Coffeeshops open past 1am?

Post by Matkcc »

Hello y'all,

I'll be passing through the great city on an overnight layover for my plane ride. Unfortunately, I won't be getting in to Amsterdam until about midnight. So I was wondering if any shops are open past one am (can't find one in the directory that lists hours past 1am). Of course I'll be coming back in the future, but I was hoping to check out the town while I have the "free" night in it. Any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Such a beast doesn't exist. I believe there is a local ordinance which prohibits coffeeshops from staying open past 1 a.m.

There ARE however, smoker-friendly bars that are open til 3 or later. The Bottle, on Oudebrugsteeg, is one. You may wish to revise yer approach to loading up beforehand before settling on a late night squat.

I mentioned the Bottle as an example. Wunder Bar, a personal fave, is open late on the weekends. I'm sure others can chime in with more recs.

The Bottle
Oudebrugsteeg 25 -III
1012 JN Amsterdam, Netherlands
020 7722797
Smoker friendly bar. Open late.
11:00 - 3:00 Su - Th; 11:00 - 4:00 Fr - Sa

Wunder Bar
Nieuwendijk 3

Hunter's Bar
Warmoesstraat somewhere in the Hunter's enclave

Barney's Uptown
Haarlemmerstraat 115

I confirm that there is a local ordinance for the opening hours of CS.
In amsterdam they must close at 1:00 a.m., only on friday and saturday the coffeeshops in the centrum open till 3:00 a.m.
This is a local ordinance so every city has different opening time: for example in Leiden they open after 4:00 p.m. , in Arnhem they close at midnight in the centrum and at 10:00p.m. outside, etc.
If you are at schiphol you can try to go to Haarlem where they have different time: the willie wortel near che station open in the morning I think at 6:00, the sandman open I think till 2:30-3:00 a.m. every night, there is also a take away shop that if I remember well open till 3:45 every night.

Hope this can help you.

.
I'm afraid this is incorrect, since the law came in where alcohol can no longer be sold in a coffeeshop all coffeeshops must close by 1am. Before this, coffeeshops that also sold beer could use there alcohol license to stay open until 3am.

Just curiously: What is everyone's opinion on the ban of alcohol in shops? How does it alter your experience? I'm not the type to drink and smoke at the same time (I prefer fruit and something sweet when I'm getting high :P) so it doesn't really affect me, but I am curious as to the affect to people who go often or actually live in Amsterdam and go to the coffeeshops often.

I can't mix bud with alcohol as it makes me blackout. The last time I tried it I blackout, fell back and hit my head on concret. I suffered concussion and ever since I have no sense of taste or smell. So it is a big no no for me.
Next trip 1st August 2015. 2 weeks camping/putting my feet up.

what it did was split groups with a few smokers and a few drinkers from just all hanging out together and doing their own thing. Its a shame realy.
