Dirty Uncle Ron wrote:From my conversations with budtenders and owners, most shops buy from a distributor (FYI - many shops share the same one), some buy from individual growers, and some grow their own. Ever notice how different shops sell the same gear at the same time? How about when a new strain hits the market - a number of shops will have it within days (if not hours) of each other. Coincidence - nah. I think (just an opinion) it more likely the shops who contract individual growers are more likely to sell misnamed gear.

FYI - White Widow sells between 7e - 9e. I'm not sure why so cheap, maybe because the market is always flooded with some strain of White. Basjoe's had a nice White a few weeks ago for 7e (I think), and they don't sell bad gear. My point is don't judge weed by price alone because if you did you would never leave Barney's. '' ''
hey Uncle Ron -
thanks for the great info. i suspected something like this would be going on in such a community of growers and distributers. not that im blaming anyone or pointing any fingers.
but i DO want to make educated purchases, and thus i want to know where to go for honest buds.
its not like the guy behind the counter will be 'lying' to me. im sure if i asked i would be told where it comes from, so long as im nice

i would never, ever judge weed by price alone - this is exactly what im trying to avoid - so tell me what do you mean by never leaving Barney's? what is it about their products that i dont know yet? :?:

Hey Lochem,
You touched the nerve center of the point, which is that with such a diverse community, sometimes it's hard to nail down those responsible for some of the BS that goes on, like ripping customers.

From my personal experiences and going by what most say, budtenders are an honest lot who want nothing more than to satisfy their customers, and make a living of course. 8) One of the first things we tell newbies is to talk with the budtenders when they have questions about the gear, etc... The bottom line, if the budtender doesn't know much (if anything) about the gear being sold, turn around and leave.

Good thing you don't judge weed by its price because you would most surely be disappointed. Sounds like you already know this, good. I, or anyone for that matter, could make an argument that in order to receive top quality gear one is going to pay top prices. There are plenty of shops that provide excellent gear at reasonable prices, but alas they too are starting to become an endangered species. :(

The dig on Barney's is due to the fact that they are a very expensive shop, probably the most expensive shop in Amsterdam. A bit of a stretch, but they just might be the most expensive shop in The Netherlands. Barney's does offer excellent gear most of the time, and at times a real dog or two. Their main problem is their prices, to wit all of their top-shelf gear starts at e12-13/gm with certain boutique strains reaching e17/gm. And White Widow for e10/gm, I don't think so, not when the average is somewhere closer to e8/gm. Last year I predicted that Barney's would be the first shop to charge e20/gm within 3 years. As I mentioned previously, they already have tested the waters with e17/gm gear, gear that on a good day I might pay e13/gm, which is still too high (no pun intended). Tourist prices - this is why I consider Barney's a tourist trap.

Uncle Ron, can you list a few of the shops where I'd get top gear but still for reasonable prices and feel comfortable with my purchase?
From what I've read thru the forum so far, I've collected a few spots on my map that I want to check out. They so far include :

Double Reggae
Rastababy
Grey Area
Speak Easy - i heard of good deals here
The Noon- same with this place
Bushdoctor- staying at the Nh Carlton which is right nearby

Don't go to Rastababy and Double Reggae, they sell some of the worst weed in Dam. Furthermore, Rastababy's bags are pre-weighed and they sell you 2,3g for 3g

interesting... thanks for the input. im into the jamaican/reggae vibe, plus when i visited jamaica i had the finest herb ever... potent, sweet, natural, and i liked it better than most chemically-engineered weed ive ever smoked.
do you still not recommend?

Yeah, being called "reggae" or "jamaica" something don't mean they sell roots strain, rastababy and double reggae have the same strain as the others shops (jack herrer, silver haze, ...) but the weed is always pretty crap
I nearly vomited because of a very crap tasting nothern lights at Double Reggae.

I heard that anyday has a really good Jamaican High Grade. Katsu has a top Jamaican too. I guess Basjoe's Jamaican is pretty good aswell.
If your into Thai, Hill Street Blues has a cheap thai (I remember 3,5g/10e, or 4e/g) who do the trick and is pretty good for the price
