Question
Question
Hi there everybody.
Totally new to smoking weed so i wanted to ask you guys several questions concerning the coffeeshops. Kinda nervous on my first time.
1. Is the roach paper usually provided in the coffeeshop or u have to get/make ur own roach?
2. As far as i know rolling papers are always provided if im wrong please correct.
3. Any suggestions on a novice - friendly coffeeshop where they can give me advice on rolling a join since i'm not sure i can roll a good one on my first attempt?
Thank you for your timeand sorry if the questions are too "newbish".

Maybe in some shops they give you free papers but I always had to pay 1€ for a packet and I didnt like the almost transparent large papers that everyone else seems happy with---take a multipack of rizlas---i was given roach material in a couplke of coffeeshops np----coffeeshops I was in which I reckon would help you out with rolling was Basjoes and Rookies they had a nice friendly feel to them--the others I was in were efficiant but maybe less friendly---good luck and have a good time

yeah most of the coffeeshops provide rizla and roach but its worth getting a few packets of rizla before hand they sell em everywhere headshops will sell rolling mats pre rolled cones and plenty other contraptios if the dealers nice and helpful ask or just ask another fellow toker in the coffeeeshop ive done it a few times for people and i think most would try to help you out just let them have the first toke

\Go and buy a pack of large orange or green rizlas & a small pack of drum gold tobacco. Practice rolling large cigarettes 'til you got it. It's quite the knack. Expect to roll at least 10-20 before your result starts to resembles a spliff. When you've got it, try with blue or silver papers- these are the thin 'almost transparent' papers mentioned by bilbo and which most people prefer as you taste less paper
really, it's whatever you're used to.
It's a bit tricker when you've got crumbled weed in there with the baccy (it should be mostly weed), but this is a good start.

Hey chel007 don't be nervous! earlier advice great, practice does make perfect
You could also check out some 'how to roll a joint videos' on the net. I'm in work now so don't wish to attach links for obvious reasons
Otherwise usually plenty of helpful people in coffeeshops to ask for assistance, good luck!
vandaag is het begin van de rest van je leven
Its better to buy your papers etc from a headshop, they are very cheap. you're also gonna need a grinder, although some CS's do have grinders you can use.
Definitely check out some 'how to roll' videos on youtube.
If you're having trouble and want a shortcut, grab one of those rollmate type products. Its a cone cylinder that you wrap your paper around to get the right shape, then just tip the weed in the top. There is probably also videos of this on youtube etc.
Don't forget that coffeeshops also sell pre-rolled joints, but thats a last resort! The pre-rolled can be a bit stale. Its much better to choose your own buds and grind them fresh, and roll your own.

1. Do you mean carbs? If so, YES - provided in many, see recommendation belowchel007 wrote: 1. Is the roach paper usually provided in the coffeeshop or u have to get/make ur own roach?

2. Usually provided, see below
3. Abraxas II by the Singel. They provide carbs and papers, nice quiet location, decent cannabis (Try the John Sinclair), they have many varieties of pre rolled joints, and they have great bud-tenders, DAvid if you're lucky

I have often found the nice coffee shops do have free rizla and roach available on the counter, but buying your own is good for personal choice and convenience and I personally prefer rolling smaller smokes sometimes and so keep a pack of smalls too.
Definitely good advice to practice with whatever you have available, but as long as the sucker holds together I feel it is no shame to have a ragged bift.

Too right man, the mark up they make on drinks you should get a free rizla or two.
Defeating evil with a thing called love
Most good headshops sell them, I've seen them in aluminium or wood. Look for real headshops, as opposed to souvenir shops. If they are also selling orange sunglasses and cold Heineken from a fridge, as well as a ton of cheap plastic bongs, go somewhere elsechel007 wrote:Thanks for all the help.
I see bleak has mentioned the rollmate do all the headshops sell them or only some (please specify if so).
Cones?
some good tips in here, I'm also not so great a rolling-long time smoker but mostly form pipes/bongs so I never developed the knack for rolling.
While I could get the hang of a rollmate I figure my best bet is the pre-made empty cones...I assume those are only available at headshops and not at most c/s?

Re: Cones?
I'm the same way, been a bowler since I started smoking. I was going to recommend pre-made cones as well. I have only seen them available in a couple of shops although most of the head shops I've been to sell them.Lamont wrote:some good tips in here, I'm also not so great a rolling-long time smoker but mostly form pipes/bongs so I never developed the knack for rolling.

1. Is the roach paper usually provided in the coffeeshop or u have to get/make ur own roach?
- Roach paper? Do you mean filter tips? If so, read #2. If not, then what is roach paper?
2. As far as i know rolling papers are always provided if im wrong please correct.
- As stated already and from my experience, most shops have papers and filters which they provide for free. Just ask if not offered. Always a good idea to carry a pack just in case.
3. Any suggestions on a novice - friendly coffeeshop where they can give me advice on rolling a join since i'm not sure i can roll a good one on my first attempt?
- Don't know of any shop that wouldn't give some free advice, but if you are looking to be taught, might be a different story. Many suggestions have been given, from buying pre-rolled joints (least desirable IMO) to using a rolling machine, to pre-made cones (most desirable IMO).
Thank you for your time and sorry if the questions are too "newbish".
- You're welcome, and don't worry about the newby BS. We all started out as newbies, and it's nice to be able to pay forward and share what has been learned.
Lastly, be wary of the "kid in the candy store" phenomena. Too much of a good thing can lead one to experience what is warmly referred to as a "whitey". Trust me, you don't want to have a "whitey" in public, totally embarrassing. What is a "whitey" you ask? According to the Urban Dictionary, a "whitey" is an undesirable reaction to smoking cannabis common amongst lightweights and first-time tokers. Symptoms include dizzyness, clammy skin, nausea and vomiting. It gets its name from the paleness of the sufferer as the blood drains out the capillaries under the skin due to a decrease in blood pressure.
As stated, common amongst first-time smokers, although I think anyone can experience a whitey given the proper circumstances.
Have a great time in Amsterdam.
