thanks for the nice read ... and yes these trip reports do bring back the memoriesCal X wrote:DAY 6 ... to extend the trip-writing memory-prolonging experience a bit longer may i suggest doing what others notably luvtick have done and that is to write up and submit the trip report for one single day every week ... so your "4 days left" will last one more monthCal X wrote:Day 7 coming soon, only 4 days left of my trip! looking forward to the rest of the report ...
ps love the way you relaxed on the second day ...
Hey Cal,
We also just missed each other at Katsu - doh
I went to Media as the likely backup but bolted after a little while then went to Katsu by say 3:40 and saw what I now know is you sitting at the front table. When I saw you, I guess I was looking for Temple Ball as I had a general description of him so I just said to myself "oh that can't be him" and went down to the counter. You seem to get up and leave shortly after that. I ended up sitting exactly where you were so that I could watch the door. I stayed until 4 before returning to De Graal to find TB already there - it sounds like you must have missed him be mere minutes.
I am loving the report and enjoyed your comment about how writing it prolongs the trip for you in a way - what a positive way to approach the disappointment of return!

10 Days in a daze (continued)
DAY 7
Today I woke up with a full blown Cold, or a virus of some kind. I hadn't been sick in over 2 years at home and now that I'm on Vacation, In Amsterdam, it hits me; talk about bad luck. Anyway, I was going to "push through it" because I had planned a pretty busy day. I had planned on going to the Hermatage Museum on the Amstel. Then, I was hosting a T&T at Hunters at 8:00 pm.
I finally made it out of the Hotel at about 10:30 am, then I headed down to Softland to check my email. The nice Dude was there so I ordered a coffee and paid for 1/2 hour of Internet time. I didn't smoke anything because my throat was to soar and I was coughing to much. I finished up there, then went over to Maos at the Munt Plien. The place was busy, so I ordered a Falafel and crammed into a stool in the corner. It was crowded, I didn't feel well and the food was messy; at least it tasted good.
I decided to walk to the Hermatage via the Rembrandt Plien. By now it was raining pretty good, it's a good thing that I brought my umbrella; you never know in the Netherlands. I walked by: the Bush Doctor, Smokey, Old Amsterdam and Sevilla. I didn't go in any of these shops as I had enough "gear" to last me for 2 weeks and and I didn't feel like smoking anyway!
I finally found the Hermatage after I had walked on the wrong side of the Amstel for a considerable distance before asking for directions; I guess that's a "male thing".
The Hermatage houses a rotating collection of Art from the Hermatage in St Petersberg Russia. This exhibition includes paintings by Matisse as well as works from his contemporaries. I paid the 15.00 Euro, A bit pricey, then hung up my jacket and umbrella. I went into the first gallery, Wow! I have been looking at these paintings in books for years and here they are right in front of me. I always get a little excited when I see familiar "Master Pieces" in person, (another "Art Geek" trait). I spent about 2 hours looking at Paintings, then I felt a little wave of fatigue, from the virus, so I headed back to my Hotel to rest up for the T&T at 8:00 pm.
I slept about an hour then I went to the Indian restaurant, right behind the Hotel, for some food. After eating I really wanted to get high, despite the Virus. So I went back to the Hotel to grab my "stash" then I headed out to find a shop with a Vaporizer, easier on the throat and Lungs!
ANYDAY
Durban 8.00 per gram? ( I'm not sure about that price).
So I went over to Anyday to use one of the "Verdampers", that would mean minimal smoke; in theory anyway. I bought a gram of the Durban, I thought if any one had a good sample of this stuff it would be Anyday, wrong! I tried about 3/4 of my gram in the "Verdamper", which was relatively smoke free, but it produced a very minimal "Buzz". It's a good thing that I brought my stash along. I put some Nepal Ice, from Katsu ,in the bowl along with the rest of the Durban and some D.Haze; thankfully that did the trick. By now it was about 7:30 pm so I thought I better get over to Hunters for my T&T at 8:00 pm.
When I got over to Warmerstratt I noticed that the Coin was now called Hunters, and there was a Hunters Lounge as well, Oh crap, which one will the T&T people go to? So I thought I would wait in the original Hunters and ask the workers at the other 2 shops to send any one asking about a T&T over to the original shop; pretty confusing huh! So I ordered a Coke Lite and let the Woman about the T&T, she was very "cool" with that. I found a Table, put a little A.C.D sign out where people could see it, and pulled out my stash. They didn't have a Vaporizer so I thought I would smoke lightly through my Pipe. I started with some of the Sativa's that I had, then added some of my Hash. I waited about 20 minutes, then I went over to the other shops to see if any one had gone to one of those instead. I walked through each shop with my A.C.D sign displayed so people could see it, no takers. I went back to the "real" Hunters and waited another hour, still no A.C.D peeps. This was the third T&T, two of them mine, that no one showed up for, maybe people got the shops mixed up, who knows! So, I had another, assorted, bowl and decided to give up on the T&T, I had been there for an an hour and a half. I thought that I would head over to Nes to have a Beer and talk to D.C.
Nes wasn't too busy, I was able to find a stool at the bar. I ordered a Gulpner and asked if D.C was there. The Bar Tender said he would be down soon so I pulled out my stash and loaded a bowl of S.A.G.E with some Nepal Ice.
After a short while D.C came over an sat next to me. I showed him the Nepal Ice, which was the best thing that I had purchased in a few days. He gave it a little sniff then he pulled out a baggy of some reddish brown dust, I had a whiff of that stuff, wow! The "Weed Fairy" had arrived! He asked for my pipe, then he loaded it up with the "magic dust". He said it was "pot of gold" and "Hindu Kush" Ice. I fired up the pipe full and smoked it down. Holy Crap! I have had some good ice in my day but this really stood out. It smelled and tasted great and it was a true "Ass Kicker", finally something really good and a big step above anything that I had tried during my entire trip. While I was enjoying that bowl, some guy was getting a little rowdy. D.C made quick work of getting him the Hell out of there. That appears to be a regular thing in that bar.
After the commotion was over D,C came back over and bought me another Gulpner. He asked me for my Pipe again and this time he loaded up with a finer screened version of the same Ice. Wow! I thought the first one was good this one, which it was, but this was pretty close to pure crystals. The Weed Fairy did good my friends. We talked for a little while longer then it was closing time. So, I finished my Beer as D.C loaded up one of my baggies with some Ice, Thanks M8; believe me, that was much appreciated.
Now I had a nice warm "Glow" about me, I didn't even notice the Virus. It was time to head back to the Hotel for a nice snooze!

