Well, I did visit when I was about ten, but that was irrelevant and too long ago.


I'm doing a tour around Europe over July-September and I'm in Amsterdam for five days. While I want to see some of the sights, I'm more interested clearly in the coffeshop culture.

I've only smoked weed once before, and that was a badly rolled, very weak joint (while I was drinking) almost two years ago. I don't remember it doing too much to be honest, it was shoddy quality, so we can fairly say that I'm a complete newbie to pot.

what do you recommend for a first timer? i dont want to get hit too heavy and i don't really know much about the different types, though reading around the board it sounds like I should go for a vaporizer and something pretty mellow that the vets on here avoid.

also, i'm travelling alone - but of course i'll meet people on this tour, no problem. and i'm of pretty small stature, 19 year old female, if that affects your reaction or anything.
maybe i should wait until i come back to the Dam, with a trusted friend or someone who knows more about it?

Definately NOT.
Go for it, you will have a blast.
Indica weeds give you more of a body stone, you will hear of couchlock.
Sativa give you more of a head buzz or high.
Try both, Sativa for the day walking around checking things out, Indica for evening relaxing time.
This board arranges TnTs ( toke and talks ) where travelers and locals hook up at a coffeeshop and smoke together.
I'd suggest that when you get your dates.
My wife and i are in Amsterdam mid July for 12 days, maybe well see you.

I hope you have a great time. I love being in Amsterdam by myself, and I've never felt insecure as a woman.

I'm sure you'll enjoy the city and there are always interesting people to meet in coffeeshops.

Start out with something like Orangebud (James usually has some nice orangebud at Basjoe's). Amnesia is actually owned by a woman, and always has knowlegable tenders who can help you out with something not-too-strong (Hawaiian Snow would be a good choice there)

Also, if you're worried about being too out-of-it, you might find you prefer that sativas (hazes) more than the indicas, because you will be more high than stoned, and for me at least, more mentally clear usually. Blueberry Silver Haze from MY/Noon would be killer in a vaporizer.

buy the strongest thing on the menu, roll a nice joint, smoke the damn thing and have a huge whitey. all that will happen is that you will pass through the whitey, pick yourself up and do it all again. it's part of the fun. don't treat dope so seriously. it's just a drug.

i haven't had a whitey for the best part of twenty years and envy those who have.

I honestly wouldn't recommend a woman alone aim for a whitey. That strikes me as stupid advice, and I'm not a particularly cautious woman.

(Also, whiteys are caused by a blood sugar drop, so if you want to avoid them or start feeling woozy, the answer is sugar, now. Juice, hot chocolate, etc.)

Just so you know, as a woman there are a lot of worse things that can happen to you when you are passed out in public, then just being passed out in public. 1 out of 3 women are raped in their lifetime, jackass.

I would ask the bud tender if you are not sure what to try. There's no shame in asking. They would prefer you had a good time, than to be a gibbering wreck. Maybe try Grey Haze from Grey Area as this has a great energetic high without the paranoia of some other sativas. I have travelled numerous times to Amsterdam as a solo traveller and never once have I had any trouble. Ok I am 39 male and heavy built, but I am sure you will have a great time. A good tip is to eat well and dont mix the bud with alcohol as this will lower your sugar levels dramastically and may result in a 'whitey'. I myself only smoke when in the Dam, so my tolerence is 0 when I arrive . So in a way I know where you are coming from. Anyway Im sure you will have a whale of a time. If you wanna meet up for a T&T just pm me as I will be in town the first week of september.

I hear that the LSD strain from amnesia is a good indica for those of a nervous dispossition.
