Don't really wanna carry my passport around with me. Do coffeeshops and bars accept foreign photo IDs?

Yes they do.
I live in Europe so never carry my passport around.
Take you ID that it.

Is it not law that all visitors have to have their passports on them at all times ?

I always have mine but i'm sure I saw someone using a UK driving licence as i.d. with no probs , have fun

I always have to use my passport because most shops don't believe that my Irish ID is real. On our first trip to Amsterdam my friend pulled out his as ID and we were almost laughed out of the place. The budtender genuinely wouldn't believe that it wasn't homemade until the other 3 of us all showed him that we had the same ones.
And don't get me started on Irish divers licenses... just a huge piece of laminated paper. Even a lot of pubs in Ireland won't accept it as ID, it's so easily faked. Whenever I give out about it, the more patriotic among my friends always come to the license's defence by saying "Hey! It DOES look official! It's laminated like!" Oh lordy...

As long as it looks like an official document it should be no problem at all. And yes it is true, you always have to carry an ID or something (passport,etc...).

Pretty sure a tourist is supposed to carry their passport in Holland, I never do but I do carry my drivers license.

i thought that if we was part of the EU there was nothing to say our UK provisional / full driving wasnt good enough, although they do say your meant to carry your passport, is rather stupid because if u lose that then your fucked!

i never carry my passport just the photo part of my drivers license,,,,,never been asked for id either

had the same thing happen to me with my us temp license. right before i left on my trip i had to renew my id/license. so they gave me an unlaminated paper temnp. it didn't look legit even though the back had a bunch of washington state mumbo jumbo/fine print and such on the back.

Not sure if i have missed something but i have only ever been asked for ID once and that was in Amnesia. I think more likely as there was a group of us. Is this just for the younguns as i am, unfortunately well over 30?

All dutch citizens have to carry an ID from 14 years on. I ve been asked several time to show my ID.

I am 23 years old, but my boyish charm makes people ask me for ID all the time. Would a Norwegian credit card with name, birthday and picture (which works as personal identification in Norway) be all right? Or do I have to bring my passport? If so, would a b/w copy of given passport be sufficient?

Its not worth to carry your passport around.
Take you drivers license or personal identification but you could give it a try with your credit card (with picture,name and birthdate).
