NEW COFFEESHOP MAP I MADE
You can install a plug-in called "FireShot" for FireFox ( https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/5648/ ) I think they have an IE version as well. This add-on will let you save an entire screenshot of a webpage (with flash) even anything that is not in the visible area. It will capture the entire webpage so you can convert the map yourself to image format if you want (it will ask you to save to jpeg or png format).
After you've saved the full screenshot/image of the map using FireShot, you can open the image in Paint then go to Print, Page Setup (I have Win 7) and select - under "Scaling:" you can change the printed size, 100% of Normal Size will print out the full map in it's original size, it will print out the full map on 20 pages. Then you can tape them together and bring it to a print or copy shop and have them laminate it. You will probably have to mess with the 100% scaling and make it less and see what works best with the minimum number of pages printed and is still readable. The full version at 100% is 4 pages across in size. Try 50% or 75% etc.. I'm not going to be using the printed version myself so I didn't check all the different sizes. Maybe try to print it as small as you can and bring a small magnifying reading glass.
On a side note, I only said how to do this due to several people asking about it however, personally I'd much rather have a smartphone that handles flash, planning on getting the HTC HD2. So, that's much more convenient for me than a map. I just wanted to say this since it might look like people are bitching when they keep asking for him to do a jpeg version. I don't want him to take that negatively and maybe end up not work on future updates etc.. or abandon the project. Since I'm sure it took a lot of work to do the flash version. I didnt even upload the jpeg version myself since he requested it not be hosted or distributed so I just provided steps on how to do it yourself.

Exactly. Looking for a good map to find my way around town to visit coffee shops. This is by far the best map I've seen. I'm certainly not trying to rip off anybody's intellectual property. I'm just trying to be able to use it as a tool while I am actually in Amsterdam.

I hear ya... I would never ever print the map or rehost it anywhere. You've put a lot of work into this, thats gotta be respected.TRANCE wrote:I have the full JPEG of the entire map, btw.
What's the point in having it though.
No professional printer can print it for you as you're not the owner nor have permission plus the colours are wrong for paper print and the map is not even finished yet. The JPEG will not work on phones as you can't zoom in far enough. No other web site is allowed to host part or all of the map either in JPEG or Flash form without permission, so what's the point?
Ultimately, its your map so you can decide how its presented, or not. Being a webdesigner too, I know how doing an 'official' JPG version for download on your site could create other issues, like making more work anytime you update the map.
Anyway... its not really worth debating, because most people with computer skills could work out how to extract a JPG version if they really want it. All you can do is hope that those users have some respect for your work, and won't upload it on other forums saying 'check out this cool map I found'.
I post a lot of photography online. Theres no way to stop people copying the photos (apart from putting huge watermarks on them), so I just accept the risk and get over it. If a few idiots copy my photos and use them on a Chinese website to sell cheap electronics, well yeah, thats frustrating. But the only alternative is that I stop posting photos online. Most of them would probably rot away on a hard drive forever, never to be seen by anyone. But at least nobody copied them
I guess my point is, don't be TOO protective of your work (I'm not accusing you of being too protective, its just food for thought!)
You're quite right, sorry about that.mobstar wrote:link for map don`t work,404 error.
I replaced my old small map with the new big map as the small one I made was a bit naff and the new big map has taken it's place, due to tons of other web sites that link to the old URL below.

It' still far from finished and I'm working on it all over time and adding all sorts of other different categories as I go with extra info, etc. Web design like this using Macromedia Flash takes a huge amount of time and patience, so bare with me. (the link to the new design is also in my sig below)