Day 8 ,coming up very soon!
I was suppose to be at your T&T at Hunters that night but got a late start, stayed on a tram one stop too many and didn't get to Hunters until probably 9:15. By the time I got there I was expecting that I had missed everyone. I don't remember seeing you there like at Katsu but I seem to remember that while not busy, the place was not empty either. I bought some NYCD and left to go get some food somewhere. Well, it was definitely my loss as perhaps I would have gone to the Nes with you that night and finally met DC (which I regret I never got around to doing
) Those crystals were Biblical and never failed to, as you say "climb over the top" of anything. Thanks again for passing them on to me along with all of the other lovely bits of hash.
Also, I think your descriptions of the museums are great. Keep 'em coming.
I thought that having my ACD map out on my table would get the attention of some people but it never seemed to. One forum member that I did meet - it may have been you - said that until they saw my map they had not seen any others during their trip.

Hey Blueridge! I must have just left Hunters around the time that you got there, kind of a repeat of the De Graal T&T. I don't think that I saw your Map, but ftcarrer had one out when I met him at Bageera. Next time you go to Amsterdam check out Nes, D.C is a good host! Maybe I will see you over there sometime, perhaps 4/20, who knows!blueridge wrote:I was suppose to be at your T&T at Hunters that night but got a late start, stayed on a tram one stop too many and didn't get to Hunters until probably 9:15. 10 Days in a daze (continued)
DAY 8
I woke up feeling worse then yesterday, sneezing, coughing but I could still function, somewhat. I took my time getting ready to go out into the bustling Amsterdam streets. During breakfast I had a nice conversation with a local man who was helping out at the Hotel. He knew a lot about the culture and history of the city, we talked for and hour and a half. I left the Hotel at about 10:00 to get my day started.
My first stop was Soft land to check my email. There she was, the "Evil Empress of Cannabis" serving her particular brand of "poison", along with over priced samples of mediocre Weed! I put on my "happy face" and ordered a coffee and asked for a half an hour of internet use. She was doing her best impersonation of someone "being nice", I actually appreciated that! I checked my email, had my coffee and got out, unscathed!
La Tertulia
Kushadelic 10.00 per gram? (not sure about this price).
I walked down to LaTutulia on the Prisegraught. For those of you who have never been there, it is one of the best "chill" shops in the city. It is owned by a pleasant Mother & Daughter team. The place is filled with house plants and has a nice up stairs area with lots of windows, providing a nice view of the Prisengraught. I walked in, looked at the menu and decided on the Kushadelic; this is a strain that I had really wanted to try. I asked if I could use ther "Verdamper" the Woman said "Yes" and graciously carried it up the steps for me, then plugged it in. While I was waiting for the "Verdamper to warm up, I prepared some of the Kushadelic, for vaporizing, and enjoyed the ambience, as well as the "World Music" playing on the sound system. After about 10 minutes, the "Verdamper" was ready, so, I loaded it up and took several big draws. I know that when I'm sick the effects of Weed are not always completely apparent, but this just wasn't doing much; it was pleasant, but pretty subtle. I don't know how much of this stuff you would have to consume for the "delic", as in "Psycodelic", part to kick in. It just goes to show you thatr you cant judge a strain by each individual sample, I have read reports of this stuff, purchased elsewhere, being pretty good; after all, it is a Soma strain, the Man that came up with So Gouda and Amnesia Haze!
By now I was getting pretty hungry, so I walked over to a pancake restaurant right down the Prinsengraught, I think it's called the Coffee Hause, or something like that. I ordered a Ham & Cheese Pancake, which was alright, and a coffee, which was the best that I have had in Europe.
I was getting a little fatigued, so I went back to my Hotel, which was just a few blocks away.
