October Solo trip

Post by weedhog »

Im from the U.S. and Well, been soaking up all the info here. After dreaming of going to Adam since the late 90's I am finally going to Amsterdam Oct 13-27th.
Im a little anxious as this will be both my first international trip and first solo trip and for 2 weeks!
Anyone got solo trip experiences to share to ease my worries.
Thanks

Solo trips are great. I am going to be there 21-26 Oct. It will be my third solo trip. I have a few friends that say they want to go, but they always back out.

Make sure your shoes are broken in. I had blisters on my blisters last trip. read the posts here and you will be fine.

The trip reports give great up to date info on everything

Very true about the shoes, but get a bike.
I can not express how much it improves your time in Amsterdam.
Not to mention how much energy and time you save.

Welcome to the forum.

You have been posted on the October Whos In Town page.

You can see who else may be in town during your stay.
Watch for Toke & Talks, I post them up to the last minute.
Or post one of your own. All I need is a date, time, and coffeeshop to post it.

By default I link your posting to your profile page here on ACD.

https://www.coffeeshopdirect.com/forum/profi ... le&u=48851

I can change it to a web link ( myspace, facebook, personal page )
or an email address if you want.

First timers get my S G Collins recommendation
I think a read of this will maximize your efficiency once you get there.

How not to get hit by a bike and other stuff they forgot to tell you about Amsterdam.

Most of my 30+ trips have been solo. Works real well for me.

You can practice shop on the Coffeeshop Menus page.

Enjoy

Mate, unless you have some seriously like-minded friends then going solo is the best way to go. You will see and do everything YOU want to do. There's enough reports and advise on here to help you plan what you want to get out of your trip both in and out of coffeeshops, plus if you plan which coffeeshops you want to visit it will allow you to see more of the city anyway. The only thing I will say is that if it's your first trip to Dam have a smoke and a walk round first in that order. If you don't get hit or close to get hit in the first day or so you will probably be safe renting a bike bit for goodness sake be careful. You will read about how dangerous the bikes are out there but until you experience it first hand you do not fully appreciate how hectic it is out there. Stoned tourists are prime targets for Dutch cyclists out there. They see it as sport I think.

LOL I quess I must be lucky. I have been to Amsterdam/Nederlands numerous times and have never been close to being hit by a bike. Guess over the years travelling solo I have gotten used to all the bikes, mopeds, cars and trams. But hey I'm sure you'll have a great time, There is so much to see and do and not just in Amsterdam. Maybe have a day trip to Haarlem, Utrecht, Alkmaar or Leiden. What ever you choose to do I'm sure you'll have a great trip as a solo traveller.
Next trip 1st August 2015. 2 weeks camping/putting my feet up.

lol, thanks for the reasuances. I know Ill have a blast and I will try to watch those bikes! Was thinking Id rent a bike or scooter for a few days also. Do you all know the requirements to rent the scooters? I have a US drivers liscense but not sure what the requirements are in A-dam.
Also cant wait to try the hash as the only time I have ever gotten it, it was some black hash and tasted kinda funny like there was motor oil in it or something..and it just made me really tired and would have to go to sleep soon after, for me it wasnt enjoyable at all.
