As someone who is married to a Dutch girl who's family was persecuted by the Germans during WW2 for having 'Jewish connections' I fully support this idea. There is NO PLACE in this day and age for anti-semitic behavior, I hope this policy is adopted and a few of these anti-semitic bastards are put away for a long time. (maybe in the same conditions that existed in in places like Dachau and Bergan-Belsen!)

Peace,
Old School.

If the police adopted this policy and done something arguably as stupid as the Rabbi did, sooner or later you'll have a dead policeman on yer hands. While this may prove that the point about religious harrassment, it wont be a victory for common sense that's for sure. The issue needs to be tackled, yeah, but I don't think this idea is the way to do it. If the Police in Belfast would've went up the Shankill road wearing tricolours and posing as decoy catholics they'd have got a bit more than dirty looks and insults to worry about. Going up the Falls in police uniform is enough to get ya killed, let alone wearing an Ulster flag. Jewish people are not the only ones suffering speech hate crime, does that mean we get an undercover team going for each minority group.......Can't wait to see the decoy queens?.

Exactly DC. Jewish people are not the only ones suffering from this type of abuse - what about all the other minorities that get shit from bigots? And bigots don't have to be Moroccan... the whole thing seems like a very strange idea to me. And I AM Jewish. I get the feeling that this is less about protecting Jews and more about curbing the Moroccans - which is no bad thing in some cases, but still.

I constantly get crap from Muslim men in Amsterdam simply due to the fact that I am a non-Muslim woman, walking by myself, in Amsterdam, therefore I must by a hooker (and I know for a FACT that I am not alone in this, as many of my friends complain about the same thing and there was even an article about it in The New Yorker a few months ago).

But I don't feel the need for 'undercover women', (fucking lol) nor do I think that all muslim men are like that. Just a few assholes, as with any group of people. This problem goes a LOT deeper than a few random hate crimes. By targeting Moroccan neighbourhoods in this scheme, I don't see how they could do this without calling it entrapment.

I'm finding it increasingly ironic that more and more people are voting for bigots like Geert Wilders, yet seize the opportunity to call Muslims bigots at every turn. The situation is getting scarier every year, for people on all sides of the argument.

Not sure if I would qualify the following as being a devils advocate or having a pragmatic approach to solving this problem. Smoking a gram now...

An increase in reported cases of rape in the warehouse district of the city has prompted authorities to increase patrols and deploy undercover female police officers (decoys) in the effort to stop the violence and apprehend those responsible.

In the above scenario, does one find fault with their tactics? What about the scenario below?

Change the location from a warehouse district to a minority housing area. If the authorities increase patrols and use decoys, they are accused of profiling, harassment, racism, and bigotry. If they do nothing, they are accused of profiling, racism and bigotry. Hey, at least the harassment would stop. ''

Fucked if you do, fucked if you don't.

Old School Smoker, I agree with your opinion, but as far as I am concerned, there never was and never will be a 'place' for this type of behavior towards anyone for any reason. FULL STOP

True that. Where issues of religion or race are involved, there will always be someone who isn't happy. :(

Yeah, but in yer first scenario the police are doing a sting operation in a neutral non residential area to catch somebody that's already committed a violent crime, aswell as increase patrols...effectively 2 actions. Not the same as targeting a non neutral community with a little bait to provoke a somewhat obvious reaction.

The article lacks a lot of useful details. To be honest if I was to walk through a predominantly muslim area I'd expect to get 'dirty looks', if I was dressed as a Rabbi I'd expect insults. The Nazi salute just demonstrates how stupid racists can be, as if Hitler was gonna let the muslims off the hook. For this reason I find the reference to ww2 as a bad way to obtain a sympathy vote. Whatever these guys are doin is wrong, but I'm guessing the situation in Israel in present times is what's fueling it more than anything else. Which is a whole different prickly conversation I wont be getting into. Surely if the idea had any merit, then so would the idea to use Salman Rushdie decoys instead..... that way they can get them all at once!?!. :?

Yep true, but it'll be generations before everybody finally manages to work that one out.

How many generations will it take for us to evolve into one skin color, one faith, and reproduce asexually? This is a stretch, but maybe then we will be able to prevent not only our own extinction, but Mother Earth's as well.
I just tied this in with DC's thread on the Zeitgeist/Addendum. Cross thread bump. '8)' or not.