After resting up for a bit, I walked over to Anyday. One of the nicest Bud Tenders in the city was working there. I ordered a water and asked to use one of the "Verdampers", I was still avoiding pure smoke if I could. The nice young man handed me a glass bowl, then I squeezed up the narrow spiral stair case. I loaded up the Jamaican and the Durban that I had purchased there a few days before. I know that the Jamaican High Grade gets a lot of positive reviews by A.C.D members, but frankly, It really didn't do very much; and I had tried it when I was still feeling good, as well as variety of "mental" conditions! The Durban did even less then the Jamaican. Not that I am putting this shop down, because they do have some really good gear, which I will talk more about in an up coming report, and I like the "Verdampers". I decided put some John Sinclair into the bowl, what a splendid addition that was. I put a little bit of Turkish Hash from Paradox in with the J.S, that was nice too. In fact, I would have to say that all of the Hash that I purchased on this trip, and that is a considerable amount, was quite good! I stayed at Anyday for about an hour, then I thought I would try someplace else.
I headed over to 420 to use the "Volcano" when I got there It was kind of busy at the counter. It was only about 8:00 pm and I was actually getting tired and I really didn't feel like waiting for the "Volcano" to be available. I do like to make the most of my time n Amsterdam, but the fatigue won out, So I gave up on 420 and headed back to the Hotel for an "instant" snooze. I slept the rest of the night, no fun eh?
Day 9 coming soon! [/i]
I woke up feeling worse then yesterday, sneezing, coughing but I could still function, somewhat.

Mate happened to me nine years ago. Got to Amsterdam and on the second day developed full blown flu. Throat on fire and every bone in my body ached. Funny thing is I was loaded on pain killers etc took a early night to feel better for next days smoking. I made a joint n felt hungry I had two pieces of space cake I saved and tucked in completely forgetting it was space cake whilst Reading a book !!! And hour later I came up off the cake from resting in bed and I was mangled. The only one time I needed a cold shower to square up !!!!!

Re: 10 Days in a daze (continued)
Hey Cal X. I've been crusing thru yer report this fine afternoon and enjoying it immensely. One thing that's bothered me is your patronage of Softland. I've really nothing to say for, or against, the establishment -- it always struck me as a bit sterile given its industrial urban motif tbh. But it's killing me that you would stick with the same shop when some witch is intent on making u miserable day after day, especially on yer vacation.Cal X wrote:My first stop was Soft land to check my email. I would have been outta there after day 1. If u needed a free terminal, may I suggest Abraxas next time? It's not too far from Softland and they give you an internet token after buying a drink. I think's it's good for 15 min. if u need to check e-mail.
Even better would be HGF. They have free wifi there so u would need a laptop or iPod/iPad.
Any chance it was this place?Cal X wrote:By now I was getting pretty hungry, so I walked over to a pancake restaurant right down the Prinsengraught, I think it's called the Coffee Hause, or something like that. Also, really digging yer museum tips -- thinking of stopping by the Hermitage myself next trip. Pls. feel free to be as art geeky as you want to be -- I'd appreciate the pointers when doing the culture thing.
Gr8 report btw. Thx loads.
Everyone seems normal until you get to know them.
Hey Titus,
You make a very good point about Soft Land. I guess I am just a creature of habit! The place was close to the Hotel and I always passed by it, so I just went in; besides, adversity is good fodder for a story. I knew that Abraxas had Internet but I didn't think about it at the time, next trip that will be my email headquarters. By the way, the John Sinclair at Abraxas is well worth the 14.00 Euro per gram.
Yes Titus, the Koffiehuis Hoek is the place where I got the really good cup of Coffee and a Pancake, thanks for that!
